Parker Brothers Reproduction Labels for sale peel and stick
Grimakis replied to Age-of-Atarius's topic in Atari 2600
I didn't want to be the one to say it, but they aren't repro quality, judging by the photos. -
I'm definitely interested in Bank Heist. I haven't been able to find that one yet.

Let us know if you find out what game it is.

I actually bought this game and it arrived a few days ago. It's pretty good, it looks nice, and it's rather fun. The only thing is it doesn't play anything similar to the iPhone game. Because you get so little vertical height with each button press, there is little risk of hitting the underside of a pipe, which is what makes Flappy Bird such a difficult game. Regards, George

New hope for Princess Rescue? Nintendo allowing parodies with no C&Ds...

There are OTHER Atari forums? I'm not joking here? -
New hope for Princess Rescue? Nintendo allowing parodies with no C&Ds...

No I got it. It was just something I noticed. My point before was that prior to Nintendo giving people the OK to make fan games etc, it would have been/was illegal to distribute the ROM of a fangame. -
Dig Dug.

Just read that post. I suppose that if Chris doesn't give us permission to make our own cartridges, then it is illegal, regardless of whether or not Nintendo allows it. -

Grimakis replied to 4ever2600's topic in Atari 2600
Assuming the article is true, then Nintendo is giving some limited license to create derivative works based on their IP. Whomever the creator of Princess Rescue is would then legally be able to distribute for free Princess Rescue. Now I am allowed to use and play Princess Rescue whenever I want, say on an emulator or harmony cartridge, because Nintendo will allow it. If I wanted to transfer it to a real cart, I would be able to as long as I didn't sell it. If I wanted to have someone do that for me, I feel like it would be legal. Like if I paid someone to rip my music library from CD to iTunes. Surely that isn't illegal. Just a note, I am not suggesting that this is a good idea for Al to do, I am merely stating what my philosophical opinion of how the law should be interpreted is. -

Well I would be really be interested if there are any precedent cases for things like this. My thought process is something along the lines of if I took some Nintendo Fan Art to Kinko's would it be illegal for them to make me an 11x17 photocopy? I would guess not. I agree though, it would be on the border of illegal. George -

I think that if that were truly a service, burning any ROM to an EMPROM IE: no Boxes, Manuals, or Labels, it would be acceptable. -

I don't think it need to be a parody, it just needs to be a non-commercial use. So perhaps if AtariAge provides a service when you can have a cartridge manufactured with any ROM you specify, it would be legal. Because AA would be selling the service, and the ROM itself would be freely distributed and non-commercial. -
I recommended Tapper to you because it's good. The only feature thats missing is the cash tips that customers leave on the bar. Otherwise it looks and plays really well for the 2600. I can never seem to get past that broken-down bar, thats how tough it is. I just started with the Atari 2600 a few months ago. As someone not influenced by nostalgia, I see games that people recall as their favorites, and some of them haven't held up very well. Unfortunately, while many people are fond of Pitfall, Nintendo has spoiled me for platformers, and Pitfall just doesn't deliver anymore. But Activision & Imagic made some of the most creative games that really deserve modern ports.

Enduro, Frogger II, Fathom, Dragonfire. Edit: Forgot Tapper.

I don't have an explanation for you, but I do want to make one comment. The word you want to use for moving something back and forth is jiggle. Giggle is what a little girl does when she sees something funny. Just a legit FYI, not trying to be rude or anything.

I understand it wasn't totally uncommon from Activision. I believe a youtuber once said that his parents bought him Keystone Kapers(brand new) and it was Pitfall. So yes, it is entirely possible that someone at the factory put the wrong wrong label on. I read another similar testimony from someone here at AtariAge.

Try this one: Gameboy -> N64 -> PC -> NES -> Gamecube -> PC -> Wii -> PC -> SNES -> PC -> PS1 -> PS2 -> PS4 -> PC -> Atari 2600

I just got one. It's pretty good, although the throw is a little long, and the buttons are rather deeper. What do you guys think, yay or nay?

He posted it for the benefit of other people that might want to be able to see what you're talking about without parsing the whole list.

There's good and bad in modern gaming. Unfortunately a lot of the mainstream stuff is bad. Nintendo still puts out quality titles.

Dig Dug is by far the best conversion in my opinion. It might not look as nice as the arcade version, but it sure does play well.

Hi everyone. This may be my first post here, I am not sure, but I've been lurking for a bit. About two months ago I purchased an Atari Light-Sixer for $30 with box, controllers and a few games. I've since expanded my collection from 5 games to around 30. Some of them are fun, and some of them haven't held up so well. I grew up in a post-Atari world, with the N64 and GBC being my introduction to video games. Having said that, I am able to appreciate the 2600 for what it did well, and I acknowledge what it didn't do well. As far as good ports from the Arcade to the Atari, Frogger, Space Invaders, Dig Dug, Ms. Pac-Man, and even Mario Bros all come to mind. There are also a bunch of fantastic games like Demon Attack, Keystone Kapers, Atlantis, Enduro, Boxing, River Raid, Pitfall/II, and many others that are good originals. Owning a 2600 is owning a small piece of history. Even though the graphics are very outdated, the controls are simple, and the games aren't very long, it all adds to their charm. If you are truly a fan of gaming in general, it would behoove you to appreciate games from all eras, including the earliest ones. Many "gamers" are concerned only with the latest and greatest titles, but true gamers appreciate and enjoy games from many different platforms, not limiting themselves to just modern games. While I have a clear bias toward Nintendo, and own every major Nintendo Console(except Virtual Boy and Wii U), I also have and enjoy the Genesis & Dreamcast, PS1-PS4, and now I'm getting into Atari. I think the point I am making is that you should try everything. EDIT: Also, I have to recommend Best Electronics. When I got the console, my two joysticks were very stiff and finicky. I ordered their Gold Joystick PCB and the plastic stick upgrades, and it made a world of a difference to the atari joysticks. They are much more responsive and still have a very short throw. I know a lot of people prefer alternatives to the standard Atari pad, but after the upgrade I've experienced no problems.
