  1. anzac, you seem to be a wise person. *g*
  2. You can use any PC floppy drive to replace the Falcon one. If that doesn't work, try another floppy drive cable instead. Else try to find someone with a Falcon in your area to setup the hard drive including CD-Rom drivers and maybe GhostLink or ConNect95 to exchange files with a serial nullmodem cable. If a CD-Rom isn't installed via extra software you won't be able to use it.
  3. On the original Falcon disks you should find a program with which you can manipulate the NVRAM settings. You might use Bootconf by Uwe Seimet instead. If the Falcon keeps the settings after a coldboot or a power off the previous owner had a reason to use English for the menus and the keyboard. If not, the NVRAM battery is dead, and you should consider a new one or use some tool to load other settings than the defaults. One of my Falcons has a dead NVRAM battery, and I restore sensible settings with an auto folder program. Time is set via the internet.
  4. There's a program called ConNect which you can get it there: ftp.cs.tu-berlin.de/pub/atari/Modem/conn95.lzh . The corresponding key can be found in the readme file, according to the uploaders' notice. Have fun.
  5. I really like the Mega/STe and TT housing, and I'm absolutely fond of beetle's Falcon in a modded TT case.
  6. Open up the case when it arrives to see what the switch is about.
  7. Hey, these are really nice works of yours, DarkLord!
  8. Oh my, if you want to play kindergarden, please do so in forum 7, or if you want a competition, please build it up in forum 33. Thanks a lot!
  9. It would work with MultiTOS, but keep in mind that it takes a fair amount of RAM for just running itself. Iirc I filled to the brim the RAM of a one meg ST with just hard disk driver, NVDI1, mouse accelerator, and MultiTOS: 'Yeah, MultiTOS is running, now let's do what? - Ah, nothing... Damned!'
  10. It has RAM issues with might be hunted down in the nearer future. I think the sockets got loose.
  11. You can use STing with Slip to connect to a Linux box which will route you into the net. Here is a guide on how to configure both machines.
  12. I used to have a win98se on my 400 mhz PowerMac 8600. Awfully slow... But that's off-topic. I need to get my Milan fixed, so it will be used more often again.
  13. Mathias, on a one ghz machine you'd also have the possibility to run Linux in a vm. I don't remember anymore if you said you do it or not.
  14. I think Mathias is using Classilla and just doesn't care for things at which he can't look with it.
  15. Afaik Highwire needs TOS 4.04, or MiNT, or Magic, and NVDI (3 or above), or SpeedoGDOS. I think with these specs we can talk about a four meg machine as minimum hardware. *edit* You might use Cab instead. *edit*
  16. I once saw a TT setup with four VME slots on the net. Don't remember where it was though.
  17. Hehe, I just wanted to dig out your posting about ST chipmusic on the 520 (or what it was) to tell you I really like your AY songs, and now you just post Atari 16/32 stuff. That's great! Thanks a lot.
  18. I think that in times in which floppies go crappy hard disks (which tend to go crappy as well at some point in time, but have great replacements just as the SatanDisk) are quite nice a thing. Many people have problems about exchanging data with their more modern machines, so it's nice to be able to store your files on your older machine and use MSA to shove files to a working floppy or directly play your games from a hard drive. I really second the fact that an STe is a nicer machine for running demoscene stuff which imo is absolutely worth looking at! Another point for an STe would be the advanced TOS. It has at least 1.06 (also called 1.6, not to be confused with 1.62), which has faster disk routines than anything before 1.04 (also called 1.4), the Rainbow TOS. An STf may have anything from 1.00 to 1.04, so chances are that one gets an original (1.00) or Blitter (1.02 / 1.2) TOS. I don't expect to find an original DiskTOS on any machine anymore, but who knows... I also like networked STs, and with a NIC (or nullmodem cable), STing, FTP-Serv and at least two floppies, or maybe that HxC floppy drive emulator, or ideally a hard drive you can shove loads of games onto your machine (two floppies are the worst of those possibilities, just to point that out). Ok, I have networked about everything which sits here, and I know many Atari enthusiasts that did likewise. ATM I'm downloading my personal mirror of the umich.edu archives, which contain quite a number of games and tons of other stuff. Also mirrored some famous ftp sites beforehand. Loads of fodder for our beloved STs. For the Atari ST newcomer these possibilities are nice to know and although I'd suggest to get an STe as well, due to its potential to produce a bigger cake, I see a point in getting a plain 1040 ST first to just taste that cake.
  19. With an UltraSatan existing I'd say go for a 1040, ideally STe. Great for playing lots of ST games. I have one STe with a 'bad' DMA chip here, but I had no issues with it when using the machine.
  20. If it's a DDD Desktop you should be able to use any PC keyboard with an old round DIN plug.
  21. There are some Diablo drivers which would drive the SLM printers without a dedicated GDOS, then I believe Speedo might work (just speculating), and NVDI will definately drive them. The SLM printers will work with any ST provided is has enough memory for the drivers and an application to throw something at the printer. Not related to the topic but worth being mentioned: I'd consider upgrading the TT's FastRAM.
  22. The ROM should be within the ROM. Apart from that you might get it to work with the original driverdisk which contains S3 graphics card driver, some auto-folder stuff and one or two accessories. Also there is the full package on an added cd-rom. I think there should have been a ROM disk as well. Would have to go through some my stuff to find that out though.
  23. Might be. That's not my topic either...
