  1. RUN DPC :P

I still haven't set the code to bring out all the objects with the proper backgrounds or the divide scenes where you select left or right pathways. It's totally playable but you occasionally end up with cacti in the grass zones and, like in the picture, the space shuttle in the desert. When it's all sorted out the space shuttle will be during a night level so that the black helps to define the open spots on the graphic. All the proper graphics will pop up during their specific zones.

I also only have two instances of my yellow car (there are a few different NPC vehicles that block you and race along) programmed in. Your car actually spins out when you hit stuff and the tire animation and overall speed is pretty cool. I might put a download up of it as it is if you guys don't mind these unsorted parts.

It will be done very soon. I may be able to add even more car animation and I'd like to add a flipping animation for certain collisions. Like Titan Axe, it's been a blast to play-test while programming. DPC+ games don't work on my XBOX emulator, though, so getting good screen grabs (these are altered to represent reflected sprite pieces that would otherwise be halved) or clean video of this particular game is not possible for me right now. My HD monitor (the one hooked up through my XBOX cabinet) does really clean screens that never have rolling lines or artifacts, so I use it for videos.

  2. Here are some pics of my latest game, Run Out..

It's a high speed racing game with some iconic backgrounds and traffic.

A download will be ready very soon!!

  3. I found that where they may have lost something minor in translation, they often gained something unique as well. More levels in Golden Axe, scrolling playfields in Altered Beast, tweaked gameplay in most, etc. With a 14mhz modded system some of that missing smoothness of scaling and speed is brought back to many of those ports. Sega really brought it home with the two player coop fighting games and Capcom and Konami Arcade ports. The Golden Axe stuff and Bare Knuckle games are really fun and exclusive. Shinobi sequels were excellent and with a Power Base Converter you could get all of the Joe Musashi stuff up until Shin Shinobiden. Although, you did say

    "other than Sega".

I really like playing Smash TV on my cabinet with two arcade joysticks. TMNT is extremely well done. I wished they would have kept a lot of the level design in Toki as it just looks like a lot of recycled background chunks in 'Going Ape Spit". The game plays well, though. Sailor Moon has some pretty big reductions in color and level design ,but is cute and fun. Williams and Arcade classics carts are really good in my opinion.

  4. Well, a lot of your classic arcade games are there! Flashback is fun. Aladdin is extremely good. Killer Instinct is a blast! Seems like a pretty good start. Have you been emulating all these years? Opportunist acquirer? Did you steal these?

Did you know that the Japanese version of Sonic has scrolling clouds and the other versions don't?

What Genesis type do you have? (certain ones can have the edges of the cartridge port cut or filed down to fit Mega Drive games in. Most games will work, too!)

Have you region modded your SNES? (all you do is break off the little pins down in the cartridge port so that Super Famicom games will fit. The systems are the same!)

  5. You can't toss code in from another kernel in and expect it to work. You have to take some time to study that section of the bB page and get to know the differences.

    HA HAAAAAAAAAA!

I can't help but read that in the voice of Mr. Scott.

    :-D

One thing I noticed though is that I didn't see the background or playfield resolutions set.

  6. Do the PCB's need to be in the cartridge?

I have quite a few duplicates I could throw at 'ya. Don't know about twenty, but I'll go dig right away. (uh..dig..ha ha..)

Can the label be torn, messed up, etc, as long as the plastic cart is clean?

  7. WOW! That's some really cool stuff! I wish I could get it all but I have no idea what to offer and have a genuine fear of insulting people with wrong/low offering prices..

I was just thinking of getting a Ti/99. I could really use everything here. I just spent all my allowance and my knees haven't healed all the way yet from the last begging and groveling session, so It's probably not possible for me. I guess I'll just wait and see how this goes and if it's still here in a little while I'll hunker down and see what I can scratch up and offer for it..

    Great stuff, though..

  8. You mean Miles Prower!! Luigi is cool, but is really just a clone of Mario, right? He only got lanky after the second incarnation of Mario (for the U.S., that is) came out. I read somewhere that that wasn't even originally a Mario game!?!

Tails is a cool companion and offers up a different aspect to the Sonic games, whereas Loogy just does more of the same, and cheats at racing.. I'm a die-hard Sega fan, though. I would buy a Wii so I could download all the best Genesis/Mega Drive and Neo Geo/Arcade games.

  9. There is a knob in the system to adjust color, I think. Also, this may just be that the original 6-switch VCS systems have darker, sharper graphics than the later systems. I've noticed that the colors on my heavy sixer are different than on my four switch system! This also goes for the 7800. It could just be the original color scheme!?!

On this page it shows pictures on how to use a flathead to adjust your color potentiometer..

