Oh god, this. The bizarre assumption that if Nintendo released a magical console that shits rainbows the "hardcore gamers" would flock en masse from Sony and MS to anchor their ships in the big N's harbour is ridiculous. As far back as the N64 Nintendo was not exactly known as the place to go for "hardcore" games (It could even be argued this has always been the case). Sure there have been some stand-out titles, and the 64 got Goldeneye which was an important milestone in console shooters but Nintendo hasn't really ever been about catering to the hardcore-gamers (whatever that even means). So for those holding out hope that the NX will be rife with games that appeal to that demographic can keep hoping..
I think the massive flow of gamers from the PS2 to the XBox360 back to the PS4 shows that despite what it looks like, gammers will move brands to the best perceived console.

1. Star Fox statue I found at a Flea Market - I smiled for a week straight after finding it. A fun and absurd center piece for my collection.
3. Bally Astrocade Space Invaders demo prototype - I got to discover something and contribute to the history of gaming!
4. Space Invaders Arcade Cabinet
5. Original Odyssey in travel case

I'm really disappointed in Resident Evil. Making the game 1st person for you can do VR is too much for me. Looks too scripted and dirty and not fun. Looking more forward to Re2 remake.

So only black colored guns don't make the owner act like an idiot? When it's spray painted grey, all of a sudden people would play laser tag in the streets? Please tell me you're kidding me...
I'm saying the owner of this would most likely be an idiot, and have a higher chance of shooting himself while he plays with it.
-
This thing is so stupid. Imagine how many dorks would be shooting themselves. Totally what was meant by the 2nd amendment. GG

But you're forgetting that 20 years from now people will start saying "Hey remember that crappy Atari/Intellivision/Colecovision Flashback system our Dad forced us to play, I miss that." and the cycle will repeat itself

One thing that pre-crash systems doesn't have going for it is the franchises are mostly dead. Nintendo was able to make Earthbound a success and turn it into a $200 game 20 years after it came out by including its characters in current games. My nieces wanted to play a Zelda game after their character got Link's hat in Animal Crossing. So as much as people on here seem to hate Nintendo, they might have the greatest chance of keeping old games relevant for longer and opening new eyes to them.
I love pre-crash games but find it easy to take them for granted. Seems like every shoe box at Flea markets and every Goodwill shelf has a couple of games on it. I have sold a couple systems with games recently and am surprised how much I get for them. So I would consider the market to be great especially considering the aforementioned Flashback systems.
Sure everything is going to fade into obscurity eventually, but I think pre-crash games will still have some legs for awhile. In fact, I'll keep a system to sell 50 years from now and report back on how I did.

My Astrocade collection. Recently found a second working unit (left) at a flea market that came with Muncher and Sea Devil. Also pictured are my 2 prototypes, Bally Pin and Space Invaders.

Mattel Intellivision's directional pad "disc" came out in 1979, and it has 16 directions. Nintendo's in 1982.
Nintendo's cartridge locking was illegal in Europe and should not have been permitted in the US. No one challenged it for some reason.
We definitely wouldn't be where we are today without the Intellivision disc, while the d pad is pretty much forgotten...
Its also nice that Sony and Microsoft allow unlicensed games on their systems, can't wait to play Custer's Revenge 37 on my PS4.
Nintendo almost ruined it for us...
(wakes up)

I bid early and often and lose 90% of what I bid on. I'm probably the guy you think is a shill bidder.

I made the long trip to my favorite flea market over the weekend and came home with this.

Bally Astrocade, 3 controllers, 8 games. The guy said it powered on, but I figured it was probably 50/50 or whether any given Astrocade works. The thing I was after was the games. It had $125 price tag on it and he gave me the usual spiel about how rare it is and how much it sells for online. I took it home for $90. And surprisingly it works, really good even.
Its nice when you see something rare and actually know what it is and what's a good deal. I won't be selling them but what does Muncher and Sea Devil go for. There's none on Ebay but I seemed to think $50 and $80 respectively.
I also got another Gyromite famicom adaptor cart and Mario 2 for $15.

I'm really excited for the Retronauts SMS podcast Saturday. I've been trying to get through Alex Kidd in Miracle world and hopefully get a ways into Phantasy Star also before then. Also the interview with the people who discovered the Nintendo PlayStation prototype seems like a big deal and a huge "get" for them as well as the Atari 2600 designer.
I've been a bit busy but I was going to make a trade list. Off the top of my head I have a bunch of SNES, N64 and GameCube games, including Crono Trigger, Paper Mario, Twilight Princess, Smash Bros Melee, Mario Sunshine and a bunch more. I can do some more digging if anyone's interested. I'm looking for FFII SNES, Conkers - Starcraft64 N64, Lunar Sega CD, Twin Snakes - RE3 + Code Veronica GameCube. I also have two of those Atari Pinball pong systems (brown and white) but there super hidden away in my basement somewhere.
I'll be there both days staying at the overflow hotel. If anyone sees me feel free to say hi. Ill be wearing a "pocky and rocky" shirt (aka little Japanese girl and Racoon). A link to my collection thread is HERE although it could use some updating.
and I look like this guy..

