  2. I never heard of Fast Eddie until I stumbled upon the High Score Club a few days ago. I enjoyed it a lot. Fast Food, not so much lol. I only started playing it last night, but I know if I had more time I could do a lot better and figure out more of the later patterns. I will definitely put Fast Eddie into my regular 2600 rotation. I'll be sticking around the 2600 High Score Club threads too. I enjoy playing these great old titles with a bit more of a competitive purpose. Its a great way to learn about 2600 games I've never played before. Thanks for organizing this.
  3. Does anybody know the default settings on the NT Mini for the difficulty switches (A or B) for the Atari 2600 core? I am looking to play some games in the High Score Club here on Atariage. This week I want to try Fast Food. Both the left and right difficulty switches need to be set to the "B" position. I have read the readme file, but it was unclear to me.

  6. I believe Bandit Kings from China and Uncharted Waters are both U.S. releases with MMC5/Mapper 5. I also downloaded and tested Uncharted Waters on the NT Mini. It is also a MMC5/Mapper 5 game with battery backup SRAM. I had similar results as Romance of the Three Kingdoms II. The game would load and I could enter the information to start a game. The graphics would scramble when I would try to save the game. The music would continue/loop, but other input seemed unresponsive. At the moment, with JB firmware 2.0, I suspect any of the MMC5/Mapper 5 games with battery backup SRAM will not work correctly on the NT Mini. According to NESDEV, these are all of the MMC5/Mapper 5 NES/Famicom games: Castlevania 3 - Working. The Japanese version and the translations also work - No battery backup SRAM. **Just Breed - Untested - Has Battery backup SRAM **Uncharted Waters - Not Working - Has battery backup SRAM **Romance of the Three Kingdoms II - Not Working - Has battery backup SRAM Laser Invasion - Loads, but inconclusive test with NES Zapper - No battery backup SRAM **Metal Slader Glory - Untested - Has Battery Backup SRAM Uchuu Keibitai SDF - Working - No battery backup SRAM Shin 4 Nin Uchi Mahjong - Yakuman Tengoku - Seems to be working. I played a little bit of it, but it has a lot of Japanese text since it is a Mahjong game - No no battery backup SRAM. **Bandit Kings of Ancient China - Untested - Has battery backup SRAM **Zelda The Legend of Link (Hack) - Loads and is playable but will not save - Has battery backup SRAM **These games are MMC5/Mapper 5 with battery backup SRAM and do not appear to be included in the Smokemonster NT Mini Rom pack by Wolf_.
  7. I play tested Romance of the Three Kingdoms 2 on the NT Mini. The game loads and the music plays. You can select your campaign, the number of players and the province you want to rule. When it asks for the leader, you need to press left or right on the direction pad to indicate "Y" or "N". When you do this, the graphics become a scrambled mess and the game becomes unplayable. The music still plays/loops and controller input still works in the game, as you can occasionally see the cursor respond to your inputs. I could not get to the point of saving within the game. I was using the Rom in the Smokmonster NT Mini pack by Wolf_. NES Mapper Reader indicates: Mapper 5/MMC5; Horizontal Mirroring; PRG: 256kb (16x16kb pages); CHR: 256kb (32x8kb pages); Battery Backed SRAM: Yes; No NES 2.0 Sub Mapper. NES2Edit iNES Header Editor indicates: Mapper number 5; PRG ROM: 16; CHR ROM Banks: 32; Horizontal Mirroring; Battery Backed SRAM; No NES 2.0 Sub Mapper
  8. I was using the latest patch and changed the NES 2.0 header between 0 and 1. No luck.
  9. I tried giving Legend of Link an iNES 2.0 submapper of 1 also. I am stumped. Just looking to see if anyone else had any luck.
  10. I know this is a Rom hack/patch, but Zelda the Legend of link loads and plays on the NT Mini, but won't save. It is MMC5/Mapper 5; PRG:64; CHR:128; Battery-backed SRAM; Submapper is set to 0; PRG RAM under battery = 32k. I suspect it has something to do with the Nes 2.0 submapper. Does anyone know if editing a submapper is a quick fix to get it to save?
  11. I did get a certain RetroUSB the game ripped and running on the NT Mini. I used the UNROM512.bin but I had to change a few things after it was ripped in order for it to run. However I haven't thoroughly tested or played through the game, so I'm not sure if there are any glitches or crashes. So far, so good.
  12. I am having the same issue. I use component video into a CRT. After the RCA II core loads, the menu does not display. Just a blank screen. However, I found the core can still be manipulated based on the way my Rom folders are set up. I use Smokemonsters stock NT Mini pack. When you initially load the RCA II core and are at the blank screen: 1) Hit down once; 2) Hit the Y button - You should hear the dead cat sound; 3) Hit Y again; 4) Hit Select + Down. You will see the Rom menu and be able to load and play games. When going back to the main menu to select another core, it will be blank. At this point I manually turn the system off and on again if I want to keep playing.
