Yes, I noticed that too. I'd do the same sort of thing with a battery powered Arduino in a box, driving a LED and about 20 lines of code.
But that's how I would do it. I'm sure Atari has millions of dollars of development behind that particular power-cord-free unit. Not an Arduino and a LED. No, sir-eeeeee.

Electronics isn't my thing, but that seems complicated for a battery-operated light bulb and switch.  They've had working Fuji lights for over a year when they were trying to fool TheReg (and others) the first time.

I asked that of Kieren on Twitter and yup:

  4. New update with prototype!

Spoilers:  They don't say it but you're not getting your Ataribox in December, IGG backers.  Spring is still on-target (they say).

There’s still much to do before the team feels it can change the Indiegogo status from “Prototype” to “Production,” but we get closer each day.

I recommend checking out the blog for more details, AVCS pics and factory pictures, but I'll leave you with teasers--

Look at that sexy power-on action, haters:

Mr. Werner is, in my opinion, a paranoid, little troll.  Especially when he thinks he has the authority to post sarcastic responses himself.

In other news, UberStrategist absolutely sucks at messaging.  The onus isn't on anyone to hunt down a single post or two to find out if the VCS still includes games.

  6. Yo, Atari, I'mma make it easy for you:  Linux-ready 3.5-inch SBC can load Ryzen Embedded V1000 or R1000

I believe it checks off all the necessary boxes; namely the R1606G/R1505G CPU options, low temperatures, and small formfactor (147 x 102mm/5.8" x 4").  While the price is not disclosed, it seems to be a thing that actually exists now.  Request a quote here:  https://www.ibase.com.tw/english/ProductDetail/EmbeddedComputing/IB918

But it's also a reminder that--if made--the Atari VCS will have the same computing power as your fast food restaurant's ordering kiosk:

    Quote

Applications are said to include panel PC, kiosk, POS, medical display and industrial scenarios.

    ibase_ib918_detail2.jpg

It needs RAM, a M.2 WiFi, and storage.  I don't know if it has eMMC storage, so you may need to populate that second M.2 slot.

The question wasn't aimed at me, but I'll give my opinion where it wasn't asked for.

They're supporting it because they've already spent so much time, money, and emotional energy to walk away.   Also, I suspect, to admit they were wrong would be to admit we were right, and some of those guys really hate tacos.

I think irrational, blind fanboyism is involved also.

Yes, all that. Also tribalism, an us versus them mindset that is immune to facts, evidence, and reason.

They also take both facts and attacks toward Atari or Ataribox personally.

Same type of thing goes on over in the Intellivision thread and those fans don't even have any money involved.

  8. The Atari OS is, indeed, supposed to be Linux.  But Sandbox Mode is supposed to be whatever OS you can install.

I guess they could do a retro-futuristic redesign of an Atari computer and put AtariVCS board inside.  Maybe update the design so it's more of a detachable keyboard than in the case.  Add a hard drive for an actual O/S and programs.   I think they'd rather just sell you the console and let you add peripherals.   But the same questions arise as the AVCS, as Flojomo asked above.

And here we're speculating about another Atari product when their first one may not even be out of the prototype stage.

  9. CBs were the Internet forums of the day with anonymous handles, inside codes, and both useful and idle chatter.  I remember my handle from back then, even though I was probably eight or ten years old.

So I'm wondering what the next news will be?  One about delaying shipment?

Does Goochman even still visit this thread? I sometimes think, man, could you have possibly thought this thread would evolve into

the 850+ pages of Taco Goodness? When will it end? HOW will it end? 😛

He created one of the greatest threads ever and left us.

So this is what it feels like to have Superman abandon your planet.

🎵Oh, @Goochman where are you now? When every thing's gone taco somehow?🎵

That is why I haven't been following this thread on a regular basis.  This isn't much of value to be learned in this thread and listening to people trolling and pissing & moaning is not a productive use of my time.

Funny, because you came into this to try to troll us and are literally "pissing & moaning" about this thread.

I do find it interesting that even supporters such as yourself don't find Atari's updates exciting enough to put over in the FAQ thread.

the board looks good.  does it work is the question?  (I don't know if they showed it running yet) I also don't know if it will fit in their original plastic box.  There's no way they will reach consumers by the end of the year if it is not in production right this second.  What's another 6-12 month delay at this point? haha.   There's no cooliing solution shown either, but there are mounting holes for it.

Appreciate the response.  Here's some details @aramis.  If correct, it's going to be a very long year for Ataribox supporters:

That PCB barcode only contains this string: 440377100008MPA1938A0100009

    Nothing too exciting. :)

It may be interesting that it appears that the bare fab was made in week 35 (August 26-September 1) of 2019.

It was populated sometime after that.

Also, that UL file E239218 (shown in the board's silkscreen) is "owned" by Aoshikang Precision Circuit Co Ltd (AskPCB), who can do quick-turn prototype assembly too.

In other words, several signs point to this likely being a quick-turn prototype / low-volume board shown in the picture, made very recently.

  13. Backers rejoice!  The long silence is over.  There's a new update on Indiegogo!

Oh, it's just what we've been talking about.  Antstream.  Bah.

But wait, there's also a Medium blog post!

Bahhhh, more of the same.  Although, they mention the special Atari VCS version of Antstream will have exclusive Atari games!!!111one!1!

    Oh, and there's this:

It's clear to me that this is just another manufactured effort to say..."look over there" while their house is on fire.

I forgot my greater point, but hey, look, a bunny:
