  1. Sale time! Now through September 30th all games are "Buy 2 and get 1 of equal or lesser value free" and free shipping to anywhere in the mainland United States on all purchases over $50!
  2. Not the most eventful week for gaming around here this past week, but at least there was a little more tracker eligible time than the last few! Ineligible The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Nintendo Wii) - 208 minutes Miitopia Demo (Nintendo 3DS) - 173 minutes Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection (Nintendo 3DS) - 43 minutes Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition (Nintendo Wii) - 656 minutes Sonic Generations (Nintendo 3DS) - 36 minutes StreetPass Mii Plaza (Nintendo 3DS) - 84 minutes Arcade Pac-Man (Played on Pac-Man & Galaga Dimensions for Nintendo 3DS) - 19 minutes Game Boy Mega Man IV (Emulated on Nintendo 3DS) - 20 minutes Mortal Kombat II - 12 minutes Pipe Dream - 24 minutes Game Boy Color Duke Nukem - 19 minutes The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages - 112 minutes Total Play Time This Week 1,405 minutes (23 hours 25 minutes) [205 minutes eligible] Individual System Play Times This Week Nintendo Wii: 864 minutes Nintendo 3DS: 336 minutes Game Boy Color: 130 minutes Game Boy: 56 minutes Arcade: 19 minutes This week was a much smaller week for gaming than the past few have been around here, with my gaming time largely consisting of just dinking around on my 3DS and Game Boy Color a bit here and there until I finally decided to start in on The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for the Wii and commit to actually finishing it this time. I played Twilight Princess for probably 40 or so hours last year but ended up getting distracted by some other games and never went back to finish it, so this year I started a new game from the very beginning and I am going to finish this 60 hours gaming epic this time; darn it! I've also been slowly but surely working on finishing The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages on the Game Boy Color, but I've kind of lost interest in playing Game Boy games for the time being so I might put that one off until I get through Twilight Princess; if I can handle any more Zelda by the time it's done that is. As far as the misses' gaming time this past week goes she really just played Resident Evil 4 and that was it. She spent much of the week working on her second play through of RE 4 and working towards stockpiling enough money in the game to buy the Infinite Rocket Launcher and Infinite Chicago Typewriter weapons that she unlocked by beating the game the first time around, which she eventually did a few days ago, then as far as I can tell she just sorta lost interest in the game after she had unlocked and bought all the stuff she wanted to get. Speaking of wanting to get stuff in games, after 24 days of playing the StreetPass Mii Plaza games on my 3DS I finally unlocked the one accessory I had been wanting for my Mii character since I first got my New 3DS: The Kitsune Suit! While that may not sound very exciting to most people it was something I had been working towards getting for the past month, so when I finally got it yesterday I was pretty thrilled. You can see it on my Mii in the picture above. Well, I think that's about it for this week! Next week I plan to continue playing through The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and trying to get in a few more tracker eligible games as well, and for once I've honestly got no idea what my wife will be playing next. She seems done with Resident Evil 4 at this point, but fortunately we have no shortage of other games to choose from. Until next week, best wishes and happy gaming to you and yours!

  4. Nope, I never got anything in the mail and eBay gave me a full refund without question when I filed a item not received claim. That was pretty much what I expected to have happen though so it's no worries.
  5. Six games were sold today so the thread has been updated to mark them as such, and I've also taken the time to add a short little list of a few games that I'm willing to accept in trade. I'm mostly looking for cash to help me save up and get a Nintendo Switch Super Mario Odyssey system bundle when they come out on October 27th, but there are a few games that I'd be willing to trade for.

