If you continue to do interviews like this, I hope you take the previous commenter's advice and get transcription software. Then you can just (hopefully?) listen again and verify or edit as needed. Well, if the software works as promised, that is.

New video, not seen yet:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfZwNCLC0tU
EDIT: It's pretty good, he speaks calmly and concisely and covers most things really well. His steps to recovery is nicely pitched, too.
Good video, indeed. His #2 step is interesting, and I think not mentioned enough.

One other interesting thing about that Game On Expo video (which happened Aug 28th or 29th, I believe) is that somewhere in the 20-25 minute mark they expressly say this will not play old cartridges and it's not an emulation machine. Carlsen even mentions he's against emulation because old systems are so readily available. Back somewhere around Sept. 1st or 2nd I misremembered an old Mike Kennedy post as implying there would be cartridge adapters. This generated some interest from members here. Then suddenly on a Sept. 2nd post here Kennedy announces: Hey, we're keeping FPGA because we'll have cartridge adapters!
Could be coincidental, but is it any wonder that people think there's something fishy going on?

First off, Kevin has an incredible amount of prior art at this point, given the demonstrable work he's done specifically with his FPGA boards and cores. Second, can you imagine the backlash if someone did attempt to strangle his development due to a patent (or patents?) I for one would not support any individual or company who used patents in this manner in our hobby. I have no idea what specifically the Retro VGS team is actually trying to patent, if anything at all. I can't imagine there's enough money in this to either try to stifle competition making a similar console (and one that actually somehow infringes on whatever patents they may ultimately receive, again, if any), or to even try and get patents in the first place (which is a very time consuming and expensive process). Not something I would worry about at this time.
..Al
There may be more patents, but AFAIK the only time they actually mentioned them was at Game On Expo in late August. Carlsen talks about the proprietary cartridge interface and at a bit after 0:25:10 says, "I'm actually hoping we'll pursue a little bit of patent protection on this. I'm already listing out a number of claims for our patent attorney."
Agreed...this is not a critique of the guy editing the podcast, but the interview is going towards irrelevance. Actually, I am not sure if I am going to listen to it now - it's old news. This thread and Youtube videos moves way faster. When your troops have deciphered the codes, the war is already over.

I'll still watch, but I hope triverse doesn't take too much longer to get the video out.
That it's apparently almost ninety minutes long is disheartening. I just hope it isn't sixty minutes of hearing Kennedy speak and twenty minutes or so of everyone else.

I am at the 50 minute mark, or so, and the word file shows 8,600+ words. I still have about half an hour left to copy over.
!!!!!
Is there a Cliff Notes version?

OMG, it's a REVOLUTION.
2 massive console+gamers backers in last 20 minutes - over $1200!

similar,
I think my interest in RVGS was more nostalgia-fueled than concern over the handful of favorite games I've lost to Windows or Xbox changes over the years. In fact, I also can't even remember what happened to my NES games that I loved playing way-back-when. So maybe I can call that "even". I've lost PC games and cartridge ones.
A console like RVGS should take into account modern-day needs, like DLC and bug fixes. I'm glad that lately Kennedy has been at least admitting that bugs get through and not just declaring that cartridges were/are bug-free. It's almost like the "misinformed" and "haters" actually knew something!
Now, after I misread a Kennedy (username Parrothead, here) quote, thinking he was implying converter cartridges -- and then he announced they were keeping FPGA for the specific reason of converter cartridges -- well, I actually was kind of excited. I was tempted to go through lists of old games and see if I liked any enough on various systems to buy them. But, that temptation left me once the actual IndieGoGo came out. No specifics, no money for them. And besides, I really want a snowblower for just a little bit more.

-
Triverse, I'd be tempted to release at least the audio (video?) just because the fire is hot. Hopefully anyone who prefers the transcription can understand.
I'm surprised that revelation isn't getting more traction in this thread. I used to be a fairly regular listener of RGR, and that post explains the weirdness of the podcast over the last year (when Mike basically disappeared from it). The post seems to back up the suspicion of many that profit is the most important outcome of this venture, and it comes from someone who was part of it on Day One.
See below for what probably happened when he disappeared from the podcast. Short answer, as I understand it: Kennedy apparently skipped doing many podcasts, and the last straw was when he went to something called "Surf Dogs" instead:
Well, I have decided to jump in feet first and develop my first game for this platform:
California Games:Surf Dogs?!
For those who don't know the inspiration for this, go to the show notes page for RGR #79 and jump to 3:40:25 in the podcast mp3 for the ten minutes of flaming spiral glory.

At this point, and "schadenfreuder" or ill will they recieve is justly deserved as it is clear to me now they are incompetent.
It's kind of sad that it's come to this perception because they may well be very competent in their fields. Maybe hire an(other?) expert?

I thought I'd check out the stats and responses to that gamester81 infomercial.
Over 6000 views, currently 111 more dislikes than likes and gamester81 is in full defense mode; even going as far as pointing to the 55:00 mark where he says he's not doing the video to sell machines.
One of the commenters had an astute response to gamester's saying it's not a commercial: nfomercials often use the "interview" trope. "Doctor, tell us more about this amazing weight loss product. "
But, I think we all know that already.

