The Official "Thrift finds" Thread
Dashopepper replied to Happy_Dude's topic in Classic Console Discussion
While on vacation my Dad and I were going through some thrift stores. He was accidentally walking in the "employees only" section and spotted these. They weren't priced so we had to come back a few days later when the person who priced them came in. $25 for all. Everything is in pretty good shape and the SNES Box is in amazing shape. Every thing is in original bags and the controller has never been used/cord unwound. I don't own SMW + All Stars so looking forward to playing it with the different Luigi sprite and jump. On the back it says 9/11/96 as the purchase date. Picked this up at a retro gaming store. Seemed too good of a deal to pass up for a Famicom converter $12.99. It says Konami on it. Brother in law got this from the trash. Odd collection of stuff. Dreamcast and cords, Saturn controller, GBC gameshark, all in a Gamegear bag... -
What's the Worst Console You Ever Played?
Dashopepper replied to VectorGamer's topic in Classic Console Discussion
It's fun to read through a thread like this every once and awhile to blow off some steam and I don't blame anyone for posting some dislike for a system they feel threatened by. As long as every thread doesn't start looking like this . One thing I will say is I should give the 7800 another look. I never realized it had such a passionate following. For some reason I've always viewed it as a novel way to play 2600 games. I find that the best way to stop hating a system is to spend more time playing games on it. -
Ever confuse/get confused with classic gaming jargon?
Dashopepper replied to Csonicgo's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I remember being on the GameSpy website and always clicking the NGC tab and wondering why I was starring at a page of Neo Geo Pocket Color game reviews. -
Etrain Odyssey Untold 2. Dungeon crawler for the 3DS. Good game, just not different enough from Untold 1 and a blander story lost my interest at the end. That being said I put 90 hours into the first one and 80 hours into this one. I tend to do a lot of grinding and class leveling in a game like this with great mechanics and then get burned out by the end and just want to finish quickly.

I'll have to look for the other Telestar Arcade cartridges. I know I have one more box of pong systems missing because I have the Combat 2 joystick system. So hopefully it's there. These were all part of a much larger lot I bought a few years ago. I don't think I've bought any personally besides another Odyssey in carrying case. I cleaned up the stunt cycle, I'll have to test it and put it on display. Looks like it takes the same power plug as a 2600.

I dug out some of my Pong systems. There's one box missing because I know I have that Combat duel joystick thing somewhere. If anyone knows of anything particularly rare or valuable I made a post about it here.

I was poking around Ebay this morning and stumbled across an Executive Games pong system with an astronomical buy-it-now price. Thinking I had one I went to my basement and started pulling out boxes. The good news is I found the Executive Games and it is in excellent condition and fully works. The only one sold was parts only and went for $30. Anyone know what these go for? I looked up some stuff when I first bought the lot that had all these but I don't remember being able to find much and what I did wasn't worth much besides the original Odyssey. Is there anything else I have that stands out as particularly rare or valuable?

Christmas and Birthdays have been a little extra special the last few years as my garbageman Brother-in-Law gives me all the trash finds he has collected throughout the months. Over the last 5 years he has brought home 3 NES systems, Atari 2600 Jr, Sega Genesis, 2 Gameboys, 1 GBC, Odyssey 2000, hand fulls of games and a dozen or so LCD Handhelds, and some stuff I'm probably forgetting. For Christmas he brought me this absolutely beautiful Atari 2600 Box. There's no system but all cardboard inserts and wrapping are still in there. I find it funny that a lot of the stuff from the Garbage works and is in really good shape. But maybe that's how it lasts for 30 years is that it's packed neatly up in some attic and left alone. P.S. He says to rember to tip your garbage and mail men for the holidays... -
I was surprised to see theses games show up at Half Priced Books for the reasonable price of $10 each. There were two Wall Street Fortune Hunts so I grabbed the one in better shape (not in picture). I assume there must have been a lot of these made because they're pretty cool and not very pricey even on Ebay. Anybody have any fondness for these Odyssey board games or like playing them?

