Hey there guys and gals,
I seem to be having some compatibility issues with a dozen or so Sega Master System games that won't load on my EverDrive GBA X5 (using SMSAdvance version 2.5) and I was just wondering if anyone else with an EverDrive GBA X5 could try out the games I'm having issues with to see if it's a universal problem or just something going goofy with my particular EverDrive. Whenever I try to load any of these games all I get is a black screen:
After Burner
Bank Panic (Europe)
Double Dragon
Fantasy Zone II
Ghouls 'N Ghosts
Golden Axe
Kenseiden
Lord of the Sword
OutRun
Rampage
Rocky
Shinobi
Thunder Blade
Time Soldiers
All of my other 200 or so Master System games load just fine, but all I get with the games listed above is a black screen and nothing else. At first I thought maybe I just had a few bad ROM files so I tried different versions of them from three different ROM sets, but no luck. Has anyone else had problems loading those particular Master System games, and if so is there anything in the settings that needs to be tweaked to get them to work?

A wild Lolwut has appeared! I don't think I'll be buying one, but I totally dig the bizarro concept.

A news article popped up in my feed a few minutes ago that I thought you guys and gals might find of interest: https://medium.com/@atarivcs/peripherals-update-designed-for-atari-vcs-in-partnership-with-powera-252685b0f2f1
It goes over how Atari is partnering with PowerA (who has been the company behind most of Nintendo's officially licensed carrying cases and third party controllers for the last decade and a half) to design and produce the VCS's controllers. I've got no expectations one way or the other on how the VCS system will turn out, but if PowerA is handling the controllers then it's pretty safe to say that at least the controllers will be quality products.

I posted this in the Classic Gaming Tracker thread in Classic Gaming General, but I felt like I should post it here as well to explain my absence from the finals:
For anyone who's curious about the thing that happened a few weeks back where my arms and legs all went numb for a couple days and I couldn't play games for a while, I thought I'd take a few minutes to fill you all in on what happened. Apparently I had serious bout of hypoglycemia (which I had no idea I even had before this) where my blood sugar was down in the 50's for a couple days and it caused some nerve damage in my hands and feet. The nerves should mostly recover with time and I can at least hold a controller and play games again now, but definitely not on any serious competitive level.
I spent a good bit of time this past week working on retraining my hands with some old favorites (Doom and Virtua Racing Deluxe on the 32X) and I'm noticing an improvement in my fine motor coordination already, and I'm also testing my blood sugar before and after every meal now to make sure it doesn't go out of whack again.
I was pretty bummed out that this all happened during the Atari 2600 HSC finals, so there was no way I could have competed for the Bronze medal title this season, but major congratulations to karokoenig on his win and hopefully by next season my hands will be in good shape to compete again!

Depending on how quickly my recovery goes I may try playing in the paper medal bracket, though I don't expect to score very well. Still, it's an opportunity to get my hands working again so I should give it a go even if I don't do all that well. My apologies to Vocelli for the lack of communication up to this point!

In regards to the original post, I did actually find a really well constructed and nicely shielded set of composite cables for the Genesis Model 2 / 32X: https://coolnovelties.co.uk/coolnovelties/sega-mega-drive-ii-genesis-ii/303-sega-mega-drive-2-genesis-2-av-video-rca-cable.html
I'm still going to pick up a set of HD Retrovision component cables, but if anyone does stumble on this thread at some point looking for better composite cables than what you'll find on Amazon with proper stereo sound then those are some darn good ones.

Sweet jeebus that is astounding! Between Mappy, Galaga 2600 and DK Arcade the Atari 2600 is really getting spoiled with amazing quality homebrew arcade ports this year!

- Shadow Squadron for Sega 32X (Cart only, Near Mint Label)
- Various Sega Genesis cartridges with near mint labels, ask for list.
- HD Retrovision Component Cables for Sega Genesis
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now that we've got the formalities out of the way, here's what I have for sale.
NES System w/ New 72-Pin Connector

Up for sale here is an original model Nintendo Entertainment System. It comes with a brand new 72-pin connector installed as well as a gray Zapper light gun, copy of Super Mario Bros. / Duck Hunt, official Nintendo power supply, and a set of composite video cables. Everything is in perfect working order with no problems of any kind and the system is in pretty fantastic condition with no yellowing, no chips, and no cracks in casing.
The only thing you'll need to get started playing NES games that isn't included in this bundle is a controller, which are widely available pretty much anywhere that sells retro games. The controller I was using with this system was a custom arcade stick upgraded with real arcade parts, which I decided to sell separately since it would have added another $60 to the price of this lot if I was to bundle it in.
Price: $65
NES Games

Hogan's Alley - $6

Mechanized Attack - $13

Operation Wolf - $4

Rad Racer - $5
Misc. NES Stuff

A set of brand new replacement conductive pads for a Nintendo NES controller. I bought these with the intention of refurbishing an NES controller but never got around to it, so the conductive pads are still brand new in package.
Price : $4
Thanks for taking the time to view my sales thread and just shoot me a PM if you're interested in buying or trading for anything!

