Looking for a good site on Mac Plus gaming...
ataridave replied to ataridave's topic in Classic Console Discussion
So, is there a model of Mac that will play both B&W Mac Plus games, and LC games? I thought that Crystal Quest was a color Mac game. -

Ok, thanks for the link! Great site, although their games list is down at the moment. -
I just got a 7800 and am VERY interested in purchasing one of these controllers. If anyone has one for sale, please let me know!! Thanks!!-Dave

Looking for a good site on Mac Plus gaming...
ataridave posted a topic in Classic Console Discussion
I used to have a Mac Plus 512K, and, while there weren't that many games for it, what was out there was great stuff! So, I am looking for a very comprehensive Mac Plus gaming website. I have seen sites in the past that mainly focus on emulation, but I am looking for a site that has a a solid list of games that came out for the Plus, and information on any peripherals, like joysticks. -
Where to get an ST, and what type?...

OK, so would Ebay be the best place to look for a 520ST 1040STf? -

Ok, so can you hook it up to a TV with AV cables, or do you need to get a monitor? I would like to get an A1200 at aome point, and I did see one on Ebay for $99.00. So, how much should I pay for a regular old ST (not STE)? -
Well, I am an information buff, so the internet is great, but, yeah, otherwise computers today just aren't as exciting. I never owned any of the Atari compters, but we did have a Mac Plus 512K! There weren't a lot of games for it, but there were some real gems! I'd get one again just to play the old games! Which brings me to a rant-I HATE modern PC gaming. Consoles today are better, because you don't have to purchase the perfect graphics card, sound chip; whatever. Back in the day, all that was included in your computer, which was easy to upgrade, and didn't become outdated in three months.

I'd like to get one, but I don't know if I should get a Falcon or just a regular old ST. All I would use it for is gaming, so I would need to be able to hook it up to my TV, if possible. Seems like most of the games, like Amiga games, are PAL version, though.

Atari 2600, 5200, and 7800 games to be downloadable on Wii?!
ataridave replied to ataridave's topic in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
There's no word of this anywhere that I've seen. Sounds like your typical lying, game-store-working, trying-to-impress-you geek to me. Though I'd love to be wrong Perhaps, I should've asked him for the URL. Still, I did look in the Wii news section of the site and saw nothing about this. I'd only love to be proven wrong about 5200 games, as they don't work with the 7800, and the system's joysticks are really poor. -
Well, I just sent out a money order today for a complete 7800 with a few games. Thanks to all who made offers! -Dave

Thanks, yeah I actually saw a 7800 on Ebay with one of those on it! But I would much rather get my 7800 from a site like this.
-
So, if only one button on the Genesis controller works on the 7800, what do you use for the second-part of the D-Pad, or something? I know about the Joypad, but I thought someone on this site told me that it doesn't work that well.
-
That's what I'd like to know, for playing Centipede. I've read that you can hook both 7800 controllers together, with some 5200 connetor's, in order to play Robotron on the 7800.

I am just looking to purchase a complete system, in good shape (cosmetic and otherwise), that is complete. It needs to come with a cable that I can hook up to my TV's coaxal port; I don't have an antenna. As far as controllers go, I really only need one, as the Genesis controller is compatible with the 7800 (I think.) I live in Colorado, and would perfer to buy this system from someone here in the States, as shipping to and from Canada can even be a hassle. Right now, I can only pay via personal check or money order. So, if you are interested, please let me know! Thanks! -Dave

Must-own traditional shooters for the ST?...
ataridave replied to ataridave's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
How do these games, and others, compare to their Amiga counterparts, in terms of graphics and sound? -
I love 2D scrolling shooters, and was wondering what the best on the ST are. Are there any exclusives that didn't come out on other platforms? Thunder Blade looks pretty good! (Better then the Genesis version, not that that's saying much.) I had no idea that the ST had the same processor as the old Mac's! For years my family and I had a Mac Plus 512K, and I played some great games on it, but I'm sure that the ST has a better selection.

That review was pretty positive. Though some of their results directly contradict mine. I'll agree with them that the physical construction and packaging/presentation is very nice. I don't have any vested interest in seeing the NEX fail or succeed, and honestly I wanted the NEX to be a replacement in my setup for the Yobo or NES. But right off the bat, games that I see listed on their compatibility list as working with no issues - had problems, or didn't work at all. And they work on my Yobo which surprised me. And I've got a pretty small library ~150 carts or so, nothing terribly exotic. I'll be keeping the NEX, but it couldn't even replace my Yobo at this point. And the issue isn't the carts I'm using, as they work fine in the Yobo and NES, and several copies of the same games do the same things. I'll also add that the first NEX unit I got had graphical issues (garbage in the display), so I had to get a second unit. The place I bought it from noted that they had a few units with the same issue, and their display system also had the same problem. I would really like to get a Famicom Model 2-looks like a Top-Loader NES, but comes with AV, and, AFIK, is more durable then the toaster NES. And converters are easy to get, and you can hook it up to a Famicom Disk System, which does have a few good games. Have you experienced any problems with the Yobo, in terms of compatibility?
-
I'm pretty divided on this console-I don't doubt that you are telling the truth, but IGN rated the NEX pretty high: http://gear.ign.com/articles/677/677770p1.html

I've thought about getting one, but then heard that there are some games, like Castlevania III, that don't work on it. Still, it does have a slot for Famicom games, which I love.
-
OK, that would be the reason why I've seen a cartridge slot hacked into the Flashback 2, and not the Flashback 1. Didn't know they used a NES chip, so thanks for all the info. Too bad the original 7800 didn't have AV! Can you detach the controllers on either of these Flashback consoles, and use something else?

Where's the best place to buy a complete Jaguar?...
ataridave replied to ataridave's topic in Atari Jaguar
Well the CD unit usually sells for more than $80. So I doubt you can find the regular unit plus CD unit for less than $100 anywhere. Ebay is the cheapest place to buy Jaguar stuff. I'd like start off with just the Jaguar, and get the CD unit later. But even some of the Jaguar's without the CD unit are upwards of $80 on Ebay. -
Sorry, first of all, for my whining on the Jag videos thread I started. So, at any rate, I've looked on Ebay, and I can't seem to find a complete Jaguar console (just the cartridge unit) for less then $80! Are there any online stores that sell retro systems that stock Jaguars?
-
All I can say is don't use RF, especially when the Jag. has AV cables. You'll always get a better picture.
