Christmas and Birthdays have been a little extra special the last few years as my garbageman Brother-in-Law gives me all the trash finds he has collected throughout the months. Over the last 5 years he has brought home 3 NES systems, Atari 2600 Jr, Sega Genesis, 2 Gameboys, 1 GBC, Odyssey 2000, hand fulls of games and a dozen or so LCD Handhelds, and some stuff I'm probably forgetting. For Christmas he brought me this absolutely beautiful Atari 2600 Box. There's no system but all cardboard inserts and wrapping are still in there. I find it funny that a lot of the stuff from the Garbage works and is in really good shape. But maybe that's how it lasts for 30 years is that it's packed neatly up in some attic and left alone.
P.S. He says to rember to tip your garbage and mail men for the holidays...

I was surprised to see theses games show up at Half Priced Books for the reasonable price of $10 each. There were two Wall Street Fortune Hunts so I grabbed the one in better shape (not in picture). I assume there must have been a lot of these made because they're pretty cool and not very pricey even on Ebay. Anybody have any fondness for these Odyssey board games or like playing them?

Thanks Secret Santa! Great fitting shirts, 6 DVD "Then Nuts and Bolts to Videogame Collecting" video, and candy. Awesome stuff, The DVDs are the perfect thing to have going on in the background while I play a game on my main TV.
This is my first time doing this and really enjoyed it, looking forward to next year!

It's my first time doing any HSC. Looks like a fun incentive to dust off the NES every once and awhile. After playing a couple nights I decided to do a LED light mod so I could tell if my power strip was on. I look forward to playing with all you. (BTW I really like Bubble Bobble, won't be good at much else:)

I don't know if I'll ever match my excitement of finding this Starfox at a flea market. I was smiling for weeks.

I would like someone to expand on the "burst" of the Atari market bubble. I've heard of this mentioned many times but it was before my time collecting. What years? Was there a spike or gradual? Anything notable? I have sold a few in the last 2 years and haven't noticed it being particularly undervalued compared to other systems (NES, SNES). I was getting $60-80 for a 2600 and a couple games. What would this have been before the crash?
-
I've played Space Adventure: Cobra Legendary Bandit whatever on Sega CD. I liked it a lot although I've never really played much point and click adventure games or have read manga. It's about as obscure of a game that I own.

Is the Ouya a better comparison of what the Vita would be like with piracy? I've never had one but it was supposed to be the next great emulation and homebrew machine.
-
You'll find lots of people who try to justify their piracy by claiming they "helped" the PSP. There's one stat they usually cite where people who pirate more also tend to buy more retail games.
But there's an over abundance of information from Sony and others about how much piracy hurt them and game publishers. Hardware revisions, software revisions and eventually KILLING off the PSP and DS earlier then they wanted. It scared away publishers and scared Sony into the Vita.
(Full disclosure, I have 50 games for my PSP. I have spent $0 for games for my PSP...)

Final Fantasy II and III are a great value. There're kind of like Tegan Tetris were they used to be on the high end, but have had very modest price increases.
-
I played World of Warcraft for a few years, I think my combined time was 260 days, which is 6,240 hours. My ony regret is that I didn't play more when it was the golden age of the mmorpg.
Next might be The Sims (pc) and Animal Crossing (Gamecube). All easy games to sink a lot of hours into.
-
A lot of valuable games are pretty crappy. Their price is more a reflection of rarity rather then value. So what games do you think are worth their steep asking price? (and yes I know about emulation...)
One for me is Pocky & Rocky for the SNES. From the moment you put it in it's one of the best "feeling" games I have played. It's quick and responsive and easy to control. The graphics are charming, clean, and colorful. It's also a good crossroads of genres, challenging, and excellent 2 player co-op.
Now as the game approaches $100 it's price may be soon outweighing its value. But it's definitely one of the best for the money.

Hi I've been collecting console games for years but when it comes to vintage computing I'm at a total loss. My first console was a SNES but before that my family would always get second hand computers with software. So I have a huge amount of unscratched nostalgia for these games of my early childhood.
I stumbled across this Macintosh SE at a flea market this weekend and picked it up for $9. So now that I have it I've been doing a lot of research and am a lot better informed than before.
So the Good: It looks like I am in the right vintage of computers. Looks like the games I'm interested in can be played on it. Oregon Trail, Super Solvers: Midnight Rescue, Prince of Persia.
The Bad:
Not even sure if it works at this point. I'm looking for a 800k boot disk to test it out.
Keyboard and Mouse - Don't have these either, Not sure how hard it will be finding apple stuff without having to go to ebay.
Only 800k drives - Looks like pretty much anything I'm looking for needs a 1.4mb drive. So I'd have to get an external hard drive with the games already on. Not sure if this is economical over getting something other then the SE.
Also how do I know if these games are monochrome compatible? I read this somewhere. I've been looking up games on Macintosh Garden but the site seems to be down right now.
Any information of advice is welcome!

