One of the things that I always thought was so neat about the Game Boy Color is just how many 8-bit demakes of 32-bit home console games there are on the system. That's not something you see anymore, developers doing complete remakes of home console games for vastly less powerful handhelds.

Personally I'd guess that it's likely because video games are much more expensive to develop now, thanks to the cutting edge graphics and larger teams required to make them, so the companies making them only want to pay for the production cost of one version that can run on a variety of nearly identical hardware (PC, PS4, & Xbox One) and don't want to take on the expense of remaking their game for a less powerful handheld like the 3DS.
