  1. Today I learned through experience that Castlevania III is the only game in the series where if you die during the final boss fight with Dracula instead of restarting outside his chamber you start halfway back across the level and have to traverse a gauntlet of cheap hits to get back to him, and using a continue takes you back to the beginning of the level. It's absolutely infuriating.

      Now that I think about it.. The real challenge came from having to slog through so much of the stage and then fight through three forms on a single lifebar. The fight itself isn't particularly challenging, it's just long and doesn't leave much room for mistakes - and you're probably going to mess up because you're getting impatient from how long and grindy the whole thing is.

      This only happens in the North American version. If you play the Famicom version, you restart at the bottom of the grand staircase like the other games. Also, check the Famicom version's music out!

      It also had a difficulty change. In the Famicom version, each enemy does a flat amount of damage. On the NES, all enemies do the same damage, and it's based on what level of the game you're on.
