Internal IDE HDD adaptors for Atari ST/STF/Mega?
jens replied to oky2000's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
There are TOS 2.06 upgrade boards which came with an IDE connector. Iirc there might be a ram upgrade on them as well, but I'm not too certain about them. I don't know into which STs they can be fit though. -
A .sit file is compressed in another way than .bin. You can try to put your .sit files into .bin-archives with StuffIt on your PC and then transfer them. Maybe this works.

I don't have any System 6 Macs setup at the time, so I can't just setup a Macintosh system the way you did it, else I'd just do it. I'd be ready to setup a fresh System 7 SheepMac and use the tools you have under that. I don't know if that would be of help, but I'd do it. Just would need a list of the tools you are using on your Spectre Macintosh. Do you expand the files by double-clicking or by drag'n'drop? (Not that I knew it makes a difference at all, but some files just won't get unpacked after a double-click.) DiskCopy is a utility to mount floppy, cd- or hard drive images. Comes with later versions of the Mac OS, but I don't believe it's with System 6.

Ok, tested with a terminal window under Mac OS X 10.4, and I also had to press [Enter] to get things going.
-
As for the .DSK images: They might be accessible via DiskCopy. .HQX is opened with StuffIt as most archives. Networking might be possible via serial line? Don't know about Spectre's possibilities.

Congrats. *edit* Looked at your ST/ TT/ Falcon page. One thing about the TT's hirez mode: It does not need a graphics card for this, it can do it out of the box - you just need the TTM, ProScreen, or maybe as well STM monitor. You can use those monitors with a Mega ST or Mega/STe using a special graphicscard though.
-
Read that as well yesterday evening. I should setup my GCR (for the first time) and try a preinstalled System 7.01 or 7.1. I think 7.5 has too big memory demands. I wonder if one could surf the net with a Spectre...

Added. I want a Vibravision for years but they don't seem to be easy to find. I once saw one on eBay Germany sold as black ST, but I had no money at that point in time. It went away for about a hundred Euros I think. If I'd been able to lend me the money I'd have tried to get it, exchanged the casing with the one from my Falcon and resold it as Falcon (which it is), and which would have given me my money completely back. There are no serial numbers in the list as no one thought about this when starting it. If people want to see serial numbers, just post them, and I'll add them. If people additionally want to post pictures of their described setups, ask Albert how many characters can be thrown at a posting, as it would be nice to link them in my initial posting, but that's loads of characters. Btw: At a1k.org they have a 'showroom' in which everyone may open threads to show their setups and discuss related things like upgrades, case-modings, technical problems etc.

You might try StuffIt 7 on your pc. See pm. Oh, and I just found StuffIt Lite version 3.something and StuffIt 4 for Mac. Second pm will follow.

About your floppy issues: You can use any PC floppy as a replacement if you also use a PC floppy cable which is crossed. -
Hehe. I recently setup a virtual Macintosh with SheepShaver, and when doing so I read that the latest StuffIt release for Windows is said to be a pain in the ass. You should try to find an older version there. Also I'd recommend a later version than ver 1 on the Mac side. I don't know which one is the latest verion to work with System 6, I can just tell I'm using version 5.5 with System 7.5. Are you able to verify your files on a real Macintosh setup? If not, feel free to mail some of your files in question, but not more than a meg, please, to peter dot andreas dot jens at gmx dot de, so I'll try them on my SheepMac.
-
Just tried the 'DOS-Box' on my Win2k Setup, which needs one [Enter] to see the 'Press Enter'-Message. Same on my emaculated SheepShaver 8600 Macintosh which uses Cyberdog for Telnet. I additionally d/l'ed BetterTelnet to verify this once again. In each case the 'ATA' is not shown before pressing [Enter], so I confirm this to be verified for pre OS X Macintoshes. A hint if you are interested in wading through sources: The BetterTelnet sourcecode is available on the net.
-
Got a Mac which is not setup atm, but I think I had to hit Enter using BetterTelnet on it as well. I can try that again when I have it up and running again. If you are 'very' nosey about that you may remind me of testing that in short intervals...

FPU and user added. Sorry for the delay - have been busy and must have overseen my notification mail.
-
Don't find an 'ignore', just a 'report'button. And /ignore does not work in here...
-
Just take it off and have a look around. And remember: DON'T PANIC.
-
Done. For your entry I first thought about black letters on a black background, but those of us who aren't that experienced in reading different shades of black might have had problems with that, so I withdrew...
-
Added as well.

Updated. About your chip E and memory test issue: I'd try to reseat the RAM chips or use another ram card (having a spare one). Else I'd think of a nvram problem as well.

Sorry for the delay. I think they still are selling MagiC.
-
MagiC version 6.2 is the latest and best version. Never had any issues with it, and it gives you those huge F32 partitions and long filenames if you use it combined with HdDriver. The same goes for MiNT, so if you make up a small MiNT distribution you can use those benefits as well. I really like CrippleMiNT/ Geneva/ Gemini as a relatively small system. I used Geneva/ Gemini on my four meg ST-Book, but it's broken and gone to someone who wants to fix it for several years now...
-
Dan is said to be thinking about using Geneva as an OS for smartphones and thus would not release it into the Public Domain. That's a pity really!

What do you use your TT030 for?
jens replied to AtariSociety's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
I've been using Highwire and Cab. You don't have JavaScript, so only the more basically designed pages work. I mostly read forums with my machines, but my Milan also opened heavily loaded pages on MySpace (tons of rubbish - mostly Flash stuff) without using embedded media. -
Can't get EtherNEC/Sting working on TT
jens replied to crash's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Ethernec on a TT is exactly the same as on a Falcon apart from the fact that the TT is faster (as in so many cases). If you really copied all files it should work. -
Done.
