  1. I primarily use my NT Mini on a CRT. BY far the best analogue picture on my Phillips 27" is component. I haven't tried RGB since I don't have anything to take that signal. I do have a similar result as you with composite. The color is a bit dull with rainbowing and color bleeding on text and some graphics. I can make adjustments to the TV's settings, but it is a compromise and looks a bit worse. The real systems do look much better on the same video signals on my CRT. S-video on the NT Mini is a step better, but is still a bit dull and not close to component. Everything I said in this post applies to all of the cores except the NES. For whatever reason, the NES core seems to be truer to the real thing on composite and even s-video. All of this is subjective and a lot probably has to do with the quality and variations of the CRT televisions. My LG flat screen in HDMI looks fantastic too.
  2. Possible bug report for the NT Mini NES core. Its a Japanese game, Kaiketsu Yanchamaru 3 (Kid Nikki 3). The core loads the game, but there is a lot of object and character flashing that doesn't look right. Could be the rom dump. Has anybody else tried that game yet?
  3. My 2 cents is to start from scratch. The first thing I would do is download smokemonster's latest N8/NT Mini Rom pack for the NES. It was just released last night (3/27). I would format your memory card in fat 32 with an allocation size of 16kb or 32kb. Don't do the quick format. Next, do a fresh extract of the stock NT Mini firmware v2.3 on your memory card. Load that onto the NT Mini. After that, reformat your memory card again. Put a freshly extracted JB 1.9 firmware on it. Update the Mini firmware with JB1.9. Once that is done, transfer the smokemonster Rom pack to the NES folder on your memory card. It is a few steps, but should work. I did this last night because I was having issues with windows mounting/dismounting my memory card and the Mini displaying double files. It fixed both of my issues. I don't think it is worth messing around with renaming roms. Smokemonster's Rom packs are well organized and just about everything works, with the exception of some hacks. Good luck.
  4. I started playing around with the NES Zapper games tonight. I tested using my Phillips CRT television with the NT Mini hooked up via composite, s-video and component at various points. The Zapper was plugged into the 2nd controller port and the control pad in the 1st port. The games were run off of a SD card on JB Firmware V1.9. NES core settings = controller mode set to standard. I tested almost all of the Zapper/Light Gun games that are in smokemonsters NES Rom set. Here is what I found: Laser Invasion - Inconclusive. I didn't have the time/patience to play the game to the Zapper levels. If you go into options and practice, you need to set the control to Laser Scope (Not Zapper for some reason). Then go to practice - hits would register, but wen't very accurate. Lone Ranger - Inconclusive. Again, I didn't have the time/patience to play the game to the Zapper levels. Also, I never played it before. Track and Field II - I couldn't get the Zapper to register when training for the Clay Pigeon shooting event. I am assuming the Zapper is for this event. *These three games aren't pure Zapper games. They are played with the control pad and have certain levels where the Zapper is optional. Space Shadow - I could get the game to start. The game did register Zapper hits and I could shoot & kill the first monster. But after it was dead, the music continued to loop and the screen stayed in the same position. Control pad didn't work at all. Couldn't progress. To The Earth - Couldn't get the Zapper to register hits or start the game. I did try switching ports with no luck. Everything else in smokmonsters light gun folder seemed to work fine. Am I missing any Zapper games? If I am, let me know and I will test them. Anybody have the same issues I did? I will revisit the Lone Ranger and Laser Invasion when I have some time to invest.
  5. Is anyone having issues with Channel F games? I've got the Roms from the top 3 sites that I could find. I can only get a handful of games to load. I've tried the 3 different bios files too. I got a few more games to work that way, but a majority won't run. I suspect that there may be a bunch of bad dumps floating around and it isn't the fault of the core.
  6. Check the readme file in the "Bios" Folder and the readme files in each of the console folders. Kevtris has some good information about the core, button mapping and certain games with issues in the specific core. There will also be valuable information about the required bios files and what to rename them. Good Luck!
  7. I read and understand the readme file. I have the bios files. It doesn't answer my question. Maybe I wasn't clear. With emulation there are other sound files that are required, like .WAV. It wasn't addressed in the readme. That is why I posted my question. No need to be pretentious.
  8. With Odyssey 2 emulation, I see there are additional sound or voice files required. Are these necessary for the O2 core on the NT Mini? If so where do they need to go?