The FB post from John is interesting and if he's telling the truth -- and I have no reason to believe he's not -- then it just shows how messed up this project is. He actually sounds afraid of Mike and doesn't want to show him everything he's working on! A company can not be successful if the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.
I think it's a good bit of candor from Carlsen. I've worked with a CEO/sales guy who had no filter. He'd take it as fact and swing into hype mode. It wasn't that he was lying; it's just that he'd latch onto more buzzwords or ideas. The project manager was very cautious about telling him what ideas we were trying in order to improve our product. So, I think it's a plausible excuse.
There's a whole lot of stuff that needs to happen between Carlsen saying, "And I think we even could have cartridge adapters" and Kennedy saying, "We will have cartridge adapters". Kind of like a lot of stuff needs to happen between PikoInteractive saying, "sure, we'd be on your system" and it actually becoming true (silly details like contracts or how they would be ported).

I could be mistaken on this, but I'll throw it out into the aether anyway:
I think when Kennedy talks about prototypes, he's referring to boards that fit inside the Jag shell and resemble the final product.
"A very stripped-down version of our Retro VGS prototype" might be Carlsen speaking in layman's terms; as he apparently taught some classes. His "speak to me in Captain Dummy talk" helped me understand at least what was connected to what.
Before IGG happened, we asked to see even the evaluation boards. Maybe that's what we're getting, even if it's a day late and dollar short?

English is not my primary language, so I hope someone can enlighten me:
Now that following the Retro VGS-subejct has become my main hobby, I have come upon many occasions where 'Jaguar' is pronounced, well, strange. There's the standard 'Jaguar' but then there is the odd 'jag-wire'. I hear this a lot from different people, including Mike Kennedy.
Where does 'jag-wire' come from? Is it as correct of a pronounciation as 'jaguar'?

It's not my IP, but I'm just not sure patenting is worth the risk of the project never coming to fruition.
They are asking people to fund their business start-up with all the risk and the only reward being a fairly pricey product -- maybe.
I do feel empathy for Carlsen if he indeed drained his savings, though. I just hope it didn't mostly go to lawyers.

So many of these problems could've been averted if someone would've told Mike to run a bug-free campaign.
Just sayin'.

For anyone curious, a guy who says he ran RetroVGSClub posted over at neogaf: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=179974526&postcount=500
He uses an interesting combination of curse words that I'm not sure I'm allowed to copy over here.

Gamester complained of getting dislikes on his video before twenty minutes. It was clear within less than that it was going to be a softball interview. While I only scrubbed through most, Gamester finally mentions in passing that he's "involved" with Tiny Knight.
They don't realize this kind of behavior feeds into the whole "smoke and mirrors" idea. They keep doing things that make them look shifty, when they really just need to be straightforward.

Same here. Gamester has a vested interest in the VGS, so how do you expect that interview to go?
Well, I do realize that integrity is a bit much to ask at this point.

Stay classy, Mike -- replying to a suggestion for people to watch the two-part #CUPodcast/Pat the NES Punk video (emphasis, mine):
RETRO VGS Nathan, their drunken commentary was filled with disinformation beginning with our shipping costs and going on from there. Very little of what they discussed had anything to back it up and they did little to no research. And their opinion there is no market for cartridge gaming and that games these days can't be made without bugs is their opinion nothing objective. Cartridge gaming thrived and we all loved it for nearly 20 years. It can happen again. We feel there is a need for this product and a market for this even though it will cost gamers a bit more to actually "own" the games they love to play. They could have easily invited me on like Gamester81's upcoming video and we could have had equal ground. But they didn't afford us this benefit even when Pat has my email address and could have asked me.-

Not sure if this has already been posted ...

It took me less than five minutes to realize I can't listen to Kennedy say anything at all any more. Skipped to 50 minutes and at about 52:40 they both were in agreement how awesome everything is and some people just want the campaign to fail, or something.
@ ~51 minutes Kennedy says that they could have twenty games but "6-8 games is probably about right" for 5-7000 console users. Don't want to spread too thin so everyone can make money (paraphrasing, but that's essentially it).
@ ~52:20 "John's company, Collectorvision's got probably seven or eight games we want to bring on".
Err... what?
If there was a disclaimer from this "neutral" party, I missed it.
I just can't do it. I look forward to hearing Triverse's interview, which I suspect will have more meat.

I don't understand the comments about having developers working on games. First, they don't even have final hardware or a development kit. How is anything getting developed? Second, all the developers I've reached out to (except CollectorVision) have told me that they will only develop for the console if the campaign is successful. They're not developing anything yet.
AFAIK even Steve Woita isn't developing a game for the RVGS, and we've been hearing for months from Mike how badly Woita wants to make a game for the system.
-
They did say he'd be putting out a video shortly. He's not impartial though, as he works with CollectorVision who is planning to release a game on the platform.
That would be the Retro VGS pack-in, The Adventures of the Tiny Knight.

Seems like they may have gotten rid of the comments section on the left-hand side of the Facebook page.
I'm surprised it lasted even this long. Lots of less-than-favorable posts.

You know your on a site where its majority old men right?
We prefer the term "Experienced" or being called OG's (Original Gamers)
I don't have my glasses on. Did you write, "Old Gangers"?

He says, "Don't give out details on the system until you are firmly committed to them."
Just about the only things to not change on this system are the Jaguar shapes and the modified WI-U controller. They really should have nailed down specs before talking about them; it just causes confusion and makes RVGS team sound squirrely and possibly dishonest.