Thanks Secret Santa! Great fitting shirts, 6 DVD "Then Nuts and Bolts to Videogame Collecting" video, and candy. Awesome stuff, The DVDs are the perfect thing to have going on in the background while I play a game on my main TV. This is my first time doing this and really enjoyed it, looking forward to next year!

2,036,090 It's my first time doing any HSC. Looks like a fun incentive to dust off the NES every once and awhile. After playing a couple nights I decided to do a LED light mod so I could tell if my power strip was on. I look forward to playing with all you. (BTW I really like Bubble Bobble, won't be good at much else:)

Favorite Gaming Memory/Purchase as an Adult

I don't know if I'll ever match my excitement of finding this Starfox at a flea market. I was smiling for weeks. I also had a pretty good Craigslist purchase of a guys entire collection. It was this gift that has kept on giving as I am still discovering things 3 years after. Here's a list - -

Eerie Sense of Urgency in the Collecting World?
Dashopepper replied to MotoRacer's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I would like someone to expand on the "burst" of the Atari market bubble. I've heard of this mentioned many times but it was before my time collecting. What years? Was there a spike or gradual? Anything notable? I have sold a few in the last 2 years and haven't noticed it being particularly undervalued compared to other systems (NES, SNES). I was getting $60-80 for a 2600 and a couple games. What would this have been before the crash? -
Obscure games you have played
Dashopepper replied to helderuto's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I've played Space Adventure: Cobra Legendary Bandit whatever on Sega CD. I liked it a lot although I've never really played much point and click adventure games or have read manga. It's about as obscure of a game that I own. -
Lack of Piracy Killed the PS Vita
Dashopepper replied to Gemintronic's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Is the Ouya a better comparison of what the Vita would be like with piracy? I've never had one but it was supposed to be the next great emulation and homebrew machine. -
Lack of Piracy Killed the PS Vita
Dashopepper replied to Gemintronic's topic in Modern Console Discussion
You'll find lots of people who try to justify their piracy by claiming they "helped" the PSP. There's one stat they usually cite where people who pirate more also tend to buy more retail games. But there's an over abundance of information from Sony and others about how much piracy hurt them and game publishers. Hardware revisions, software revisions and eventually KILLING off the PSP and DS earlier then they wanted. It scared away publishers and scared Sony into the Vita. (Full disclosure, I have 50 games for my PSP. I have spent $0 for games for my PSP...) -
Games you think are worth their high price?
Dashopepper replied to Dashopepper's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Final Fantasy II and III are a great value. There're kind of like Tegan Tetris were they used to be on the high end, but have had very modest price increases. -
Which games have you spent the most time playing?
Dashopepper replied to BillyHW's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I played World of Warcraft for a few years, I think my combined time was 260 days, which is 6,240 hours. My ony regret is that I didn't play more when it was the golden age of the mmorpg. Next might be The Sims (pc) and Animal Crossing (Gamecube). All easy games to sink a lot of hours into. -
Games you think are worth their high price?
Dashopepper posted a topic in Classic Console Discussion
A lot of valuable games are pretty crappy. Their price is more a reflection of rarity rather then value. So what games do you think are worth their steep asking price? (and yes I know about emulation...) One for me is Pocky & Rocky for the SNES. From the moment you put it in it's one of the best "feeling" games I have played. It's quick and responsive and easy to control. The graphics are charming, clean, and colorful. It's also a good crossroads of genres, challenging, and excellent 2 player co-op. Now as the game approaches $100 it's price may be soon outweighing its value. But it's definitely one of the best for the money. -

My Dad picked up this Mattel Aquarius lot at Goodwill. $24 for the system and $10 each for other units (printer, Data Recorder, Expansion). Pretty neat find and in really good condition overall. -
Yea, I forgot to mention that I started it up. Screen looks good and both blanks ejected so looks good so far.
