  1. I bought three Atari 7800 games from Shawn recently: Mario Bros., a custom Klax prototype reproduction, and a bug fixed "Possible Mission" cartridge that Shawn made himself. He was very professional to do business with, quick to reply to all my messages, and shipped fast once payment was sent. The games that I received in the mail all play great and the labels Shawn used for Klax and Possible Mission are phenomenal quality. I'm 100% pleased with my purchase and would definitely do business with Shawn again!
  2. I own the Activision Anthology cartridge for the GBA as well and I've never noticed any inaccuracies in the games compared to playing them on original hardware. Maybe I'm just not observant enough to notice little bits of slowdown here and there, but I've never had any issues with any of the games in the compilation that I've played so I'd be totally fine with letting someone participate with it. I also feel like kind of a dick for badgering RJ for score pictures last week, so whatever gets him playing this week is fine by me.
  3. I gave Oystron a few tries and I think that was enough for me. This game seriously needs a seizure warning on it, because every time the screen flashes like crazy in the warp section after the oystron bosses it makes me feel like I'm gonna toss my cookies. I'm done with Osytron for this round, but I'll keep working on my Wall Jump Ninja and Lead scores over the next couple weeks. And oh, S.BAZ, don't forget to tack on 2 bonus points to my Lead score for breaking the previous HSC record please. Oystron (A/B Difficulty, Default Settings): 14,070
  4. A good video game is like lubricant: No matter how tough life gets, there's . Atari 2600 Adventure - 20 minutes Chase the Chuckwagon - 97 minutes Crystal Castles - 17 minutes Jr. Pac-Man - 26 minutes Venture - 49 minutes Atari 7800 Asteroids - 78 minutes Donkey Kong (emulated on Nintendo Wii) - 6 minutes Donkey Kong Junior - 68 minutes Donkey Kong PK - 106 minutes Double Dragon - 31 minutes Food Fight - 90 minutes Ninja Golf - 132 minutes Pac-Man Collection! - 216 minutes Pole Position II - 18 minutes ColecoVision (Emulated on Nintendo Wii) Donkey Kong - 3 minutes Donkey Kong Junior - 5 minutes Game Boy Double Dragon - 11 minutes Game Boy Color Ms. Pac-Man: Special Color Edition - 23 minutes NES (Emulated on Nintendo Wii) Donkey Kong - 6 minutes Donkey Kong Junior - 11 minutes PlayStation Tomb Raider - 53 minutes Total Play Time This Week 1,066 minutes (17 hours 46 minutes) [1,066 minutes eligible] Individual System Play Times This Week Atari 7800: 745 minutes Atari 2600: 209 minutes PlayStation: 53 minutes Game Boy Color: 23 minutes NES: 17 minutes Game Boy: 11 minutes ColecoVision: 8 minutes If you've been following my little weekly write ups the last few weeks you may have already guessed that most of the gaming time in my household this week was done by the misses, since I underwent thyroid surgery last Thursday and wasn't in all that great shape for playing video games again until Saturday night. The surgery went very well and I'm healing just fine, but any time you get a major organ removed it does wipe you out for a good while and I did have a pretty rough time coming out of and recovering from the anesthesia for the first couple days. I brought my Game Boy Color along to the hospital when I went in for surgery with the hopes that it would give me something to do while I was laid up in the hospital recovering afterwards, but I was way too out of it to play anything for those first few days; as evidenced by the very low times logged for Double Dragon and Ms. Pac-Man. I gave it my best but everything looked all blurry and my brain was in a pretty heavy fog, so any real gaming had to wait a few days until I got out of the hospital and was back home. Once I got back the first thing I did to relax was plunk down in front of the TV with Pac-Man Collection! on the Atari 7800 and play a few rounds of Ms. Pac-Man. It was a real relief to be back in the comfort of my own home and playing one of my favorite games again, even if the prescription pain meds that I was sent home weren't exactly helping me play to the best of my ability. Once I had rested up in my own bed for a night, the next day (Saturday) I decided it might help brighten my spirits and speed up my recovery to get a little light exercise in by getting out of the house for a bit on what was turning out to be a really beautiful, bright, and sunny early summer day. With that in mind the misses, our housemate, and I all took a trip to a couple local game stores together and wandered around for bit seeing if there was anything worth picking up. The misses found a good condition copy of her old favorite Atari 2600 game Adventure to bring home, and I happened upon a copy of Venture as well as Food Fight for the Atari 7800; which was pretty awesome since it's the game being played this round in the Atari 7800 High Score Club and I didn't have a copy of it yet. The real prize though was what I found at the last store we visited: An absolutely pristine condition copy of Ninja Golf for the Atari 7800 for a mere $7.50! As you might well imagine I spent a whole lot of time playing Ninja Golf when I got back home, and managed to get in a few games of Food Fight and Venture