I wonder how long it takes for REM sleep disruption to stop after discontinuing the use of a serotonin uptake inhibitor. I'm going on 11 days now of not being able to stay asleep for more than an hour and a half at a time and it's getting tiresome.
Apparently the Zofran ended up blocking the REM sleep channels at the base of the brainstem, so now every time I fall asleep I'm kicked back awake after 90 minutes when REM sleep would normally start. The channels should unblock in time after stopping the medication, it's just taking a while.
Sorry... when I saw serotonin uptake inhibitor, I just assumed. Your drug acts on a specific receptor in the brain and competes with serotonin to bind to that receptor. Very different drugs. Sorry for the assumption.
No worries, I probably should have been more clear about it. I can't say I fully grasp the pharmacological mechanisms of it, but I do know that I'm darn tired of sleep deprivation lol
