After 29 years of playing games on Nintendo systems I just realized tonight, while looking down at my GameCube controller, why B always comes before A and Y always comes before X on Nintendo controllers and handhelds. It's because the Japanese read from right to left. *facepalms*

  If they read Roman characters backward, then wouldn't the English text in my Japanese Saturn games be in reverse?

  The B-A arrangment from the NES feels more natural to me than the Y-B used in SNES games.