  9. It'll be interesting to see if Nintendo treats the Switch like a handheld or a home console in terms of future hardware iterations. Historically Nintendo has had a tendency to put out new and improved versions of their handhelds every 1 or 2 years, but home consoles rarely get revisions until late in their lifespan; if they get any at all. Another factor to consider is that the Big N's main selling point that they're trying to push with the Switch is it's ability to be used as both a portable and home console, so they might not feel inclined to put out revised versions of the Switch tailored to be just one or the other. On the other hand, we are talking about the same company who produced the world's first and only glasses-free 3D handheld and then went on to make multiple versions of the system without the 3D feature, so they may not have any problem contradicting their systems' main selling points.
  10. Using Miitopia's recommend character selections I ended up teaming up with RoboCop and Scooby-Doo to go on a quest to recover Bob Ross's face, which was stolen by the Dark Lord Voldemort. This is the most delightfully strange game that I have played in a long time. XD

  11. Tanooki is a totally upstanding guy. I've done business with him before and he was nothing but professional and courteous. He clearly labeled the copy of Nightmare in the Dark as a reproduction and has done nothing wrong at all, so I'm not sure exactly how you think it's justified to call him a scammer and say that he's trying to trick people. There is absolutely nothing wrong with selling reproduction games when they're clearly labeled as such.
  12. I'm sure a lot of people (myself included) would love to have a pocket sized Switch, maybe with dual circle pads instead of analog sticks for pocketability and controls built into to the system instead of detachable joycons to make it a more traditional and lower cost system. I'm just not sure how Nintendo could pull it off, given the limitations of current technology. There's only so small that you can shrink down the parts involved in making a system as powerful as the Switch without having to sacrifice something necessary like cooling fans or battery space. As big as the Switch is compared to other portables, in it's current form the battery and cooling fan combined take up about 50% of the space inside the system and it's still only getting 3 hours of battery life and blowing 120°F air out of the cooling vents. So shrinking it down further without it melting itself or having to be recharged every half hour seems rather untenable. Then again, the Game Boy Micro was a thing that existed so you never know! Nintendo might have some kind of wizardry up their sleeves and I'd sure like to have a pocket sized Switch as much as anyone.
  13. The 3DS is still going pretty strong with new games coming out for it every month, this month it just got Metroid: Samus Returns. I haven't owned a New 3DS for very long but I've been really loving it so far and hope that Nintendo keeps supporting it as long as they can. The Switch is a very cool console with some serious horsepower and an ever growing selection of good games, but I can't put it in my pocket and take it with me anywhere like I can with the 3DS. The Switch is a portable console in the most basic sense, but it is a little large to actually use as a portable unless you carry around a messenger bag, backpack, or large purse everywhere to stow it in. To that end I hope the 3DS line keeps going for a good long time. With Sony seemingly backing out of the handheld market there won't really be any pocket sized dedicated game systems once the 3DS goes out of production.
  14. Once again there unfortunately wasn't much tracker eligible gaming done in my household this past week, and I'm sick with a cold for the second time this month. Crikey! Ineligible The House of the Dead: Overkill (Nintendo Wii) - 62 minutes Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection (Nintendo 3DS) - 162 minutes Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition (Nintendo Wii) - 2,131 minutes Sonic Generations (Nintendo 3DS) - 23 minutes StreetPass Mii Plaza (Nintendo 3DS) - 104 minutes Atari 7800 (Emulated on Nintendo Wii) Centipede - 9 minutes Pac-Man Collection! - 44 minutes Game Boy Alleyway - 41 minutes Sega Genesis (Emulated on Nintendo Wii) Mortal Kombat - 27 minutes Total Play Time This Week 2,593 minutes (43 hours 13 minutes) [121 minutes eligible] Individual System Play Times This Week Nintendo Wii: 2,193 minutes Nintendo 3DS: 279 minutes Atari 7800: 53 minutes Game Boy: 41 minutes Sega Genesis: 27 minutes The big game of the week in my household this past week was once again Resident Evil 4 on the Wii, with over 2,000 minutes logged in a