  13. I play tested the Atari 2600 Supercharger games the last few nights on the NT Mini. I was surprised at how good some of them are. Frogger is great, Suicide Mission is a good Asteroids clone, and Communist Mutants From Space is a tough but fun Space Invaders/Galaxian clone. I had issues with 2 games. 1) Survival Island would load, but after I hit start, it would show the game as "paused" and would freeze. No input recognition until I backed into the menu; 2) Sweat The Decathalon game - I tried every version I could find. Some wouldn't load, others would but with sporadic & unresponsive control. I know the bios file is good. Maybe bad dumps or incomplete games? 3) Party Mix would load, but couldn't be played - Paddle Controllers 4) Fireball would load, but couldn't be played - Paddle Controllers Also, A suggestion for Wolf_. How about a Starpath Supercharger folder under Games Series? There are only 10 games.

  15. Ok. How about updating the receiver's firmware to a standard version. 1.23 is the latest on 8bitdo's web site. See if you can get them to pair. If that works, then try going back to version 1.05.
  16. I've been using 8bitdo controllers for while and I do like them. I understand the complaints with the NES D-Pad. I use the SNES version. You may have been through this already, but here is my 2 cents. It works for me. Just figured I would share just in case. Pairing: 1) With the receiver unplugged, hold the start button on the controller to get the blue light blinking 2) Hold the select button to clear the saved pairing. The green light will come on and then go off. The blue light will continue to blink 3) Insert the receiver into the 1st port of the NT Mini. 4) Hit the button on the receiver for pairing. It should begin to blink. 5) The receiver should pair with the controller - with the blinking blue light
  17. Is anybody else having a difficult time trying to get the RCA Studio 2 to boot and load games? I did read the readme files and am still not having any luck. I see there are several bios files for the system. Is any one better than the other to rename? Do the games need to be in .bin or .rom format?
  18. I primarily use my NT Mini on a CRT. BY far the best analogue picture on my Phillips 27" is component. I haven't tried RGB since I don't have anything to take that signal. I do have a similar result as you with composite. The color is a bit dull with rainbowing and color bleeding on text and some graphics. I can make adjustments to the TV's settings, but it is a compromise and looks a bit worse. The real systems do look much better on the same video signals on my CRT. S-video on the NT Mini is a step better, but is still a bit dull and not close to component. Everything I said in this post applies to all of the cores except the NES. For whatever reason, the NES core seems to be truer to the real thing on composite and even s-video. All of this is subjective and a lot probably has to do with the quality and variations of the CRT televisions. My LG flat screen in HDMI looks fantastic too.
  19. Possible bug report for the NT Mini NES core. Its a Japanese game, Kaiketsu Yanchamaru 3 (Kid Nikki 3). The core loads the game, but there is a lot of object and character flashing that doesn't look right. Could be the rom dump. Has anybody else tried that game yet?
  20. My 2 cents is to start from scratch. The first thing I would do is download smokemonster's latest N8/NT Mini Rom pack for the NES. It was just released last night (3/27). I would format your memory card in fat 32 with an allocation size of 16kb or 32kb. Don't do the quick format. Next, do a fresh extract of the stock NT Mini firmware v2.3 on your memory card. Load that onto the NT Mini. After that, reformat your memory card again. Put a freshly extracted JB 1.9 firmware on it. Update the Mini firmware with JB1.9. Once that is done, transfer the smokemonster Rom pack to the NES folder on your memory card. It is a few steps, but should work. I did this last night because I was having issues with windows mounting/dismounting my memory card and the Mini displaying double files. It fixed both of my issues. I don't think it is worth messing around with renaming roms. Smokemonster's Rom packs are well organized and just about everything works, with the exception of some hacks. Good luck.
  21. I started playing around with the NES Zapper games tonight. I tested using my Phillips CRT television with the NT Mini hooked up via composite, s-video and component at various points. The Zapper was plugged into the 2nd controller port and the control pad in the 1st port. The games were run off of a SD card on JB Firmware V1.9. NES core settings = controller mode set to standard. I tested almost all of the Zapper/Light Gun games that are in smokemonsters NES Rom set. Here is what I found: Laser Invasion - Inconclusive. I didn't have the time/patience to play the game to the Zapper levels. If you go into options and practice, you need to set the control to Laser Scope (Not Zapper for some reason). Then go to practice - hits would register, but wen't very accurate. Lone Ranger - Inconclusive. Again, I didn't have the time/patience to play the game to the Zapper levels. Also, I never played it before. Track and Field II - I couldn't get the Zapper to register when training for the Clay Pigeon shooting event. I am assuming the Zapper is for this event. *These three games aren't pure Zapper games.They are played with the control pad and have certain levels where the Zapper is optional. Space Shadow - I could get the game to start. The game did register Zapper hits and I could shoot & kill the first monster. But after it was dead, the music continued to loop and the screen stayed in the same position. Control pad didn't work at all. Couldn't progress. To The Earth - Couldn't get the Zapper to register hits or start the game. I did try switching ports with no luck. Everything else in smokmonsters light gun folder seemed to work fine. Am I missing any Zapper games? If I am, let me know and I will test them. Anybody have the same issues I did? I will revisit the Lone Ranger and Laser Invasion when I have some time to invest.
  22. Is anyone having issues with Channel F games? I've got the Roms from the top 3 sites that I could find. I can only get a handful of games to load. I've tried the 3 different bios files too. I got a few more games to work that way, but a majority won't run. I suspect that there may be a bunch of bad dumps floating around and it isn't the fault of the core.
