  1. The video signal on my 130XE is apparently degrading. There is a distinct horizontal "bar," which takes up about a third of the screen vertically, that scrolls slowly up the screen distorting both the image and the color. I get the same problem with using a cartridge, booting to Basic, or loading from my floppy drive. I've switched the original composite cable with an S-video cable...same problem. It's not the monitor because my TI 99/4a looks just fine on it. I suspect that either the chroma or luma components are degrading, but I don't know for sure. Anyone got any troubleshooting tips or, better yet, solutions? I fear that I will end up trying to find a reasonably priced 130XE on eBay to replace it, but that's not my first choice. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

  2. Bought TI 99/4A in 1983 when they were basically $50 after rebate. Gave it away about 15 years later, along with the carts. Have since replaced it a few years back with one in good condition I found on eBay, along with three of my favorite carts CIB (Parsec, Blasto and MunchMan).

In late 1980s bought an Atari 800XL used from my friend. Gave it away ten years or so later. Replaced it about 10 years ago with an Atari 130XE (plus 1050 drive) bought cheap at a church yard sale, along with 6 carts, including my favorite, Qix. Amazingly, though, I still have scores of program floppies from when I owned the 800XL, most of them still working.

Finally, I still have my 4-switch Atari 2600 given to me by my friend about 20 years ago, along with over 40 carts, most of them still working. Play with it pretty often. Can you guess what my favorite 2600 game is?

  3. As I remember it, I bought this cart (in a box of about 10 cartridges) for about $5 at a flea market just north of Atlanta about 15 years ago. Although I played it once after buying it, I never thought about it again until this past week when I decided to pull out my collection of 2600 games (about 40 or so) and play with them. Needless to say I was floored to see how rare the cart is. Thanks to this wonderful website and some videos on YouTube, I was able to confirm that what I have is an original cartridge and not a later repro. Amazing, huh?