single week due to my wife finishing the game then starting a new game with some of the extras she unlocked by beating it and me starting my own game in RE 4 as well. I had forgotten just how incredibly good this game was since the last time I played it was when it first came out on the GameCube, but watching my wife play through it over the last couple weeks definitely inspired me to want to play it again. And I gotta say, the Wii's motion controls really add a lot to the game! Taking aim and shooting zombies in the head has never been faster or more precise, and for a seasoned Resident Evil fan the Wii remote aiming almost makes the game a little too easy. Over the course of the week I did a full play through of Resident Evil 4 and started a new game with the new guns I unlocked by beating it, and both the misses and I will probably be playing through our respective second rounds of RE 4 in the week to come. For $6 we sure are getting a lot of play value out of this one! For tracker eligible gaming I did get in a bit of Alleyway on the Game Boy last night, but ended up shutting it off after 10 levels since I was just feeling too craptacular from this cold to keep playing. My wife's Wii arcade stick got an upgrade this past week with a pretty new joystick ball top and shaft cover / dust washer set, so when she wasn't using it to play Resident Evil 4 I snagged it for a bit to play some emulated Mortal Kombat and Centipede. It wasn't long before she took notice though and ended up taking it back to play Pac-Man Collection!, which led to us trading off the controller to play a few rounds of Pac-Man Plus and Ms. Pac-Man together. All in all it was a pretty good week for gaming in spite of this darn cold. Next week I'm hoping to get back to my game of The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages on the Game Boy Color that I was playing last month, if I can get used to the unlit GBC screen again since I've been getting really spoiled by bright and crisp backlit screen of the New 3DS lately. And on that note, before I wrap things up I should mention that Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection is surprisingly awesome on the 3DS. I know that the critics and hardcore pinball fans didn't care for it very much due to the small selection of tables and the ball physics not being quite as refined as the home console versions, but man do those tables ever look amazing in 3D and I think they still play really well even with the slightly looser physics. Anyway, that's all for this week! Until next time, best wishes and happy gaming to you and yours.
  15. As an update to my original post in this thread, I have to add... Nintendo Wii: This is the only home console that has never left my gaming center since the day I got it at launch, and man have I ever had some good times with this system. I was taking a break from collecting for the Wii when I originally posted in this thread back in January, but I couldn't stay away for long because this system just ticks all the boxes for me. It's a quirky system with a huge variety of game styles and ways to play them, and most importantly (to me at least) it's a great value for the money. Wii games are dirt cheap to collect complete in box right now, with iconic titles like Resident Evil 4 setting you back all of $6 and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess being $12; both of which will afford you 40+ hours of fun for your money. And if you're willing to do a little work soft modding your Wii with the Homebrew Channel then you can emulate just about every 8-bit and 16-bit system on it flawlessly. The Wii has pretty much replaced my Sega Genesis and has fully replaced my old Atari 7800. It's also my go-to way to play the DOS classics Ultimate Doom, Doom II, and Final Doom; which look and sound perfect on the Wii and play brilliantly with the Wii's Classic Controller. Lastly, I'm a huge fan of light gun games and the Wii is just overflowing with awesome light gun shooters; not to mention ways to play them. Being able to slot the Wii remote into any light gun grip you want opens up a rather enormous amount of options for control customization, whether you want to use a pistol, shotgun, or any other type of firearm you can dream up. And I think that really speaks for the Wii library as a whole. With everything from racing wheels to gun grips, arcade sticks, classic style controllers, and even DJ turntables you can connect the Wii remote to there's a larger variety of ways to play your games and keep your gaming experiences fresh and engaging on the Wii than any other console I can think of.
  16. Did Namco lose the rights to Ms. Pac-Man? They haven't included it in any of their Namco Museum compilations since 2005 so it got me wondering.