I'm playing Fire Emblem Fates now, Bravley Default End Layer in a month or too and hoping I get one more Monster Hunter (X) for the system. I think I'll be satisfied with that and the 3DS can go down as probably my favorite system of all time. It really has scratched my RPG itch is a world full of fewer RPGs. I'm also in the middle of Xenoblade now and can't give it enough praise. I used to think people were making excuses for it because it was a rare wii game but it by far has the most beautiful and amazing environments of any game I have played.
I'll definitely keep my system, MM special edition New 3DS. Hopefully Nintendo doesn't change formats too much but I understand that I'm more of a niche consumer and can't blame them for it.

Do you really think they are an extension of classic beat 'em ups?Personally, I just consider them character action games, but I'm interested in other people's opinion. Thanks for all the other recommendations, by the way!
I think they are pretty much the exclusive "modern" beat 'em ups. They are what Beat 'em Ups look like in a modern 3d space. Any 2d side scrolling Beat 'em Up I would consider more of a throwback. Bayonetta is pretty much identical to Viewtiful Joe besides being in a 3D space. It just doesn't try to look the part.

I got screwed by GameReproductions.com. I ordered some games for my brother's birthday 4 months in advanced because I have heard they can be slow. I had to email them two weeks before to see where my games were because I still hadn't gotten them. I got the games in time and gave them to my brother....Star Fox 2 doesn't work. I email, no response. I email two more times, ZERO communication. I paid $102.50 for a Starfox 2 cart that freezes every single time we try to play. You're better off buying off of Ebay at that price, and if it doesn't work a lot easier trying to get your money back.
If anyone has any suggestions or wants to look at my cart I'd shell over a few bucks, since I'm already invested.

I should post my 999,999 but that would be unfair lol enjoy guys
I'll post mine, hey it was tough work! I even managed to get through it without loosing a life.
999999
Really fun game. I had never played it before. It's always annoying when I hear people talk about how many bad games there are on the NES when there's a hundred games like this that are awesome that no one talks about. The game can seem a little unfair at the beginning but once you manage it the rest is quite a bit easier.

Some of those games are always going to be expensive due to low print runs, etc, but you can't tell me a SMB3 cart is worth $30. Crap.. the WiiU VC is good enough for me.A lot of people who played games as a kid don't have new consoles. Spending $30 on what many consider to the the single greatest game of all time is not that big of a deal to a lot of people.
As for modern games... why are they $60-$70. Again, enough people are willing to pay. They may grumble, but they pay. I guess it is worth it to them. Even I might pay that price for a jrpg that will be much harder to find later due to a low print run (or I am suckered in by a sound track). Can't pay me to play a COD game though.
Destiny had a $500 Million dollar budget
700 people work on a AAA Ubisoft game.
HD games are expensive to make. $59.99 is not unreasonable. Some games have to sell more then 5 or 10 million copies just to break even. There are exceptions of course.

While on vacation my Dad and I were going through some thrift stores. He was accidentally walking in the "employees only" section and spotted these. They weren't priced so we had to come back a few days later when the person who priced them came in. $25 for all. Everything is in pretty good shape and the SNES Box is in amazing shape. Every thing is in original bags and the controller has never been used/cord unwound. I don't own SMW + All Stars so looking forward to playing it with the different Luigi sprite and jump.
On the back it says 9/11/96 as the purchase date.
Picked this up at a retro gaming store. Seemed too good of a deal to pass up for a Famicom converter $12.99. It says Konami on it.
Brother in law got this from the trash. Odd collection of stuff. Dreamcast and cords, Saturn controller, GBC gameshark, all in a Gamegear bag...

...and I knew that the NES was kind of "cheating" by making the playfield graphics smaller. It always bugged me that lots of NES games cheaped out like that and used scams/tricks to try and compete, when they really were very limited. This is another example of my lack of respect for the NES...
It's fun to read through a thread like this every once and awhile to blow off some steam and I don't blame anyone for posting some dislike for a system they feel threatened by. As long as every thread doesn't start looking like this
. One thing I will say is I should give the 7800 another look. I never realized it had such a passionate following. For some reason I've always viewed it as a novel way to play 2600 games. I find that the best way to stop hating a system is to spend more time playing games on it.

'GCN' still confuses me.
I remember being on the GameSpy website and always clicking the NGC tab and wondering why I was starring at a page of Neo Geo Pocket Color game reviews.

Etrain Odyssey Untold 2. Dungeon crawler for the 3DS. Good game, just not different enough from Untold 1 and a blander story lost my interest at the end. That being said I put 90 hours into the first one and 80 hours into this one. I tend to do a lot of grinding and class leveling in a game like this with great mechanics and then get burned out by the end and just want to finish quickly.

I'll have to look for the other Telestar Arcade cartridges. I know I have one more box of pong systems missing because I have the Combat 2 joystick system. So hopefully it's there. These were all part of a much larger lot I bought a few years ago. I don't think I've bought any personally besides another Odyssey in carrying case. I cleaned up the stunt cycle, I'll have to test it and put it on display. Looks like it takes the same power plug as a 2600.
-
I dug out some of my Pong systems. There's one box missing because I know I have that Combat duel joystick thing somewhere.
If anyone knows of anything particularly rare or valuable I made a post about it here.-
