Ok, I got bored today and thought I'd see what I could find in a couple minutes of playing around.
If you change the 4 bytes of $88 to $EA at $F48B (DEY to NOP) and the $C8's starting at $F496 to $EA as well (INY to NOP), that seems to prevent the players from moving up and down. (at least in the 30 seconds of oh-so-rigorous testing that I did). The attached file has the modification.
Although whenever I make ANY edits to the rom (even changing what appears to be blank space in it), something gets goofed up, and the numbers at the top get cut off. Not sure why. Oh well, not sure I'm going to take the time to figure out why.
Edit: I suspect it has something to do with Stella no longer knowing what game it is. Fiddling with the TV settings in the game properties menu of Stella let me tweak it to fix it, but maybe I'm missing something important.
Thanks very much for looking into it! Maybe one day i'll try myself with the numbers however i wouldn't really know what i'm doing

Edit: Having just tested the ROM, I appear not to have any movement whatsoever. Not sure what's wrong.

I was thinking about 1v1 fighting games on the VCS and how I'd love to see one. The closest that you can get is Karate and we all know that it pretty much sucks. I was wondering if he game could by modified via ROM hacking to lock the movement horizontally so that hitting the opponent is easier. Also the points system could be changed so that instead of trying to get the most points, each character has a set amount of points to begin with and each attack takes a certain amount of points away from the opponent depending on which attack was used. This would give a game reminiscent of classic 2d fighting games such as Street Fighter although without special moves etc. These seem like feasible changes to make however my knowledge is not near enough to do so, could anybody do this and would anyone be willing to?
Thanks,
~Pixel.

In the future probably yes, but not at first. The way that AtariAge handles releases is that they issue the game in physical cart form with manual (and sometimes with box like this release will have) for a set period of time. Then later they release the ROM for emulators. I don't remember how long that gap is.
Ah ok thank you, and I really love the work you've done with this
when it releases, where can I get a copy? -
Hey, I'm new here but saw the forum a while back when this game caught my eye. I have played the demo (4 stage one) and loved it. I was wondering if there was any chance of me getting a rom for this so I can play it on my emulator since my Atari 2600 no longer functions.
Thanks
