  1. I'm at this weird crossroads going into 2020 where, after seeing how sharp and clean my old games could look on a modern HDTV via the SNES Mini, I'd really like to modernize my retro gaming setup with a Mega SG and Super NT with EverDrives for both (the upcoming Mega EverDrive Pro for it's Sega CD FPGA in the case of the Mega SG), a RAD2X cable and PSIO for my original PlayStation, and a composite mod and RetroTINK2X for the Atari 2600 then ditch my old CRT.

Modernizing is a very expensive proposition though so I'd have to sell most of my original hardware and my entire PS1 library to afford it, and letting go of the past is really difficult even when I know I'll like the future better. It's difficult enough to let go of that I wonder if I should just stick with my blurry CRT TV, aging original hardware that needs repairs now and again, and slowly decaying PS1 and Sega CD discs.

I love reading your Status Updates because they're like a bit of life philosophies and the occasional existential crisis as applied to video games...

That said,  I really like the Mega SG and Super NT + Everdrives...But I (personally) wouldn't sell a collection to do it...Maybe just save up and get them over time?

I really should post status messages more often, rather than just when I have some difficult to solve gaming problem on my mind. I think the thing that's really bothering me at the moment is that I've had a couple pretty valuable PlayStation and Sega CD games succumb to bit rot this past year, so when I look at my shelf with right around $950 worth of CD based games on it I feel rather uneasy. I know the clock is ticking and one day, whether it's 1 year or 20 years from now, bit rot will take them all. Flash based solutions like the PSIO and the upcoming Mega EverDrive Pro (or TerraOnion Mega SD if you're up for paying the high asking price) really are the future for retro gaming and preservation when it comes to CD based systems.

So... I could jump ship right now while all my CD games still work and the market is good for selling them, and put the money towards a future proofed setup with sharp clean visuals that I'll really enjoy having, or I could cling to my nostalgia for the physical discs and all the memories I have collecting and playing them until they all eventually rot away. Practicality and sentimentality are very much at odds in my head at the moment.

      Heavy stuff, I know lol
