  1. Half a dozen or so games have been sold since my last post so I figured it was time to update the thread. In addition to removing the sold games I also added a whole slew of Atari 2600 games, controllers, and 8-bit computer game cartridges to the list of things I'll trade for.
  2. Due to some unforseen medical circumstances making me feel too craptacular to do anything productive today it's going to be another week of copying and pasting my household's gaming time from my tablet without any picture or writeup. On the plus side, the vast majority of my household's gaming time for the week was tracker eligible this time around! Hopefully at some point this week I'll get feeling better and can elaborate on that with some pictures and a proper writeup to cover the last two weeks of gaming around here. Until then... Ineligible --------------- Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection (Nintendo 3DS) - 38 minutes StreetPass Mii Plaza (Nintendo 3DS) - 8 minutes Atari 2600 ----------------- Battlezone - 4 minutes Centipede - 23 minutes Haunted House - 53 minutes Surround - 36 minutes Atari 7800 ----------------- Asteroids - 82 minutes Centipede - 451 minutes Dig Dug - 52 minutes Donkey Kong Junior - 25 minutes Joust - 30 minutes Ms. Pac-Man (Emulated on Nintendo Wii) - 23 minutes Pac-Man Collection! 4. Obsessively. I keep big lists of all the well reviewed and critically praised games for every system I'm interested in and tend not to buy games with poor reviews unless there is some aspect of the game that is interesting enough to me personally to warrant playing it even though I know it probably won't be very good. In any case, every game I own is a game that I enjoy playing; and if I buy something that I decide I don't care for after playing it then it always gets resold before too long. I keep a well curated collection.
  5. October is well underway at this point, so what (if any) horror games do you plan to play this month?

I've got a whole list I'm running through ranging from the mid-80s to late 90s, so those should be showing up on the playtime tracker thread whenever.

  6. My personal favorites over the years have been... Windows 3.1 Mac OS 10.4.11 I grew up with MS-DOS and Windows 3.1, and while I did upgrade to Windows 98 SE when it came along I found it to be really buggy and fraught with problems for me. Windows 3.1 just worked for me and taught all the basics of a GUI. In my late teens and 20's though I branched out to Macs, and OS 10.4 Tiger just blew my mind with it's stability, visual appeal, and ease of learning. I still use Macs to this day but I feel like the OS has been a lot less stable and reliable since Apple switched over from PPC to Intel architecture.
  7. Thanks for your understanding. And don't feel too bad, I've been playing Centipede regularly since I was 6 years old (so 26 years give or take) and it's I think it's probably the game I'm the best at. Either Centipede or Xevious. Just wait and watch me bomb out miserably when Ms. Pac-Man comes around though.
  8. Thank you Oyama! It's really nice to be back playing again! I had to take a break from playing reflex intensive games for 5 months or so after my thyroid surgery in May, but I feel like I'm ready to get back to it at this point. It was a shame that I had to miss the 2600 HSC end of season tournament but at this point I'm just happy to be back playing again. No worries at all, I hope I didn't sound snarky pointing that out. It was not my intention to offend. And very cool that you used to have the 6 button version of the Genesis stick that I was using (which I actually borrowed from my wife for this round lol). I've never seen the 6 button version anywhere locally but I've been keeping a lookout for the misses since I know she's been wanting one.
  9. Ahh, I finally accomplished my goal for this round and topped my all time Standard mode high score! At this point I'm satisfied and I think I'm done for this round unless someone manages to beat one of my scores. Centipede (Standard): 208,201 Note to NIKON: I think you may have forgotten to add my +7 points from last week's Moon Cresta round to the current standings.
  10. Feel free to shoot me a PM after you finish unpacking and find it, I've always liked the CX-78s. Their d-pads are pretty mushy feeling compared to a NES or Genesis pad but I dig that feel. I was going to buy a new one for $40 from Best Electronics but I'd be willing to offer up $25 or so plus shipping for a used one as long as it was still in nice condition and worked properly without any of the buttons sticking. I have encountered a few heavily used ones with really sticky feeling buttons, so if I did buy a used one I'd be looking for one that's fairly lightly used and still has responsive snappy feeling buttons. Good luck with the move in any case though! I hope it goes smoothly and that you like the new place.
  11. I sure do miss my old Super Twin controller from Ed... oh wait, that wasn't what you were talking about was it? In any case, thank you for the kind words and I'd definitely recommend Edladdin's products to anyone serious about playing Atari. His Sega Genesis to Atari adapters work great and his custom built arcade sticks use the best of the best real arcade parts. That Genesis stick I was using tonight is pretty nice for a $20 arcade stick with membrane contacts though, and I think it's a good way to try out using an arcade stick without breaking the bank.
  12. The Sega Genesis/Mega Drive Arcade Power Stick has the same 9 pin connector as Atari systems and the B button automatically works as the fire button on the 2600 and 8-bit Atari computers. For the 7800 the B button acts as Button 1 and to use Button 2 you need an Edladdin Sega to Atari adapter that makes the C button work as Button 2.

  14. There was a time a little over a decade ago, before the rise of smartphones and social media, when computers enhanced our lives rather than run them. The internet was a kinder and more thoughtful place back then too, since you had to actually have a reasonable amount of intelligence to figure out how to get online and navigate the web at that point. Before the iPhone, Facebook, and Twitter came along I was blissfully unaware that the world was full of stupid people.

