  1. Thanks for the clarification, that's great!
  2. I've opened up my 1040 STE to see if there's a good or bad DMA chip. Inside I saw the attached. The numbers on the chip don't seem to match those of a good or bad chip. Does anyone know what these chips are and if it's a good DMA chip? Perhaps someone has already replaced the chip?
  3. Would love to get hold of this if you manage to find another host!
  4. I've picked up this external disc drive. It didn't come with a power supply. Can anyone identify the make and advise on the voltage and polarity I'd need for my power supply? I don't want to damage it. It doesn't have any writing on it. Also, is the switch an on/off?
  5. I had this problem. I was using a ST to Philips CM8833 SCART cable which is different wiring to an ST to RGB SCART one. So using one of the latter (available online for about £10 in the UK) is also worth a try. It works for me on the three LCD TVs I've tried it on.
  6. It could well be your disks. Where were they stored? Try moving the metal guard on a few of them to see if there is any damage or mould on the actual disk surface.
  7. Thanks, that is all really helpful. Is there any software test I can do on the disk drive before I consider replacing it? I'm going to run a RAM test that I've also found to see if it identifies any memory problems.
  8. I recently got my hands on a 1MB STE and also dug out an old 0.5MB STFM along with a load of game disks. I've been testing the games on both systems and have found a major variation in what works and what doesn't. I've summarised this so far in the following Google Doc: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NGp57HcvzT7tBwx4OsNxoiUiNiSb15phQ-x-tVLEVfQ/edit?usp=sharing What you'll see is that some games work on one system but not the other. Back in the day 100% of the games worked on my (now defunct) 1MB STFM. Many of the games are on menus from the likes of Pompey Pirates, Medway Boys etc. Some of them are original copies of games though, and you'll see that I have problems with some of these when I would expect them to work. It is possible that the disks have become corrupt (been in a basement for years) - but then most do work on one machine. How bad was STE compatibility for game menu disks? Or is it possible that the memory in my STE is somehow corrupt? I don't understand why some originals like Batman the Movie or NZ Story wouldn't work on a 1MB STE. If anyone has any suggestions I'd be really grateful.
  9. Hi, an update on this. I tried another scart cable and it worked! So ignore my past comment saying that LG monitor doesn't work with an ST. Thanks for your help folks.
  10. Yeah, I think you might be right. I can't afford the cost in time and money of buying and selling LCD TV/monitors on eBay until I find one that works. To help identify the RBG SCART ones, I had the following idea: - if the monitor has 3x component in sockets then this indicates that the SCART could well be composite - if the monitor has 1x video in socket then this may indicate the SCART is RGB What do you think, do you reckon this theory might be true? I've attached a diagram using examples I found to illustrate.
  11. Thanks for posting this. Should the resistors be 1W or 2W, or doesn't it matter? Thanks.
  12. Just to add to the list, I bought an LG M228WD LCT TV/monitor and all I could by connecting an STFM and STE from monitor out to the TV's SCART socket was a black screen with faint ghost-like image. Annoying, as it looks like someone else in this thread had success with an LG M227WD. I was hoping the LG M228WD would work, but it doesn't seem to...unless anyone has got any suggestions?
  13. Anyone know anything about what else you can use the BAT sound cartridge for? It says in this eBay listing you can use it for other software: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321488401642 I read that Music Master may be one such bit of software - anyone know anything about Music Master? I don't remember it!
  14. I've been searching for information on the MV-16 sound cartridge that came with the BAT game. It provided a superior soundtrack and was also used as some sort of copy protection. It seems that this cartridge was also compatible with other software - possibly something called Music Master. Does anyone know anything about Music Master? Or any other MV-16 compatible software for that matter?
  15. Hi, another Lynx screen issue thread I'm afraid. Short lines of white pixels have appeared around the edge of my Lynx II screen. Here is a screenshot at darkest brightness: The opacity of the white lines doesn't change as you adjust the brightness. So at middle brightness, you can seen them overlaying the game you are playing, and if you turn the brightness right up you almost can't see them as the whole screen is pretty-much white. Games are playable but I'm interested to know if this is repairable (perhaps a loose or faulty ribbon cable?) or is a sign that the LCD is on the way out. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks for your help.

    Lynx to VGA

I've been lurking on here but following this thread with interest. I'm not that technical but am definitely interested in one of these if the final product is easy to install and comes in at under $100.