Man, I would have totally been down for the Centipede one if they had made it Centipede & Millipede instead of Missile Command for the second game. The extra two buttons kinda turn the small control panel into a cluster-fluff of buttons. I just tried out the lastest revision of the full size Arcade 1UP Centipede cab at a local game store last weekend and the trackball was smooth as silk.

These days there are plenty of people making Atari 2600 joysticks with real arcade parts, so take your pick. My preference is a Sanwa JLF joystick with an octagon gate and a Seimitsu PS-14-KN button, though Happ buttons with soft touch microswitches are great too if you like the more American classic arcade feel.
In any case I don't think there's any topping real arcade parts for smoothness and precision, and while there's a ton of people building Atari 2600 joysticks with arcade parts these days I've had really good experiences with Edladdin so I'll toss his controllers my vote. You get top quality parts and a really sturdy well-made housing that's big enough to sit comfortably across your lap with his controllers.
For a more budget-conscious option I really like AtGames's Atari Flashback wired joysticks. All of them from the Flashback 4 onward are really well built (earlier revisions had overly long contact tabs inside that were prone to snapping off, but the later revisions are rock solid) and feel a lot like Best Electronics' upgraded CX-40s but with a slightly smoother joystick and a lot less actuation force required for the button. They're my favorite non-custom Atari joystick.

How's Mega Bomberman? I know it's good but what's like compared to the PC Engine/TG-16 and SNES/SFC versions?
I've only put a few hours into it and gotten through the first three worlds so far, but I really like it! The single player mode has got a lot of variety and the Louies are adorable as all get out. Unfortunately the only other Bomberman games I've ever played were the original on the NES and Bomberman 64, so I can't comment on how Mega Bomberman compares to the PC Engine and Super Famicom games, but I can tell you that it looks great and is a ton of fun to play!

we understand that here at our house. hope you get to feeling a little better.

Aww, thanks man! For some reason the doctors haven't figured out yet I developed some pretty severe peripheral neuropathy in both my hands, feet, arms, and legs Saturday morning and it hasn't gone away yet. Basically it feels like all my limbs are half asleep with that prickly pins and needles feeling all over 24/7, so for the time being my fine motor coordination is shot all to heck and just holding a controller is a challenge in itself at the moment.
Hopefully it clears up soon and the docs sort out the cause, but for the time being... well, I've had better days.
-
Let's get this started with Frogger Game A: 6,533. New personal best for me. Topped my old Highscore for Game A by 1.5k.
I concede Frogger, there's no way I could score even half that much.
For the other two games I'll need a couple days to see if I'm even going to be able to play at all. Basically it feels like all my limbs are half asleep with that prickly pins and needles feeling all over 24/7, so for the time being my fine motor coordination is shot all to heck and just holding a joystick is a challenge in itself. I've still got the better part of two weeks to compete, so I'm going to wait a bit and see if this clears up, but it is possible that I may have to concede entirely at some point if my condition doesn't improve.

I use the same cables from my 32x through my OSSC and my Genesis by far has the best overall picture through the OSSC via component than any of my other systems including those I have on RGB.
Very cool! I'm just planning on using them on a Sony WEGA Trinitron standard definition CRT so there won't be any upscaler needed, but in the off chance I decided to plug my Genesis into my modern 1080p HDTV at some point how's the picture from the HD Retrovision component cables without the OSSC? Is the 240p signal fairly comparable to 480i on a CRT or do you really need to run it through a OSSC or Framemeister or to get a good picture on an HDTV with the Retrovision component cables?
-
Well, I just discovered the existence of the HD Retrovision component cables for the Genesis Model 2 / 32X and since they do output 480i on CRT TVs and the price for them isn't outlandish I think it's "question answered" at this point. Feel free to chime in with other suggestions if you have any you'd like to share, but it seems like the HD Retrovision component cable is probably my best bet for getting my Genesis/32X looking pretty on a CRT without breaking the bank.

-
So I've got 32X once again and my life is filled with the joy of 32-bit power and Virtua things, but I can't help but wonder if I could get a slightly better picture out of my 32X with a nice thickly shielded composite cable instead of the el-cheapo generic Genesis Model 2 composite cable I have been using.
I definitely don't want to drop a ton of money on a SCART cable and RGB converter box, I'm perfectly happy with using composite on my 480i CRT TV (though my TV does have component inputs too so that would be an option if there was an affordable component cable out there that does 480i), I was just wondering if anyone knows of a good Genesis 2 / 32X composite cable that's a bit more heavy duty and more nicely shielded than the generic ones you find on eBay? I had looked at Retro-Bit's Genesis 2 / 32X composite cable on Amazon but a couple reviewers mentioned that it doesn't actually output proper stereo sound, so I thought I'd ask around here for other recommendations.
Any advice would be be appreciated.

I had an R-Zone as a kid and always liked the Panzer Dragoon game on it. No idea if it still holds up today, but as a kid I thought it was actually pretty fun.

EverDrive GBA - Sega Master System Emulation Compatibility Issues
in Classic Console Discussion
Posted
Problem solved! I had tried ROMs for each of the non-working games from two different reputable sites and they still didn't work, so I assumed it was a problem with the emulator or EverDrive itself, but this morning I tried using ROMs from the No-Intro SMS set instead and every game works beautifully now. It seems I did just have some bad ROMs after all.
