Yes, you have to get a PEB for a SID Master card. But note that the SID Master card is not a MIDI card. It is a card to host the SID 6581 or SID 8580 music synthesizer chips which were originally in Commodore computers like the C64. I made a SID Master card a while back. The hardest part about it was finding a SID chip that worked. I suggest you read this before embarking on a effort to find a working SID chip. I ended up ordering one from some folks in Germany that were selling "NOS" 6581 chips. It works great. I strongly suggest getting the 6581 chip rather than the 8580 chip as most SID encoded music was programmed for the particular sounds that the 6581 chip produced.

Thanks, I did enjoy the article. I bought it through the iOS app, would like to get a paper copy at some point.

So I was in London last week and picked up the currently on sale Retro Gamer magazine. While the magazine was pretty cool and certainly well worth a few quid, there was nothing about the TI 99/4a in it. When is that issue supposed to come out?
-
I just found the easter egg in the cartridge ... cute ("Hey Bert...").
-
I just noticed something with Sabre Wulf ... is it using the SID MASTER 99 card if it is installed for music playback? That opening music sounds too good be the TMS9919,

Are there plans to sell a pre-made cartridge as with your prior games? While I can burn the PROM myself, I wouldn't mind buying a remade one if only to throw some money your way.

Here is a fantastic opportunity to get a "R5" rare cartridge for the suggested price of just $500! Princess and Frog on eBay Note that it is untested, but the seller generously offers that he will test the cartridge for a nominal fee. Good luck!

It would seem that the codehackcreate.com site is down again (at least for me).

I had a similar problem. For me, the problem was some of the pins connecting the A/V out DIN-5 to the circuit board had worked themselves loose after years of plugging and pulling the video connector. This was fixed by re-soldering the pins to the circuit board.

Thanks! When this document says "Of no use in TI PEB", what does that mean? I am trying to reconcile that against the claim at the top of the document that ll drives listed are PEB compatible.

Saw this, thought I'd share: http://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=a2SnYa2aJNo Note the use of the TE II cartridge.

Trolling / Reading / I've now got my idea!
coolio replied to unhuman's topic in TI-99/4A Development
The game Henhouse is essentially Joust reskinned. It might be difficult to make a pixel perfect copy, but the game mechanics aren't hard. -
Ah, didn't see the surface mounts. I am not set up for that. I will happily pay for labor in addition to parts.
-
I would be interested in one, and be happy to pay for labor too - or happy to get a kit and build myself.
-
Oh man, missed it. Would the PCB (design or printded) and EPROM images be available to make this at home? Or can you estimate when you'll make the next run?
-
Thanks! Forgive my noob-ness here ... I see that some Atari titles has two .bin files. For example, Ms. Pacman has MSPACC.BIN and MSPACD.BIN files, both 8K. How would I burn these? Would I concatenate the files and burn to a 16K EPROM? Or do these need a board other than the 64k Jon Guidry cart?
-
So I have built myself a 64k Jon Guidry cart (well, three), I have 27c512 EPROMs and an EPROM burner, I've downloaded all of the TI 99/4a software tittles from the Internet Archive ( located here ), and now I have realized I am missing one critical piece of information: what to do next. How do I build the data file that get's burned into the cart's EPROM? Sorry if this is already recorded somewhere, my searching could not find it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have the Q*Bert manual. When I get a chance, I will scan it and post it here.

Are we TI'er's living our second childhood?
coolio replied to Omega-TI's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
Not only our second childhood, but I found the TI is a great computer for my young kids. They learn about computers, the 7 year old even dabbles with BASIC. I don't have to worry about "parental controls" and "in app purchases". -
Again, a standard Mac (USB, ethernet, etc). I guess my question really is should I get a serial device server and connect the TI to my home ethernet network? Should I get a serial-to-USB connector and use that path? How about these CF card disk emulators? It would seem the HDX cards only have accompanying PC software, is there a Mac port (or at least a comm protocol specification that would allow one to be made)? What mac-side software should be used with any solution? Basically, what are my options?
-
Sorry .. I have a PEB with the standard RS232/32K/Floppy compliment.
-
What would be my best strategy for connecting my TI to my Mac for purposes of file transfers (both directions)?
-
Thanks!

I just got ahold of a working Mini Memory, but I do not have the cassette tape with the line-by-line assembler. Does any body know where I could get a WAV file or something containing the line-by-line assembler? Thanks!
