  1. Today I learned through experience that Castlevania III is the only game in the series where if you die during the final boss fight with Dracula instead of restarting outside his chamber you start halfway back across the level and have to traverse a gauntlet of cheap hits to get back to him, and using a continue takes you back to the beginning of the level. It's absolutely infuriating.

^ Where do you find the cross in the last level? I've only found the axe (which is useful on the second form), holy water, stop watch, and knife. My second character is Sypha so I've been letting her take the knife powerup for her fireball attack, which deals with Dracula's first form in a couple seconds.

is the boomerang the same as the cross? there's one of those in 8-03.

There's a multiplier in the wall to the left of your beginning location. If you

want to use Trevor's boomerang for the boss battle, collect the boomerang on

the upper level first, then collect the multiplier.

I always found CVIII Dracula to be the easier final battle between III and I. You can handle his first form with just the whip easily enough if you're patient, and the Axe will handily dispatch forms 2 & 3.

Then again, maybe I'm misremembering how hard it was because I spent *so* many hours of my childhood playing that game over and over and over and over...