One question; how did you do the pipe trick in the dinosaur level. I've tried doing something like that before, but I couldn't get the pipes organized correctly. I thought you could "stack" pipes to make it appear like the pipe exit is changing, but that didn't work. Any tips on where I went wrong?
Thanks, I appreciate it.
I can't think of a great way to explain it but both overword pipes I have are actually 2 stacked directly on top of each other. Make sure you don't stack your pipes until after you send your Mario through. I literally stumbled across it by accident and then built my level around it. Good Luck, I'm interested in seeing what other people can do with the idea. So I made pipe 1o, it leads to 2u. I made 3u it leads to 4o. I made 5o it leads to 6u. I stack 4o on top of 5o. I create 7u it leads to 8o. I stack 1o on 8o. Easy as that lol. u is underworld, o is overworld.
9D76-0000-0085-D800 - Zelda IV, I haven't had anyone playtest this so hopefully it works as intended.

I'm really enjoying Super Mario Maker. Creating levels is far more engrossing than I expected and there have been some great user created levels uploaded already. My only complaints with the title are the fact the last thing you unlock is sub-worlds, you can't search for users and the 10 level upload limit. I do understand why they only allow ten levels initially, but it is quite hard to get enough stars to expand beyond this limit.
I would really love some feedback on my levels so if anyone would like to try them out the details are below. I've noticed that most of my levels have a low completion rating, which tells me that they are either too hard, have an unbalanced difficulty or just aren't much fun! I'd like to think it's a difficulty, but I don't think they're that hard and I'm not a Mario savant.
I like the Boo's cottage one a lot. It has a nice intro where you walk up to the house and it has the multiple pipe entrances. I think there is a lot you could do with that same set up. The level might be a little long and the end P switch part a little too difficult for most people.
The Alex kid one is a bit of a mess. I understood it and it looks like it took a ton of work but I'm not sure if there's a ton of fun factor there.
The most important thing you can do to get stars is to have someone play-test your levels while you watch. See were they die and get stuck. It's amazing how differently someone who didn't create the level will play it. Don't be afraid to delete an uploaded level (you keep your stars) and rework it to make it better. Once you get a "hit" level it will just keep getting stars on its own while your others will just continue to sit there. On my good levels its about 1 of 5 people seem to star it.
D70E-0000-007D-4ED4 - Pirate Ship Sneak Attack!

I love the 101's. A Half Price Books near me had one for 34$ but the case was rough(pearl blue) so I didn't pick it up. Mabey if they still have it I'll pick it up for a Mod. Origonal Gameboy games are pretty cheep and look phenomenal on them, as well as region free.

D3BB-0000-0049-1977 - Dinosaurs Attack! :Neat slight of hand I discovered by accident, I explain how its done in the comments if anyone's interested in using it.
1E2E-0000-0067-6EDB - The Great Sushi Escape! : You play as a squid escaping a kitchen.
Comments/Suggestions welcome! My second level: Bustin' Into Fort Knox

Use Mega Mario's big head to tunnel through solid gold...
My third level: Walk on Spikes; Fly with Fish
6307-0000-0068-AAC2
Mildly challenging. I almost entirely used assets out of the second build kit with this one...
Your Star at the beginning of walk on spikes is kinda hard to get. Lots of stuff on the screen I didn't even realize it was there the first few times. As a rule of thumb I always add some more ground at the beginning because what they give you isn't enough of a runway. - Hope this helps

I'll throw my 2 cents in and make a case for the modded 101 top loader. I installed my own av mod and it's pretty simple. The jail bars are removed by lifting a leg leading to the RF modulator. So you loose RF for no jail bars and AV.
I really like the simulated stereo audio that is included wit most mods. Pretty much it just splits the sound channels coming through the system. Also super easy to install and you can put a resistor between them to mix the channels to your liking. Fantastic results.
Clean your games once and never again. No matter how manny times I cleaned my system and games and rebuilt 72 pin connectors the toaster would not work first time a large percentage of the time. I've had in my possession over 20 units, referbished/new connectors/well taken care of and none have been even close to as reliable as my 101's. I haven't cleaned a NES game in 2 years I bet.
Also the system has a much smaller footprint on your stand and famicom adaptors are easier to use/ gameshark.

I was poking around Ebay this morning and stumbled across an Executive Games pong system with an astronomical buy-it-now price. Thinking I had one I went to my basement and started pulling out boxes.
The good news is I found the Executive Games and it is in excellent condition and fully works. The only one sold was parts only and went for $30. Anyone know what these go for? I looked up some stuff when I first bought the lot that had all these but I don't remember being able to find much and what I did wasn't worth much besides the original Odyssey. Is there anything else I have that stands out as particularly rare or valuable?
