Pardon me for being such a newb, but could you please tell me which eeproms I need to order as well? My immediate need will be for the 512k supercart. I want to make my own eeprom for a super game cart. My questions are listed below. 1. Which eeprom will I need to get for carts? - As I am learning more about the 512K cart, it appears to be able to take smaller capacity EEPROMS (64K) up to 512K and above (1024K?) if I solder in a resister. Correct? It appears the chip part numbers are printed on the 512K cart board. 2. Can these eeprom burners also read an eeprom and store the data in a file on the PC? - I believe the answer to this is YES... at least if the Youtube video I just watched is any indicator. 3. How do you erase the EEPROM (or can you)? - I think they can be erased in the 'burner', correct? It's the EPROMS (single E) that use UV light to erase them. Am I right? 4. How many times can they be erased and rewritten? Darryl

I want to get into burning my own eeproms (for the TI carts). Can some of you experts out there recommend a good (and cheap) burner for me? I’ve been surprised by my early Ebay results, but I fear the cheap price tag and small size is misleading. While cheap small devices do what I want to do? Darryl

I am in the process of modding my TI case for a VGA connector. I want this thing to be easy to take apart with the hack/mod in place. One thing that would make it easier is if I just went without the top shield over the motherboard. I realize the original shield was partially used for heatsink purposes. Since this TI now has an F18A installed, the heat dissipation is no longer needed. What other purpose was the shield for? Was it shielding EMI? Something else? It will be a pain to cut the shield for the ribbon cable and VGA connector, but I will do it if I have to. But if I don’t have to, then I will be happy. Opinions? Darryl

I just bought one to use my non-F18A console with my flat LCD display. I have another similar converter in use in another room. I use it to put video to a flat LCD monitor so I can view my DVD player/recorder without having to turn on the projector every time. It works perfectly and I love it. The expectation is it will work the same with a TI computer. However, my non-F18A console is showing black/white video. I understand it has been modified slightly, so before I investigate further, I’d like to know if anybody else is having issues with one of these converters. After doing some Google searching, I discovered this page which seems to describe exactly what I am facing http://www.pagetable.com/. Apparently, it has nothing to do with the video converter. It’s probably just pickier about the video signal than the TI color monitor was. So I have ordered replacement crystals. I’ll update this thread after I fix this. Has anybody else done the repair? My amplifier arrived Saturday. I heard the sounds of rattling loose parts in the package. When I opened it up I discovered it’s a kit! Lol I swear I saw nothing indicating it was a build-it-yourself kit in the ad. Looks like I will get some good practice soldering. I’m actually looking forward to it. Anyone have a good source for a cheap speaker? I would imagine 2” round is about right. I saw one somewhere that was rectangular and maybe even smaller. And how should I attach it inside? I am not fond of gluing things inside the case. I’d prefer to screw it down. Darryl

OK, I have some homework to do. I'll check the powersupply lines. The drives are spinning weakly, with not enough oomph to spin a disk. Darryl

They are known working drives installed in a PEB. I used them myself for many years. So I know they are good. The motor spins weakly when you put a disk in, but stops when you latch it. Darryl

I might have spoken too soon. I am not finding Alpiner on disk yet (other than my GK rip). I am still certain I have it though. I have a whole mess of floppies I cannot read at the moment. In the mean time, I will try my hand at ripping the cart the way we used to. The switch in the Speech Synth was the key. I remember it now. We'd load MEAT, hit the switch, swap in the game cart, un-pause it by hitting the switch again, game cart would be written to 32K high mem. Then hit the switch again, swap in EA and load MEOW which would write 32k high mem to disk. Cart ripped. All I have to do is find the two programs. In the mean time, I found two other programs that similar to MEAT and MEOW. Isn't there a way to convert the GK rips to EA5 games? It's the same data, isn't it? Darryl

What happens when I connect the VGA output (640x480, right?) from an F18A to a widescreen monitor? I would expect it to NOT be stretched, thus preserving the aspect ratio. Perhaps this is a DIP switch setting? Darryl

Yes. Before this test, I was assuming I'd need an amplifier. But clearly, I don't. I will try one more test with a small speaker (and no amp) to see if it's loud enough for an internal speaker. Oh, and you will probably be interested to know that the "processing sounds" were in the audio... which is just as I remember it when I was younger. But I thought you'd like to know in case you might be thinking it was coming in through the amplifier circuit. Darryl

OK, I just alligator clipped a set of earbugs to the mobo and it was loud as hell. In my opinion, it does NOT need an amplifier. It was easily as loud as any PC audio jack with the volume all the way up. I think I am going to put a volume wheel on it and wire it straight to an audio jack. Darryl

I am testing out my PE box and I wanted to load some floppies and stuff. I put in DM2 and inserted a disk. I got I/O error. I pulled the drives (still connected though) and I see the motor spinning when I put in a disk, but as soon as I close the latch, it stops. And when I get a catalog from the disk, it never spins. Are these drives dead, or do they just need some lube or something? Darryl
