It's top ten material, but competition is fierce. Knight Rider, discussion of dick, Janet Maddox Goree, BackIn89, PacFan97, Chicago Basement, Retro/Chameleon, and that prototype guy asking for bedroom pics all come to mind.

Could this thread be nominated as Atari Age's greatest thread of all time?

5.25 inch floppies was starting to be phased out in the 80s with the Amiga, Atari ST and other 16 bit computers. USB came out in 1996... thats a 20 year difference. By that time, there was little to no demand for 5.25 floppies.

Arcade version of 1942. What the living f*#k is that police whistle noise? I was playing it in MAME and I thought the emulation was broken/glitchy so I stopped. Then I played it on a real cabinet and realized the horrifying noises were in fact not emulation glitches but actual game sounds.

Oh wow, after 2 years, it seems the question still lingers

The one thing that seems to slip through the cracks a bit, probably because there aren't as many people interested, are big box pc games. The one local bi-weekly indoor yardsale I occasionally go to will see many going straight to the corner where the video games are kept but big box pc stuff doesn't seem to garner any interest from the collectors and resellers. Granted they don't have the same dollar value as a Mario Kart 64 or some Zelda game but some older pc games are quite sought after and valuable and over the last couple of years I've picked up some great titles for less than a dollar each.
This is one of the reasons I still visit thrift stores. PC games are still plentiful and I still see many of them go for nothing. Although, I don't see big box stuff go for sale that often but I always usually see a good PC game or 2 in its jewel case every time I go.

Well, I'd like to target value village specifically for their price gouging and "cuz its old its rare" crap.
Honestly, Value Villages merchandise is considerably higher than other thrift store and all retro stuff gets shoved behind the counter. Like seriously, they're getting this stuff for free, untested, and they have no knowledge on this stuff and they have they still price these things for ebay prices.
Anyways, all the goodwills closed down in my area (All of the Toronto area), and there prices were much lower than value villages, but when it came to video games, they did the same crap as value village. These places need to understand that they don't specialize in selling these items so they shouldn't be pricing so high.

Is anyone noticing that thrift stores are drying up of retro gaming stuff? I've been noticing less and less stuff at thrift stores every time I go. I haven't found any retro gaming stuff in literally months now... I go every week and it's normally a disappointment factory. When there is some good stuff, it's normally behind the counter and sold for above eBay prices normally, which is quite sad.

Wow, such an amazing find! I think this is the first proto of Pepsi invaders we know about so far!

If someone doesn't buy this thing, I might actually gut it and replace the innards with a raspberry pi and a color LCD stylus touch screen.
Why would you want to? The Atari portfolio is already awesome!

Looking for the common Atari games. Combat, missile command, Berzerk etc.

There is a store in my area that is a disappointment factory.
They have no prices on any of the games. You want to know a price? Bring it up to the counter. The dude looks it up on Amazon/Ebay right in front of you and gives you a price...and then for the next item and then for the next item. That's if you're lucky. If its anything remotely obscure, he has to call up the owner and ask him.
It's god awful.
I had the same experience at a flea market. This guy had a huge selection of games and nothing was priced. You have to go and ask. Guy looks at eBay prices instantly and doesn't look at condition or weather or not it's sealed.
Guy wanted 100 dollars for a copy of raiden 3 for the ps2 (which is like a 5 dollar game mind you)

shopping for retro games in a store is basically a joke where I live. All the prices are 2-3 times more than eBay and really do push the whole "if it's old, it's rare" crap.

How long has this movie been in production for? Must have been quite awhile since they have footage of Jack Tramiel.

I see this all the time. A lot of documentaries on computers focus mainly on IBM, Apple and Microsoft alone. It's really sad, cuz companies like Commodore and Sinclair get no mention in these documentaries and shows.