  10. I used to listen to Nirvana like crazy! I remember that a certain game (pretty sure for the Game Gear) was made where the programmers were instructed to imitate "Smells Like Teen Spirit" in the background music. They copied it directly and got in trouble! I think it had a cartoon dinosaur in it, or something like that..

I (like the band) was not a big fan of "Smells Like Teen Spirit", but pretty much every other song was one I liked or loved! In Utero was a powerful record for me. I had the Rolling Stone from his interviews and when he died and clipped those parts. He was a big influence for me ('cept the suicide part), although I've drifted back into the eighties and seventies since his sudden departure (I listen to a LOT of classical music now, too). I also have speculated (and watched shows about) a conspiracy around his death. Although, to be fair, he was in terrible pain all the time (I guess he had stomach pain, like Napoleon, all the time), and he wrote a song called "I Hate Myself and I Want to Die". Dave Grohl really hit the booster rockets after all of that, although I haven't heard much about Chris Novoselic. I miss their style. Many of my friends thought that the band sold out. I thought they kept getting better.

  11. Coco 3 has the better versions of:

    Pacman

    Robocop

    Rampage

    Donkey Kong (with 512k upgrade)

    Thexder

    Super Pitfall

    Dragon Fire

..and a coupe more out there!

Yeah, it's not a 68000 and yeah it doesn't have a Video Toaster or Midi! It had a cute little underground following with a theme song and some great carts! It's got better compatibility with the whole range of Trash 80 carts than the Coco 2, it's own assembly cartridge with manual, built in BASIC that's pretty easy to use, aaaand it can save to a cassette! I really enjoy my Coco 3, and I play it about as much as my ST (which is sad, because I have a LOT of ST software..). Rampage is one of my favorite games, and the Coco 3 does it very well. Downland is a lot like Mario, and the funky DK ports from the old days (like the extra-shellacked version 2600 clone, etc..) made the system a joy! It's just a really fun system to own and play.

The Amiga and Atari ST systems are totally different than the Trash 80 incarnations and basically stare each other down at the 1 MEG for $1000 period of home computers. The Coco is a following, though! I have all three, and the Coco is just bursting with character. It has some sweet upgrades and analog, 2 button controllers (it's got the others beat there!), clean AV out, and is programmable out of the box!

  12. the website www.2600connection.com had this to say about the original..

"In our experience, the 6-switch models offer a superior picture output, compared to the 4-switch and JR models. Coupled with a coax-to-phono connector, they offer a picture quality that's comparable to any mod, and you can obtain composite A/V output if used in conjunction with a VCR."

I was also wondering.. If the 4050 didn't do anything, why was it added to the Jr. version when the 4-switch models didn't have one?

  13. Neither of my systems are modded in any way. I'm pretty sure they've never even been recapped or anything. I've done this comparison on other TV's, too. The color palette of the six switch system is different than on a four switch. It's always been this way! I could hook them up (both of mine are fed through VCR/DVD combos RF and then into the projector TV.) to an HDTV to avoid brightness or saturation issues, although the difference really isn't that big. This wouldn't change the colors themselves. I've noticed that there is a bit of a staleness to the four switch systems when compared to the six switch. For instance, in Pacman the character looks darker yellow and seems more solid. I've compared the six switch system to several others and found that the original color palette is only found on the six switch system! I used to have a Colecovision with a converter and an Intellivision with their converter but didn't have a six switch at the time to make comparisons. Now I have a Gemini, a 7800, a 4-Switch system, a Flashback 2, and several emulators. The Six switch system has the original color palette. I'm not making this up and it's not my TV.

  14. It is a 3 lens projector TV, so it was mainly to identify the color differences. The camera doesn't like to focus and has a hayday with the brightness of the colors, yeah. It looks so much better in real life. These comparisons were taken one after the other with the same TV under the same conditions.

  15. My refurbed four switch looks very bright and vibrant to me on a CRT display with NTSC Channel 2. I replaced the regulator, filter cap, and swapped the original roached RCA cord with an internal 1 foot RG-6 Coax (with big ferrite choke block on it) terminating with an F-coupler mounted on the back panel for a VCR style RF out plug. No crappy switch boxes. It's the sharpest, cleanest RF output possible on an Atari system.

I mean the colors, themselves. There are different (arguably better) colors on the Heavy Sixer (and 6-switchers in general). The palette is different. This may be due to the 4050 buffer chip only found in 6-switch variants. Some feel that the colors on the later systems are dimmer and appear lessened to a degree. The original palette was changed after the first system. I actually program with the 4-Switcher and it's cohort clones in mind rather than the original as more people own and are familiar with the latter color scheme. The six switch models are sharper and have different colors!