I remember someone talking about the 80's and how technology back then was just advanced enough to be fun and exciting without running our lives. There's a reason why I call the iPhone/smartphone The Curse of Steve Jobs...

  15. No worries at all, thanks for keeping a lookout! Speaking of controllers I should go back and edit the original post to mention that there are actually a few controllers I'm looking for as well! Either new or like-new out of package condition preferably: - AtGames Atari Flashback Wired Joystick - Atari CX-78 Joypad - Atari CX-80 Trackball
  16. Thanks for the vote of confidence Masschamber, and for the nice offer on some Jaguar controllers! I may have to take you up on it depending on what the system I end up getting comes with. You've always been a pleasure to do business with yourself, so feel free to let me know if you happen to stumble across any of the systems I'm looking for.
  17. Man, the last month has been rough. Two colds one after the other that each lasted two weeks, then a bout of food poisoning last week, and now today I had to get an abscessed tooth pulled. On the upside I have hydrocodone and Atari to take my mind off it all until I get healed up, and they're both working pretty well.

More teeth trouble, eh? Did you get a local or general?

I actually got brave and just had a local, for the first time in a decade or so. Fortunately it was just one tooth that had to come out this time and the rest should be fixable with just some fillings once I heal up from this.

Man, this takes me back 2 years when I had 4 broken teeth removed and a coronectomy on a wisdom tooth because the root was fused to the jaw, all in one op. Hydrocodone and Atari were my best friends for days afterwards. I feel for you. Teeth ain't fun.

  18. I'm looking to pay around $200 shipped for a good condition Jaguar system with power supply, official composite video cable, one (preferably gray button) controller, and a copy of the 2MB version of Cybermorph. By "good condition" I mean no major scratches on the top of the system and all the rubber feet on the bottom intact. I'd also be willing to pay extra to get a cheap but decent game or two with it (Iron Soldier, I-War, etc.) but I'm not looking to spend a ton on games up front; unless Alien vs Predator or Doom are on offer that is, since those are the two rather spendy Jag games that are high priority purchases for me. Lastly, if you happen to have a spare Jaguar in nice condition but don't have composite video cables for it I'd still be willing to offer around $170 shipped or so for the system without composite cables, since I can buy those separately elsewhere. Well, I think that about covers everything! Just shoot me a PM if you happen to have a Jaguar that you're interested in selling.
  19. It's been a crazy busy and hectic day here today so I didn't have time to take any pictures or do a proper write up for the week, but here's a quick copy/paste from my tablet of my household's gaming activities for the week and hopefully I'll be able to do my usual picture and write up tomorrow: Ineligible --------------- The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Nintendo Wii) - 395 minutes Link's Crossbow Training (Nintendo Wii) - 70 minutes Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection (Nintendo 3DS) - 13 minutes Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition (Nintendo Wii) - 179 minutes Sonic Generations (Nintendo 3DS) - 11 minutes StreetPass Mii Plaza (Nintendo 3DS) - 74 minutes Atari 2600 ---------------- Battlezone - 14 minutes Breakout - 17 minutes Atari 7800 (Emulated on Nintendo Wii) ------------------------------------------------------------- Centipede - 220 minutes Commando - 7 minutes Donkey Kong - 11 minutes Moon Cresta - 136 minutes Ms. Pac-Man - 34 minutes Pac-Man Collection! - 29 minutes Robotron 2084 - 8 minutes Xevious - 24 minutes PC-DOS (Emulated on Nintendo Wii) --------------------------------------------------------- The Ultimate Doom - 113 minutes Total Video Game Play Time This Week -------------------------------------------------------------- 1,355 minutes (22 hours 35 minutes) [613 minutes eligible] Individual System Play Times This Week ---------------------------------------------------------------- Nintendo Wii: 644 minutes Atari 7800: 469 minutes PC-DOS: 113 minutes Nintendo 3DS: 98 minutes Atari 2600: 31 minutes

  21. There's a lot of different kinds of disabilities. Not everyone who is disabled has non-functioning legs, and thankfully mine work just fine most of the time.
  22. Apologies for the necro bump but I've always been a big fan of first-person dungeon crawlers (they're really the only type of RPGs I've ever been able to get into) and I was curious is there was still any plan to ever release a finished version of Eye of the Beholder on cartridges?
  23. The end of September sale is over now, but I've gone ahead and updated the list of things I'll trade for with a whole bunch of Atari stuff! So if you've got any extras of the things I'm looking for and would like to build up your Game Boy / Color library with some good games then feel free to shoot me a PM and we can work out a trade.
  24. It was really interesting and somewhat disheartening going back and playing Centipede again for two hours last night. Centipede has always been my favorite Atari 7800 game but I hadn't played it at all since I had surgery to have my thyroid gland removed in May. I knew the surgery was going to reduce my reflexes to some degree but I didn't really know how much until I played Centipede again. To give you a frame of reference, my high score on Standard difficulty from last year was 177,295 and on Expert difficulty it was 122,136. After two hours of playing last night the best I could do now was... Centipede (Standard): 67,375 Centipede (Expert): 22,591 I'm gonna keep trying and just do my best to just have fun and enjoy playing my favorite 7800 game, but I am getting the definite impression that I'm not quite what I used to be when it comes to my reflexes and ability to play video games well.
