  1. Today I learned that on a CRT TV that only does 480i and not 480p there is no discernable difference between composite and component video. Unfortunately I learned this after spending $30 on a set of official component cables for my Wii. =P

      ^ As an experiment earlier tonight I tried just that. Under the screen settings menu on the Wii you can choose whether the console outputs 480i or 480p to the TV. When I switched it over from 480i to 480p output on my 480i only WEGA Trinitron the entire screen turned into a mess of rolling diagonal black and white lines, so back to 480i mode it went.

      You can find curved-screen, non-HD, fullscreen sets with component input. They work perfectly with lightgun games, and everything before the 360 looks amazing on them. Keep an eye out for sets made in the 2000's, particularly Sharp branded.

      The only thing I can say is I usually notice such differences in letters and numbers, where you can see the sharpness in a score for instance and for color separation, but yeah probably depends on the TV.
