Ep 242: Ikari Warriors NES
-
Massive unboxing of a 2600, 7800 and special XE item lot.
-
I went with Basketbrawl, since I will need to play it soon for the podcast anyway.

Ep 241: Double Dragon (Sega Genesis)

I can't divulge that at this time. As soon as I'm able, though, I definitely will. The Sega products will be the same, but will have an interesting software twist.
I look forward to when you can!
For the Atari, my first guess would be a portable system with a second, very long-shot guess being a version with an actual cartridge port.
The software twist intrigues me. I could see new licensed games (For instance, if AtGames worked a deal with EA, that could open the door to a large amount of titles), or I could see the addition of some games that could've been played with attachments such as the Power Base Converter, 32X or perhaps even the Sega CD. Since AtGames has already released Master System games on other devices, I could see some SMS titles included on the next line of Genesis devices as well. And of course, there is always the possibility of some Sega Arcade games...

What's coming out in 2016 is two Atari 2600-based products and two Sega Genesis-based products.
The two Genesis projects seem to be predictable (I'm guessing the similar PnP & portable systems, perhaps with new exclusives to replace Mortal Kombat 1-3).
However, are you free to say what the second 2600 product will be? A portable perhaps?
Thanks for taking the time answer all these questions. I wish there were more physical products, but I understand the economics of it don't always support new products, especially for the more obscure systems.

I am curious, do you make money off of this?
If by "this", you mean the thread, nope!

If by "this" you mean the podcast, its free to download and I don't get any revenue from the downloads nor do I have any paid advertisers.
If i get any money from it, it would be from the ads in the YouTube version, which isn't anything to write home about. I think my last episode has made a whopping 28 cents and that is actually pretty high for an episode.
I do have a Patreon account that is under my YouTube channel name that has some support that could cover minor expenses should they arise, but doesn't cover my total costs.
So in the end I do this podcast because I wanted to give the 7800 its due in the podcasting world. And from what I understand, it is very rare for a podcaster to make any significant money off of what they do, especially covering retro games.

I'm looking for feedback for the next episode of the Atari 7800 Game By Game Podcast (you can find it on iTunes, Stitcher, YouTube or use this feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/78gbg )
What are your memories and/or thoughts on Mat Mania Challenge & Planet Smashers on the 7800?
Also, how would you rate them? I use a system of 4 choices (From Best to Worst):
Hall of Fame Game (Top 5 game on the system)
Solid Game
"Meh" Game
Trash Game (Bottom 5 game on the system)
These games will be covered on Episode 27
You can also e-mail text or audio to [email protected]
If you get it in by Friday, it should make the show, but late submissions sometimes get squeezed in too, so send it even if it's late.
Just keep it family friendly

You can also send feedback on previously covered games or the system itself.

The 2015 Poddies Awards show has been published. I really don't like fighting with Podomatic.

Enjoy.
Finally got to listen!
Glad to here Christian win for his great audio submission and Pie Factory was a great pick too.

And I agree...that is one creepy robotic voice

It'll be interesting to see what the next poddies hold. I think Willie would be a great host if he isn't too busy with his 20,000 other podcasts.

Figured I'd chime in with my Edladdin experience. In a word, his products are GREAT! I got a chance to play the Super Twin 78 controller with Robotron 2084 on the 7800 and it made a huge difference. I more than double not only my score, but my enjoyment of the game as well. I currently have a Supreme 78: All Play 4/8 and a Seagull 78 adapter. The arcade stick is a true premium. It is a very well built, solid arcade stick and really helps in 4 way games. The adapter really opens up a huge world of controller options, with my Sega Genesis 6 button controller now becoming one of my favorite ways to play 7800 games.
I have also heard nothing but good comments from fellow 7800 gamers who bought some of Eds stuff after hearing about it on my show and others.
Long story short: If you are a CV fan and are on the fence, you won't be disappointed once you finally add some Edladdin magic to your system!

The lightgun WAS available separately.
Yeah, but I don't think it was easily found in the pre internet days. I don't ever recall seeing one myself on store shelves.
I think the game awards you low (10?) points for shooting bottles right above Gramps as a deterrent to "camping out" on the spot where the bottles are initially released.
& I dont recall if Dauber had the BB box, but on the back of it, the 2nd of 4 bullet points says "For use with Atari light gun". & I recall back in the Fergl, Software Etc. had an Atari XE gun (or equivalent knockoff) pkged in styrofoam & shrinkwrapped for $25-$30. I got mine yrs back from Video61.
Yeah, says it on the back, but I'm sure many gamers didn't realize it at the time. Easy to overlook. Interesting thought about the camping out spot
TWO new Atari GBG episodes today! Woohoo!
Actually 3! Shinto released one too!
I feel ashamed for our first episode of the new year. Thank you for humbling us.
I was just saving your bacon from Hyde messing with the editing for overlooking him!

Was the "picture label" variation of Pole Position II ever packaged with 7800 consoles, or was it only sold separately?
And if every 7800 came with PPII, why would it need to have been sold separately? In Europe it makes sense since PAL 7800s had Asteroids built-in, but in NTSC territories wouldn't *every* 7800 owner have had Pole Position II by default?
Good question. The picture label was sold separately (Unless a store made the bundle themselves like a sams club)
And it might have been possible that some late models of the 7800 where sold without a game, but still a puzzling choice to publish it on its own.
