  1. The VC treatment of DS titles is pretty surprised for me. The new titles on the Wii U have blown me way with their polish and overall value. I expect better.
  2. I had 10 dollars credit and my son loves Mario 64 so I picked that up. It looks quite crisp on my 48" TV in the living room. I also love Mario 64 but the second vote pushed me over.
  3. I bet upgrading the kernel is really painful.
  4. There are loads of kiosks for these things. If you play it and can't see it it's not there.
  5. So we found that it's nice to toss on a kid's show and play something sometimes. Other than that's it's for me being ultra lazy and just flipping from a game to live TV.
  6. I had more or less classified them all as first party driven shovelware, to be honest. My wife likes them so I figured eh, I don't get to control all the gaming. I'm pretty sure the board game amiibo mode doesn't cluster you, I only played it once before my post. Since then we played the Bowser mode. I definitely don't consider it any sort of timeless classic but I'm really enjoying the heck out of it, myself. I get why others wouldn't care for it, though.
  7. So I haven't played a Mario Party since 2 or 3, but I gotta say, as much as I hated motion controls they are a thousand times better than the old 'rotate the stick as fast as possible' that used to dominate. Actually really enjoying this iteration. The Wii U continues to have my favorite iterations of so many of Nintendo's franchises. The board game Amiibo mode I find especially enjoyable.
  8. To a lot of gamers in like 3-4 years a regular game focused system will be a brand new concept. That's probably not what they mean, though... I think it's likely that this has more to do with their whole 'unified experience' thing they keep toting. Or the life improvement things they seem to have a lasting love affair with. I find that conversation to be confusing since they already seem to have the infrastructure for it all but have thus far failed to actually commit to it.
  9. Luckily I just didn't notice the HDMI in at first or I'd have surely made the same error. I didn't realize it did the pass-thru thing at first. It's actually a pretty handy feature.
  10. I'm about to grab a NUC for this purpose. My franken PC MAME machine is functional but I'm tired of the fan noise and stuff. I think I want a bit more connectivity than the sticks offer, personally. But it's probably pretty sweet overall.
  11. Honestly the first time I saw the sun rise in Everquest. It was amazing to me that as a Human race character I was actually limited in play by the day / night transition so I sat by the guards and chatted with players all 'game night' and then we got to the killin'. Probably not what you are looking for but it really sticks out.
  12. I remember being in high school and finding out that the PSX was considered retro by the younger kids. I go with NES and back because I was spawned in the 80s. I don't have fond memories of anything earlier because I wasn't alive.
  13. This happened to my cousin. He pre-ordered Warcraft III when it was initially supposed to launch. He then graduated, moved from home, joined the US Air Force and did all the other stuff in life before it actually came out. When he did buy it at launch I remembered his pre-order and asked him how that went. He had complete forgotten.
  14. I picked up the Xbox One and I had previously just been all about moving my gaming PC to my TV for steambox and skipping the PS4/Xbone but the experience just wasn't great. I still prefer my Wii U with my wife most days but I'm happy with my purchase. Getting used to the sign-ins and user tracking was odd. I think if I did it again I'd just get the Kinect Bundle. I ended up using the TV pass-thru a lot and I sort of regret not getting that part. On the PS4 v Xbone department: I really dislike the centered sticks. Always have. I really like the Xbox controller designs (other than regular freakin' batteries!!!!)
  15. I get a kick out of this console gen. The Wii U is by far in third but I own like 12 retail games that I love. I own 1 retail xbox one game. The rest were from games with gold and i picked up EA access for a few months because I enjoy playing NFS and BF4 sometimes. I really like the titles I've downloaded it but my Wii U is still far and away a more fun machine for me and I've spent way more on it. I like to see news that they are still doing their thing. Not that I had much doubt.
  16. Raiden - Arcade / MAME Beetle Adventure Racing - N64 Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 - PS2
  17. SNES: So many of the games worth owning. I recently disconnected the A/V from my switch because my emulation collection is just so much more complete and my saves are there. With these games released so often I can't justify the cost just to have the cart. =/
  18. The original Xbox. I used to play it at a friends house when we were doing long kernel compiles and it was neat but it never enters into my mind otherwise.
  19. So the latest patch did speed up matchmaking for me. Reset my savestate, though... Sigh.
  20. I only found the material through your links and I enjoyed it.
  21. Wario Land is really the only one I remember playing. Loved it.
  22. Excite Bike for Nintendo is probably my favorite to pick up and play.