  17. I've been contemplating selling my $1,000+ Game Boy collection to buy a Switch but I'm probably not going to, only because I don't want to have to pack and ship a hundred separate games; and I know I'd have to take a huge loss if I sold it all as one big lot. Laziness once again keeps a collection intact. =P

On the flip side, I know that if a big Game Boy modding company like Kitsch-bent ever releases a modern backlit LCD panel for the Game Boy Color I'd definitely be able to get excited about playing Game Boy again. I've just been spoiled by the New 3DS's bright crisp screen and am finding it hard to go back lol

      Skippy B. Coyote

I've checked out the GB Boy Colour but the way it squashes the 10:9 aspect ratio of Game Boy and Game Boy Color games into 4:3 just drives me nuts. The backlit AGS-101 GBA systems keep the aspect ratio right but shrink the screen size down to small for me to see without squinting, so I'm waiting for a better option like a backlit LCD panel for the GBC to come along.

  19. Thank you very much for the thorough explanation if your organization system thegoldenband! I have heard of OpenOffice and I have a friend who has used it a bit and liked it, but (embarrassing as this is to admit) I have never used a single piece of productivity software outside of simple word processing applications so a lot of this is way over my head. What I can say confidently though is that I am willing to learn! Fortunately I've got a good 3 and a half months until next year so I do have some time to watch tutorial videos and learn the ropes. Good points Carlsson! If I did start a 2000-Current tracker I'd want to run it much the same as thegoldenband runs the classic gaming tracker, since I think he's got a brilliant system in place that makes it fun and easy to read the statistics at the end of each week, but there may have to be a couple minor changes for the modern tracker. Obviously the Pre-NES Top 10 is out, though I have been pondering the idea of having a Pre-HD Top 10 to make sure those systems like the PlayStation 2, GameCube, and original Xbox that aren't quite "retro" to most people but definitely not "modern" either don't get overshadowed by the current generation systems. I haven't quite made up my mind about it yet though since "Pre-HD" is kind of a gray area for a lot of computer games and it would include just about every handheld up to the Switch, so maybe it isn't the best idea. I've always liked the 1,000 Minute Club a lot, but you do make a good point about the length of most story focused modern games. Outside of the arcade-like quick play experiences offered by The Pinball Arcade and games such as Pac-Man Championship Edition and Galaga Legions most modern games tend to have a good 20 hour or longer story to them, which would put the majority or modern games that were played to completion in the 1,000 Minute Club. With that in mind it may be best to skip the 1,000 Minute Club and just do the 5,000 Minute Club, or perhaps have a club somewhere in between for the modern gaming tracker.
  20. The other big thing of interest for me from today's Nintendo Direct was the Super Mario Odyssey Switch system bundle: I'm only kinda-sorta interested in paying Mario Odyssey, but would you look at those red joycons! To me they look absolutely awesome and I can definitely see myself playing some DOOM with those things, so that's the bundle I'll be going for when I buy a Switch this fall. Sadly the copy of Super Mario Odyssey that it comes with is just a digital download code and not a physical cart, so I'll be reselling the download code right away, but I totally dig those red joycons and it'll be nice to have a padded carrying case for the system right out of the box.
  21. Since the Switch launched in March I've been saying over and over that I'd buy one if it got a port of DOOM, and now that it's finally happened I think I'm obligated to put my money where my mouth is. DOOM is one of the very small handful of current generation games that I've been desperately wanting to play, and it's enough to convince me to get a Switch. Between DOOM, Wolfenstein II, Sonic Mania, Breath of the Wild, and Mario Kart 8 I'll have plenty to keep me busy on the Switch for a good long while; and I'll probably revisit Skyrim while I'm at it. Now the only catch is going to be affording one. I may end up unloading 90% of my 100+ game collection for the Game Boy / Color in the very near future.
  22. DOOM is coming out on Nintendo Switch this holiday season! DOOM! DOOOOOOOM! My prayers to the gaming gods have been answered!

      Skippy B. Coyote

Thanks Flojo! I honestly never thought it would happen, it was more of a fanciful dream than anything else, but I wont turn it down! On a side note, I find it really odd how much people seem to like games running at 60 frames per second. Maybe it's just the era that I grew up in but 60 fps always looks weird and unnaturally fast to me, whereas 30 fps looks normal for a video game. I guess that just means I'm hard to disappoint lol
