  1. Blinking Light Win has one fatal flaw though, you'll never have that amazing feeling of pushing that cart in and pressing it down into place Well bedsides being too late to the topic I'll still give my 2 cents. I sold my stockpile of about 15 NES consoles on Ebay last year. I procrastinated for a long time because a dreaded getting them in perfect order so I wouldn't have any complaints or returns. Boiling, bending pins, new pins, lock out chip - I tried everything. All that stuff is completely trash and a waste of time, all you need is this: Eliminator Cleaning kit. This exact brand. Wet it with some alcohol slide it in and out with the tray both up and lowered. Take it out and clean the end with alcohol pads and re-insert. You wouldn't believe the crap coming off your pins. It's more abrasive then the junk Nintendo cleaning kits. Sure it will eventually wear down the pins but not anytime soon. I would put my deck up against anybody's including Blinking light Win in a challenge to see who can run the dirtiest cart.
  2. A Disc Replay opened in Elgin Illinois. They bought up all the old games in the area, had them priced way above Ebay, closed shop after their 6 month lease. TNT Games in Dekalb closed and so did Play N' Trade in St. Charles. There's still Disc Replays every where else and Gorilla Games in Naperville and Game Corner and Game Worlds in Rockford. But the prices are too high and they don't have enough cool/rare stuff to make it a fun window shopping trip. The only way a retro gaming store gets away with having reasonable prices is if they have a ton of new inventory coming in. Otherwise they dry up pretty fast. There was a store around me that made it really easy to spot a good deal. You just had to look at the sticker price and if it was brown and crusty from age it was a good deal. Pocky & Rocky $12, Knights of the Round $15, King of Dragons $10. Needless to say all their good inventory went pretty quickly.
  3. Great podcast! Very well done, I like the format.
  4. I think the massive flow of gamers from the PS2 to the XBox360 back to the PS4 shows that despite what it looks like, gammers will move brands to the best perceived console.
  5. 1. Star Fox statue I found at a Flea Market - I smiled for a week straight after finding it. A fun and absurd center piece for my collection. 2. Sealed Video Gem Games 3. Bally Astrocade Space Invaders demo prototype - I got to discover something and contribute to the history of gaming! 4. Space Invaders Arcade Cabinet 5. Original Odyssey in travel case

Sega Master System, Intellivision II, and Atari 2600 jr. The Atari and Int have long cords so I can pull them way out next to the couch to make up for their short cords.

That's a record player suitcase and the records are behind it.
  9. Interested: Cuphead Detroit Not interested: Every thing else. I'm really disappointed in Resident Evil. Making the game 1st person for you can do VR is too much for me. Looks too scripted and dirty and not fun. Looking more forward to Re2 remake.
  10. I'm saying the owner of this would most likely be an idiot, and have a higher chance of shooting himself while he plays with it.
  11. This thing is so stupid. Imagine how many dorks would be shooting themselves. Totally what was meant by the 2nd amendment. GG
  12. But you're forgetting that 20 years from now people will start saying "Hey remember that crappy Atari/Intellivision/Colecovision Flashback system our Dad forced us to play, I miss that." and the cycle will repeat itself One thing that pre-crash systems doesn't have going for it is the franchises are mostly dead. Nintendo was able to make Earthbound a success and turn it into a $200 game 20 years after it came out by including its characters in current games. My nieces wanted to play a Zelda game after their character got Link's hat in Animal Crossing. So as much as people on here seem to hate Nintendo, they might have the greatest chance of keeping old games relevant for longer and opening new eyes to them. I love pre-crash games but find it easy to take them for granted. Seems like every shoe box at Flea markets and every Goodwill shelf has a couple of games on it. I have sold a couple systems with games recently and am surprised how much I get for them. So I would consider the market to be great especially considering the aforementioned Flashback systems. Sure everything is going to fade into obscurity eventually, but I think pre-crash games will still have some legs for awhile. In fact, I'll keep a system to sell 50 years from now and report back on how I did.
  13. My Astrocade collection. Recently found a second working unit (left) at a flea market that came with Muncher and Sea Devil. Also pictured are my 2 prototypes, Bally Pin and Space Invaders.

