I read about this today, and saw the photos. There's a debate over whether or not it's a fake, but look at the yellowing on it-I don't see how anyone could fake that. I love video game history, and this is awesome!

4 head were good for video playback (less tearing on fast play, better still image on pause) but it has no bearing on the quality of RF tuner or AV output.
OK, thanks!

So what would be the best model of VCR to buy? Back in the 80's I remember that 4-head VCRs were said to be the best.
-
I've heard Mark from Classic Game Room mention doing this to get a better picture out of a retro console, but how would that work? The only reason that I can personally think of is to record game footage.

Does the Mega Cart have any tape-based games on it? I was just watching some gameplay of King Tut, and it looks really fun.

I want to say there are quite a few differences on the X collection. X3 is the PS1/Saturn version of the game from what I understand (FMV and all). Supposedly X1 runs too fast? I never really noticed as it's been a while since I have played it. A friend that's really into Mega Man was telling me about all sorts of differences, but I can't name them off the top of my head. For the price it's still an amazing compilation.
Yeah, especially if you want to buy the games individually. They're REALLY expensive!

So I am a big Mega Man fan, and I have a PS2, and both of these collections are MUCH cheaper then buying a lot of Mega Man or Mega Man X games. But are there any major flaws/inaccuracies with either of one of these collections?

Honestly, my biggest problem with clones is that (AFIK) Tengen games won't work on most (or any?) of them. And I love Tengen NES games.

I bought a top load NES back in 2001 and still have it today. I enjoy it a lot, and I rarely notice the barely visible lines that run vertically on the screen. And actually the picture isn't all that bad. I got tired of swapping pins on the front loading model I bought that instead.
I agree with you about the picture-it isn't near as bad as people make it out to be.

I'll just keep it the way it is, then. Like I said, I love how well the games work on it.

This month, I got a Top Loader NES, and it's great! The games run perfectly. But I would still like to get it modded for AV out. Minus shipping, how much would that cost?

One of my best birthdays ever.
We had recently been victim to a house fire (that destroyed my beloved Atari 2600) and were living with my grandmother. I had rented NES systems before (remember when you could rent systems?) and loved the games. I finally got my own on what was probably about my 12th or 13th birthday. I got an NES (with SMB/Duck Hunt), Castlevania, 1943, and some game called Metal Gear. I had played all the other games before and liked them. I had never even heard of Metal Gear. I didn't get past the first building before giving up. I was stuck. I let a friend from school borrow it and about a week later, he returned it saying he had beaten it. Apparently, the TV I was playing it on (an old crappy black and white that I nicknamed Bert) was stretching the screen out vertically just enough that I couldn't see a door on the bottom of the screen that led to the elevator. From that point, it took me about a week or so to reach the end. (I just had to keep checking the walls on the bottom of the screen for doors. Damn you, Bert.)
But enough about that...
As far as the game goes, I really did enjoy it and still think it's a pretty good game. There are a few grammar mistakes (the infamous "I feel asleep" and "The truck have started to move.") but it wasn't that uncommon for these to be in games back then. There was so much to find and explore with a little backtracking. Using items from an invenory, waiting on guards to leave or turn around... it was a pretty fun game. I don't know how it compares to the MSX version, but I've watched videos of that version and it seems very similar as far as gameplay goes. Although there may be differences in item location or end boss battles or whatnot, overall, it's very similar.
I played Snake's Revenge when it came out, but I never really liked it as much. Not sure why. I just couldn't get into it and never got that far into the game.
Yeah, people seem to rant too much (AFIK) about the Engrish in Metal Gear. Not to get too off-topic, but even though I'm no "graphics whore", I would love to see Metal Gear Solid redone in HD. AFIK, the Gamecube port is the best-looking one.
-
I have the first one and Snake's Revenge. I really like them. Snake's Revenge is my favorite. Games are very hard and challenging. Konami/Ultra have killer soundtracks on the regular NES.
Yeah, Konami always had great music in their NES games! Contra and Super C are both great examples of this.

I've never played them, but ever since the MSX Metal Gear games have been available through Metal Gear Solid collections, I've noticed that people have been a LOT more critical of the NES Metal Gear games.

It was a guy on the Nintendo Age forums-Silius: http://www.cnet.com/news/nes-modded-with-a-built-in-screen/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cO8MoyvC_ew&list=FLr13p_BNWo1q3p3qsQ6PbRQ&index=113 That is awesome! Not only the built in screen, but also the fact that you don't have to push the cartridges down, like you always do in the front-loader.
I've seen this in several places on the internet, yet no one has taken credit for it, and I would love to know who did this mod.

I didn't vote because I like both about equally.

Excellent site, thanks for the link! It looks like they're very close in terms of FPS. As far as resolution goes, I don't care, since my HDTV is 720p.
-
I haven't heard of games running at lower framerates than PS4 games. Lower resolutions sometimes, yes (usually 720p instead of 1080p), but not lower framerates.
I thought that there were some games that ran at 30fps on the Xbox One, while running at 60fps on the PS4?
-
I really like what I've seen from the Xbox One, and would like to get one. However, I keep hearing about games running at lower frame rates then they do on the PS4. How noticible is this, and is it anything like what we used to call slow down in games?
Although I love the SNES and the Genesis, I can remember a time when a game magazine, forget which one, complained about slow down in certain SNES games, while the Sega was boasting of the Genesis's blast processing/ speed. I don't know if the current situation mirrors that at all, though.

You may be forgetting that each of those Supercharger games requires extra RAM and besides other hardware and software complications, very short answer is no. And no.
Just get a Harmony cartridge and download the SC ROMS. Damn, this has got to be the third time I've endorsed the Harmony cartridge this week!

Good suggestion, I just might do that!
-
I'm just wondering if it would be possible to convert Starpath Supercharger games into cartridge format, and then sell them as reproduction carts? It would be cheaper then buying a Supercharger.

Yesterday, I purchased a cartridge cleaning kit from these guys: 1upcard.com
I heard about them on a Youtube video, and I have a lot of cartridge games, Jaguar, NES and Famicom, that need a good cleaning. As far as the Jag CD goes, I've read that you should not press down on any part of it, except right where it says "close here" in order to keep it in good working condition. (As opposed to say, a PS1, where you can press down anywhere on the lid.)
-
What do you all do to keep dust out of the Jaguar? I leave a cartridge in mine, but that doesn't cover everything

Someone just found an original Sony/Nintendo PlayStation prototype

Nice! I wish someone would scan that whole document and put it on archive.org! Here's the latest from Engadget: http://www.engadget.com/2015/07/07/sony-shuhei-yoshida-nintendo-playstation/