as well. By that point the anesthesia drugs had worn off enough that I could actually play pretty competently, and set new HighScore.com world record scores in every game I played Saturday night and Sunday. As far as the spousal unit's gaming time this week went she ended up keeping the Atari 7800 warm and well loved in my absence, with plenty of time logged in Asteroids, Donkey Kong PK, Donkey Kong Junior, and Pac-Man Collection!. With all the time she's spent enjoying the Atari 7800 these past few weeks I think that if she doesn't seriously get back to her game of Tomb Raider pretty soon then her PlayStation might start getting jealous. That should just about cover everything for this week! Play times for me will be sporadic for a while, since I've still got another week or so of rest and recovery ahead of me (which will likely involve taking up residence on the couch and driving everyone else in the household crazy by watching way too many episodes of PAW Patrol) before I can get back to doing all my normal every day things, but hopefully it'll go smoothly and after this past week at least I know the misses can always get some gaming time tracked and logged for our household until I'm back on my feet. Until then, best wishes and happy gaming to you and yours!
  5. Thanks for the clarification! There wouldn't really be any point in using continues in Lead anyway if you're going for a high score, since continuing wipes out your score and starts you on a harder level than you would have started from if you just began a new game after dying.
  6. This game on the other hand I don't think I'm going to be doing much destroying in. Wall Jump Ninja (B/B Difficulty, Default Settings): 66
  7. Now I am become death, destroyer of high scores. Lead (B/B Difficulty, Default Settings, No Continues): 3,124
  8. Lead! Lead!! Lead!!! *runs around screaming with excitement* Okay, now that I got that out of my system this should be an interesting two weeks. Lead is pretty much tied with Dungeon for my favorite Atari 2600 homebrew, I like Wall Jump Ninja a whole lot but don't think I'm very good at it, and I've never played Oystron before. Quick rules question about Lead though: Would I be correct in assuming that we're playing with no continues? Bonus: If I could make any homebrew game I wanted for the Atari 2600 it would be a light gun game, specifically a de-make of The House of the Dead. I'd make it a side-scrolling game like Alien Brigade on the 7800 but with all the creatures and locations from the original The House of the Dead arcade game, including the bosses at the end of each level. I think the 2600 could really use a new light gun game. P.S.: If I could create a homebrew game for any system at all then a good port of the original Mortal Kombat for the Atari Jaguar would be my #1 priority. The Jag needs Mortal Kombat like nobody's business!
  9. Venture is my all time favorite Atari 2600 game, so I've been wanting to set the HighScore.com world record in it for a very long time. Today was finally the day! Venture (Atari 2600, B/B Difficulty): 26,300
  10. Excellent advice! It took me a few tries before I realized that the only way to capture a picture of my score for this game was to pause as soon as I lost my last life. I did get in some more practice this morning too, and this time I also took a quick video clip to show that the game was being played on Advanced difficulty. Food Fight (Advanced): 361,600 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnK6HQSCFEc
  11. Aw, sorry Buttons! Your score is really impressive for sure, I've just had way too much time on my hands to sit around playing video games after that thyroid surgery and I think this is one of those games where persistence pays. I just kept playing it until one time I got really lucky and managed to tap the button at just the right time to stop the food dish a whole bunch of times in a row. I'll stick to playing other games for the rest of the weekend so if you're able to beat my score then victory is all yours.
  12. Bonus game time! Maybe I'm just easily amused by any video game that lets you play as a dog, but I actually thought that Chase the Chuckwagon was a lot of fun. Chase the Chuckwagon (B/B Difficulty, Default Settings): 1,966
  13. I almost forgot about the bonus! My favorite ice cream flavor is... Fox Fudge Freak-Out! It's my favorite for exactly the reason it says on the tin. There's a fox and he's freaking out in fudge, which is a pretty great mental image if you ask me. Truth be told though I've never met a chocolate ice cream that I didn't like. I'm a total chocoholic.
  14. Oh shoot! I guess prescription pain meds and reading don't mix. Ah well, I still had fun playing.
  15. I knew I had seen a copy of Food Fight at a local game store a few months back, and since I didn't have it in my Atari 7800 game library yet I went out this afternoon to see if the store still had it. Lo and behold, they did! Food Fight (Advanced Difficulty): 191,000
  16. To get a little exercise and brighten my spirits I went out to a couple local game stores this afternoon, and I think the Atari gods smiled on me today. I scored an absolutely pristine condition copy of Ninja Golf for the Atari 7800 for $7.50! http://i.imgur.com/o2pxC0I.jpg