  9. I've also noticed this with the Odyssey 2 core -- 1) Load the core and a game; 2) Hit select + down. From that point on in this core, the buttons on the menu turn white along with the directional pad. The games seem to work fine. If you back out to the main menu, the buttons will be red and look fine. I am using composite video on a CRT. I haven't tried any other analogue video yet (composite or s-video). This is something minor, but I just wanted to throw it out there.
  10. Not sure if this is a bug or a bad rom. I've tried several times to load Namco Classic II in the NES core. The intro starts and it freezes shortly thereafter. If I hit a button, it freezes. I've hit select a few times and it has shut the NT Mini down. This is a Japanese game that uses expanded audio, so that may have something to do with it. Has anybody else tried this game? Can anybody else reproduce this?
  11. Thanks for sending me the power supply specs. I just didn't want to mess around with my noisy OEM power supply either. As far as I am concerned, they shouldn't make noise. I know we shouldn't have to, but I bought an aftermarket power supply as an insurance policy. I ordered this one from ebay and it works great. http://www.ebay.com/itm/122309584473?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
  12. I'm having the same problem too. I'm on a PC, JB firmware 1.8. In the NT Mini NES folders, I have duplicates of every game listed. They all play. The NES folders seem to be the only ones doing it right now.
  13. Thank you for the clarification and your hard work with Stella!
  14. Has anyone been using CopyNES? I've been having good luck with the few licensed games that I wanted to dump. However I do have some homebrews that use different boards and mappers. I'm looking to see if anyone has a CopyNES plugin for UNROM512. The games uses mapper 30. I've got a game that I can't get to work. I haven't had any luck with what I've found on Google. This is for my personal use and isn't something I'm going to post all over the internet. I just want to save some of my nicer cartridges from wear and tear.
  15. This is why Zimba Labs kicks @$$! Thank you for your expertise and dedication to the community. That along with your unselfishness is exactly why I will always support your work. I know you are a modest person and aren't asking, but you really need to set up a Patreon. You will be very surprised at the amount of support the community will provide. Set it up and mention it once. The rest will take care of itself. It will help fund your projects and allow you to acquire additional tools and equipment. I would be at the front of the line. Thanks again. Jason.
  16. Got my NT Mini today. Having trouble with the Atari 7800 core. The menu and games will only load in black & white when hooked up to to a CRT television via composite video and S-video. I'm using the monoprice connector recommended on the Analogue web site. I'm also using a smokemonster rom set with .a78 extensions. The bios screen and the games are all b&w. I tried a different bios with no luck. Using component video, it will load with color, but a lot of the graphics don't look right. With Atari, I'd like to be in composite video on a CRT. The Atari 2600 core seems to be working ok with composite/s-video. Using composite video on the CRT, I've also noticed a lot of rainbowing on the text in the core menus. The picture in the games seems to be ok, but color bleeding/rainbowing can be seen in some of the graphics if you look hard enough. Maybe this has to do with the way the FPGA/cores emulate composite/s-video signals? I'll be checking it out on the flat screen in HDMI a bit later. Anybody else have these symptoms? Any suggestions with the settings?
  17. Check out this video. Its comprehensive and thoroughly goes over video settings.
  18. I'm in upstate NY. The snowy weather delayed mine too!
  19. I thought Commando had POKEY? Is the Wiki wrong? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/POKEY
  20. I am a big fan of retrogaming on CRT televisions. But that is just me. Playing old consoles in RGB that were not meant to be is not necessarily better. Dithering was often used on a lot of older games. RGB cannot properly display those dithering effects and breaks the game. I try to use composite or S-Video whenever possible. This is ironic since I just ordered a NT Mini. I'll mess around with the HDMI and see what that is all about.
  21. Can you post just the files or folders that need to be updated?
  22. Is anyone else having a difficult time finding the Atarivox bios files? I believe I found them in the source code of stella. Are they the .cxx and .hxx files that need to be renamed for the NT Mini 2600 core? If so, how do they correspond to the renamed files in the readme file? I'm relatively new here so I don't know if this is a question I should be asking in the forums. I'm still waiting for my NT Mini to arrive, so I don't have a way to test these. I'm just trying to get my SD card set up properly in the meantime. Thanks.
  23. Same here. I ordered on Friday as soon as the inventory became available. I'm still waiting for my shipping confirmation email.
  24. Actually, it wasn't a joke. Is there an issue with my question?
  25. Also, does anyone know if a micro sd card in a SD adapter will work in the NT Mini? I've got a system coming and am not sure if I need to buy a new SD card. I'm just trying to use some stuff I have laying around.