  15. We definitely wouldn't be where we are today without the Intellivision disc, while the d pad is pretty much forgotten... Its also nice that Sony and Microsoft allow unlicensed games on their systems, can't wait to play Custer's Revenge 37 on my PS4. Nintendo almost ruined it for us... (wakes up) oh...
  16. I bid early and often and lose 90% of what I bid on. I'm probably the guy you think is a shill bidder.
  17. I made the long trip to my favorite flea market over the weekend and came home with this. Bally Astrocade, 3 controllers, 8 games. The guy said it powered on, but I figured it was probably 50/50 or whether any given Astrocade works. The thing I was after was the games. It had $125 price tag on it and he gave me the usual spiel about how rare it is and how much it sells for online. I took it home for $90. And surprisingly it works, really good even. Its nice when you see something rare and actually know what it is and what's a good deal. I won't be selling them but what does Muncher and Sea Devil go for. There's none on Ebay but I seemed to think $50 and $80 respectively. I also got another Gyromite famicom adaptor cart and Mario 2 for $15.
  18. I'm really excited for the Retronauts SMS podcast Saturday. I've been trying to get through Alex Kidd in Miracle world and hopefully get a ways into Phantasy Star also before then. Also the interview with the people who discovered the Nintendo PlayStation prototype seems like a big deal and a huge "get" for them as well as the Atari 2600 designer. I've been a bit busy but I was going to make a trade list. Off the top of my head I have a bunch of SNES, N64 and GameCube games, including Crono Trigger, Paper Mario, Twilight Princess, Smash Bros Melee, Mario Sunshine and a bunch more. I can do some more digging if anyone's interested. I'm looking for FFII SNES, Conkers - Starcraft64 N64, Lunar Sega CD, Twin Snakes - RE3 + Code Veronica GameCube. I also have two of those Atari Pinball pong systems (brown and white) but there super hidden away in my basement somewhere. I'll be there both days staying at the overflow hotel. If anyone sees me feel free to say hi. Ill be wearing a "pocky and rocky" shirt (aka little Japanese girl and Racoon). A link to my collection thread is HERE although it could use some updating. and I look like this guy..
  19. Anyone ever do the Friday night event? Is it worth it? Seems like it might be fun, drinking and socializing.
  20. I'm playing Fire Emblem Fates now, Bravley Default End Layer in a month or too and hoping I get one more Monster Hunter (X) for the system. I think I'll be satisfied with that and the 3DS can go down as probably my favorite system of all time. It really has scratched my RPG itch is a world full of fewer RPGs. I'm also in the middle of Xenoblade now and can't give it enough praise. I used to think people were making excuses for it because it was a rare wii game but it by far has the most beautiful and amazing environments of any game I have played. I'll definitely keep my system, MM special edition New 3DS. Hopefully Nintendo doesn't change formats too much but I understand that I'm more of a niche consumer and can't blame them for it.
  21. I think they are pretty much the exclusive "modern" beat 'em ups. They are what Beat 'em Ups look like in a modern 3d space. Any 2d side scrolling Beat 'em Up I would consider more of a throwback. Bayonetta is pretty much identical to Viewtiful Joe besides being in a 3D space. It just doesn't try to look the part.
  22. I got screwed by GameReproductions.com. I ordered some games for my brother's birthday 4 months in advanced because I have heard they can be slow. I had to email them two weeks before to see where my games were because I still hadn't gotten them. I got the games in time and gave them to my brother....Star Fox 2 doesn't work. I email, no response. I email two more times, ZERO communication. I paid $102.50 for a Starfox 2 cart that freezes every single time we try to play. You're better off buying off of Ebay at that price, and if it doesn't work a lot easier trying to get your money back. If anyone has any suggestions or wants to look at my cart I'd shell over a few bucks, since I'm already invested.
  23. I'll post mine, hey it was tough work! I even managed to get through it without loosing a life. 999999 Really fun game. I had never played it before. It's always annoying when I hear people talk about how many bad games there are on the NES when there's a hundred games like this that are awesome that no one talks about. The game can seem a little unfair at the beginning but once you manage it the rest is quite a bit easier.
  24. A lot of people who played games as a kid don't have new consoles. Spending $30 on what many consider to the the single greatest game of all time is not that big of a deal to a lot of people. Destiny had a $500 Million dollar budget 700 people work on a AAA Ubisoft game. HD games are expensive to make. $59.99 is not unreasonable. Some games have to sell more then 5 or 10 million copies just to break even. There are exceptions of course.