  17. I decided to go for the bonus game tonight. Jr. Pac-Man (Atari 2600, B/B Difficulty, Default Settings): 39,350
  18. I'm back home from the hospital after thyroid surgery and playing Pac-Man Collection! on the Atari 7800. I'm sure glad Bob put in the option to start with 5 lives in this game, because 3 lives don't cut it when you've been taking prescription pain meds. XD

... pretty badly when I was coming out of anesthesia. I don't remember a thing but the surgeon said that I was (and I quote) "puking my guts out all morning". I'm actually really glad I don't remember it lol

  19. Well, I'm finally heading into the hospital for thyroid surgery in about an hour. I'm nervous as all get out about it but I know it needs to be done and I'll only be in the hospital until Friday afternoon. Wish me luck and have a good rest of your week everyone!

Thank you so much for all the kind wishes and encouragement everyone! The surgery went well but apparently I had a really rough time coming out of the anesthesia and was sick all day yesterday, but luckily I don't remember much of it. I got let out of the hospital about an hour ago so I'm back home now, and I should recover just fine. I still feel pretty mentally foggy and my everything hurts, and will probably continue to hurt for the next 10 days or so, but at least it's ove...

  20. I needed to clear my head this morning so I went on a walk up to a local coffee shop, and along the way I met a homeless man. I bought him a cup of coffee and gave him a few cigarettes then we just sat, drank coffee, smoked, and talked about what was going on in our lives for an hour or so. I had never done anything like that before but I did feel better after getting a fresh perspective on things, and I think he did too.

  21. Thank you for clarifying that S.BAZ, and it's certainly understandable why the HSC would keep things casual and friendly by running on the honor system. I guess I've just gotten too used to HighScore.com where it's "pics with proof that you were the one who took them or it didn't happen".
  22. It depends on the game for me. For fighting games and platformers like Donkey Kong and such I go for the D-pad, but for most other games I usually prefer the analog thumb stick. Then there are those odd games like Pole Position that don't seem to work terribly well with either so you just have to play around with both until you figure out which is the lesser of the evils for that particular version of the game.
  23. Donkey Kong PK for Atari 7800 (Start Level: One, Screen Order: US, Difficulty: Arcade): 96,600
  24. At the moment I've got 6 consoles hooked up to a Sony KV-20FS120 WEGA Trinitron CRT TV (which is my only gaming TV since I don't play modern games), most of which are run through a General Electric 4-Device A/V Switch Box. They are... Atari 2600 - Coaxial via female RCA to male coaxial adapter Atari 7800 - Composite via internal modification Sega Genesis Model 2 VA3 - Composite Sony PlayStation - Composite Nintendo GameCube w/ Game Boy Player - Composite Nintendo Wii - Composite
