  1. Posting way late this week, Monday was a crazy hectic day for me, but it looks like I made it in time to at least get my household's stats for the week added before the week's gaming times get tallied up. Great job on the mid-year too Carlsson! It was neat seeing so many games from my household make the Top 100 for the year thus far. 3. Four down, one to go! Fox n Forests was really rough on the wallet and is now the new most valuable video game I own, but I've been having a ton of fun playing it and I get why it costs an arm and a leg since it's a pretty darn good game and only 1,000 copies were produced worldwide.
  4. A little eclectic assortment of my pickups from the past couple weeks. I scored a really nice condition copy of Silpheed for the Sega CD, Sonic & Knuckles for the Sega Genesis, then a few games for the Nintendo Switch as well. First I picked up a digital copy of Darkwood then physical copies of Fox n Forests from Strictly Limited Games (which is now the new most valuable video game I own), Paw Patrol: On a Roll, and the special Outlast & Outlast II boxed set from Limited Run Games. Lastly, I finally bit the bullet and picked up a rare out of production Furbo Fox plush by Douglas for my modest stuffed animal collection, which I was pretty stoked about too.
  5. DOOM (2016) for sure. I've logged more time in that game alone than almost all my other modern games put together. Whenever I'm bored and don't know what to play I just pick up my Switch and do an Arcade Mode level in DOOM.

  8. I go for physical whenever possible, since I like knowing that I'll still be able to play my games if my system dies and need replacing at some point in the future after the download servers hosting the digital versions of games are gone. However, sometimes there are games I really want to play that don't have physical versions available; and in those cases I'm alright with buying a digital copy as long as it's $20 or less. So while I do prefer physical copies of games for preservation sake I still pick up a few games digitally here and there.
  9. Just felt like snapping a couple pictures of my two favorite systems, one old and one new! :)
  10. Go for it! You can also still get physical copies of it from Best Buy if you'd rather pick up a physical copy than a digital one.
  11. Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon is easily my favorite Castlevania game, and I've played almost all of them aside from the Lords of Shadow series. It really nails the classic NES aesthetic, has a great story and amazing soundtrack (the Stage 7 song "Defiler of Taboos" is my favorite), and the gameplay feels as tight and precise as can be with a perfect difficulty curve. It's a game that demands practice, memorization, and skill; but it also doesn't overly punish you for failure and there's an easy mode for less skilled players who aren't up to the challenge but still want to see how the story plays out. At this point I've played through Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon seven times between the 3DS release that I bought from the eShop when it first came out and the physical copy for the Switch that I recently got from Limited Run Games, and I've still only gotten 3 of the 6 possible endings to the game. There's a ton of replay value with all the different endings and new modes to unlock. All in all I feel like Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon is one of those ultra rare perfect 10/10 games for me, it just does everything right and there's not a single complaint I could make about it. This is classic Castlevania perfection.
  12. A good week for gaming this week, but man could I use a new Switch game or two. I've been replaying the same old ones for a while now! 16. I suppose it just comes down to whether or not you plan to ever resell them. If you can't see yourself ever parting with them then the amount of money the game is worth sealed versus opened and played doesn't really matter, because you won't be exchanging the game for money. Even if you do think you might resell them someday, sealed copies of Limited Run releases for the Switch only fetch $10 or $15 more than opened and played copies as far as I can tell from looking at eBay sold listings. At that point it just becomes a question of whether or not you think you'd get $10 or $15 worth of fun out of playing the games if you opened them and then decided to resell them later on; and devaluing your game by $10 or $15 would save you a lot more money in the long run than buying a duplicate copy to play if you ever decided to resell them.
  17. Now that E3 is over and we've gotten some more timeframe details for upcoming releases, my Nintendo Switch new game pickup schedule for 2019 has shaped up to look like: Raiden V: Director's Cut Limited Edition - July 25th New Super Lucky's Tale - 3rd Quarter The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening - Sept 20th Alien: Isolation - 4th Quarter Luigi's Mansion 3 - 4th Quarter Night in the Woods (Limited Run) - 4th Quarter Doom: Eternal - Nov 22nd My wallet is cringing and I don't think I'm going to have much (if anything) in the way of funds to devote to retro gaming for the rest of the year, especially considering that there's a few Limited Run Games and Strictly Limited Games titles that I missed at the time of their release and am trying to track down copies of for a reasonable price at the moment, but there's definitely a ton of Switch games coming down the pipeline that I'm looking forward to picking up and playing!
  18. I'd just like to take a moment to say that Silpheed on the Sega CD is refrickendiculously awesome. From the polygon graphics to the heart attack inducing music, wicked cutscenes, and the tough as nails gameplay; everything about this game really shows off what the Sega CD could do.

That game got flack at release for the graphics being mostly pretty background with the actual game layed on top. But I didn't care, I loved the game. However it's pretty difficult and I could never finish it tbh.

They did a great job blending actual polygon objects with pre-rendered backgrounds. The effect is very convincing on a lot of stages. The gameplay itself is pretty decent too. Not amazing, but it's fast and difficult. You have to be on-point with this game if you want to survive.

I'm totally with you there NE146, pre-rendered or not the first time I saw one of the giant spaceships in the background explode into hundreds of little fragmented polygons my jaw was on the floor. I haven't beaten it yet either, though I did make it to the final boss on Stage 12 once this afternoon so I think I can finish it with some practice. 😃

  19. It's been a while since I played any game for a high score, but I'm pretty happy with this one. Raiden Trad (Sega Genesis, Default Settings, One Credit Clear): 1,422,050
  20. Thank you for all the thoughtful replies everyone! It definitely makes sense that some Limited Run releases will go down in price and others will go up based on the popularity of the games in question, and unfortunately it seems everything I'm looking for is fairly popular. I think I'll make it my collecting goal for this summer to try and track down copies of the ones I want that I missed out on at the time of their release, capping what I'm willing to pay at 2X the original release price and seeing how it goes. On the upside of things, Best Buy got stock of Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon and my local stores do have it in stock for $30 (the same price as it was from LRG) so that seems like a good place to start my collecting efforts. I'll head out to Best Buy this weekend to pick up a copy. In the future I'm definitely going to be marking Limited Run releases for games I want on my calendar and making sure to set aside the money for them in advance, since it sure beats the heck out of paying double or triple to scalpers on eBay later down the line. You live, you learn.
  21. I've had my Nintendo Switch for 5 months now and I'm starting to feel like it may very well be my favorite console that I've ever owned, and I'd like to get physical copies of as many of the games that I really enjoy playing on it as I can. Of course some of those games were only released on a physical cartridge by Limited Run Games and Strictly Limited Games. From the Limited Run releases I'd like to pick up Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon, Dust: An Elysian Tail, Outlast: Bundle of Terror & Outlast II and from Strictly Limited the only one I'm looking for is Fox 'N Forests. In any case, every game I'd like to pick up from that little list was given a small print run and is no longer available from the manufacturer so eBay seems to be the only place to purchase them. With that in mind I've spent the last few days debating whether or not to pay the current going rate for these games on eBay (which tends to be between double and triple the original price from LRG/SRG) or wait and see if the aftermarket prices drop eventually, and I can't quite make up my mind. So, where so you think the aftermarket prices for Limited Run Games' releases are going to go in the future? Would I be best off waiting to see if eBay prices go down eventually or should I just suck it up and pay the exorbitant asking prices for these games on eBay right now in case they only get more ridiculous in the future? I'd be interested in hearing you guys and gals' thoughts on the matter.
