  1. Looks very fine indeed! Did anyone try to play this gem on a Milan or Hades?
  2. The DSP is used by FalcAMP for decoding mp3 files, used by several graphics programs and CAB for fast jpeg decoding, used by Cubase Audio Falcon 16 to on-the-fly decode the existing compressed audio tracks while new ones are recorded using the 68030 CPU (btw.: we talk of unaccelerated Falcons here and up to 16 tracks altogether), and as you've already seen to let bulk Falcons do amazing stuff if programmed by proper demo sceners. I can imagine that it is also used for decoding mpeg videos in Aniplayer and similar programs, but I'm not certain about that. *edit* There are several pieces of hardware that plug into the Falcons' DSP port, such as nice audio interfaces like the Cubase audio clock, the Falcon Digital Interface or the Falcon8 of which I own the first two devices. I also have a Heatseeker, which is attached to the DSP to connect an Atari Laser printer which without it can't be used on the Falcon.
  3. Well, I do telnet to your Mega ST, but not too often... I remember the files section wouldn't work for me (don't remember with which client), I usually play games rather at home than online, and for the time being I'm just too lazy to write messages there.
  4. Congrats to Dark Willow, and many thanks you for throwing out prizes, DarkLord. Hrm, I should visit Darkforce on a more regualar base.
  5. Well, do we have to search for VME ports on plain Mega ST's as well?
  6. The probably fastest RAM disk is the Luftschloß featured in 'Scheibenkleister'. I also tried another one which felt about as fast, but I don't know how to find it anymore. Flexdisk might be a solution as well, but I don't know where to find it. Luftschloß wouldn't work on my Falcon when I last tried it. Don't know about STe although I think I tried it effortlessly on my Mega/STe.
  7. I'd recommend to use a plain ST and maybe add extras for more powerful systems. The vast majority of existing systems are ST's.
  8. With GhostLink or ParCP you can just transfer files from ST to PC. If you want to access the net you'll need STinG with Slip, and e.g. a Linux box that can forward you to the internet. The way to is captured here. Else an Ethernec will be fine to have 'real' LAN access.
  9. DarkLord would you please send me that zip file to my e-mail address? Someone searched that some weeks ago, and maybe he still needs it. Apart from that I'm always lucky if I can backup such things on my hard disk.
  10. I see I'll have to dig out my DDD desktop from the cellar. As it has a typical ST size I might just set it up unter my Falcon. Just'll have to think of a place for the hard disk.
  11. You can also search for a TOS 2.06 upgrade (maybe even with IDE controller). With a switch it is possible to use TOS 1.00 and 2.06 alternately depending on your needs. But if you just need a machine on which you change the ID of the UltraSatan, you might disconnect your Mega/STe's drive, connect the UltraSatan, and proceed with the ID. Or try to install CrippleMiNT to a floppy which you boot on the STfm. Depending on your hard disk driver you might even change the ID of your Mega/STe's drive and exchange the boot order to still have it as drive C:\ .
  12. Well, one needs some special capabilities to get the job done. Due to his special abilities Beetle is also known as Mr. Superglue. Did you happen to see pictures of his Atari 8 Bit notebook? Click here.
  13. I'll try CrippleMiNT on a 1040 STf with four megs of RAM and TOS 1.00/ 2.06 switch. Can't say when I'll give it a go though.
  14. Heya. I don't believe TOS 1.04 to be more reliable than TOS 1.02, but the disk I/O is faster. From TOS 1.00 to 1.02, and finally to 1.04/ 1.06 TOS has greatly improved regarding disk access. TOS 1.04 is about as fast accessing a floppy as TOS 1.00 is accessing a megafile. I'd be curious to see if MiNT cures this or not, as it sits atop TOS, either replacing or adding routines and features.
  15. The disk drive is a DD one, which should be fine for reading pc formatted DD floppies, although in your case it seems to just use single sided disks. If you are right and one head is not working no one can really say which side the drive uses. Else you just have a single sided floppy drive which can't use the other side. You can try any DD or HD floppy drive for a replacement. Be aware that it will be used as a DD drive and possibly show up as drive D:\ if jumpered to ID1.
  16. Darklord put his Falcon into a pitch black Wizztronic Desktop case. Up to now it did not find out of it and thus works in Darkness. It's also possible to throw the power supply out of the original casing to use an adapter which lets the CT60 be placed in the left back corner. CTPCI and Radeon graphics can be fitted in the original case as well, but this scenario is not for Falcon boards with claustrophobia! A move into a tower case is likely as well, but the coolest replacement casing for a Falcon I've seen so far is Beetles' adaption of a TT case.
  17. FalcAmp, and absolutely no mono! As far as I'm concerned FalcAmp just plays joint-stereo as mono, but I have to admit that my system is sped up by my FX-card.
  18. My Falcon plays 256+ KBps mp3 files while letting me chat and FTP. With Videl Inside setting the video to 640x400 in 16 colours it's still feels quite comfortable, but 640x480 or 768x576 in 256 colours is ok as well.
  19. I took a 120 gb Toshiba drive which needs MiNT or MagiC, plus HdDriver for full use. It's quite fast, and has been absolutely reliable up to now, so I can really recommend it, even if you just want to use the first few gigs. Else CF cards seem fine for many Falcon users, so you'll have enough options.
  20. Well, just read the dope sheet which says, Connect does work without the keyfile. So I fear it's due to your setup it wouldn't work. It also crashed on MiNT on my Falcon, although I remember using it with MagiC or TOS years ago.
  21. You might be right there, Christos. The hard drive or its cable might be broken. Me, too, had issues with that before.
  22. DarkLord, nice to see you up and running again. I'm not too keen on playing with your BBS in my OS X Terminal, so I just aborted it. Else would've written there.
  23. No internal hard drive? That's quite unusual. I know Falcons with one meg of RAM and no hard drive existed, but I thought the average Falcon user by now upgraded those.
