Does anyone else still prefer it when portable devices use AA batteries rather than built in rechargeable battery packs? With AA batteries I can just pop in a fresh set of rechargeable AAs whenever the device runs dry, whereas with built in packs I have to plug it into the wall and wait an hour before I can use it again.

  Companies should take a page out of Ben Heckendorn's book and use consumer-replaceable batteries. Most of his portable builds use camera batteries (or used to). Rechargeable AND replaceable.
