Well, he said the system would be pretty revolutionary. As FPGA stuff goes, (uh...they're in everything up to super computers) a revolutionary one for gaming probably could run something comparable to a PS1 (or..*gasp..maybe even better!)! I mean, you can run Spider-Man on an Android tablet and it looks better than any PS1 game. My son had it for his JXD and it looked and played extremely well. Those are mini-tablets built into PSP shells that get WiFi and can network to each other for two player gaming. He's had his for a couple of years now and it still runs most old school emulation (even N64) quite well and plays modern touch screen games perfectly. Those are between sixty and a hundred bucks each and has HDMI output. Something proprietary would be slightly more, but that doesn't mean it won't be as capable. Whether it's coming to fruition or not I don't think is even in question any more. It's coming! I think the only real risk here is in establishing a consistent reputation after the system launches. If a user buys a game thinking it will be like, say, 16-bit quality and ends up looking like an 8-bit Atari game, or someone buys a game thinking it will be like an 8-bit game and finds it to be quite advanced or modern, like Assaulter, they may shake some people off. Clear depiction art on packaging, some terms to help define the quality set for each game (8-bit retro, 16-bit Arcade, or 3D high resolution), prices that don't deflect ($150 certainly sounds better than $180), and some clearly defined capabilities including technical details, should perk up interests and secure repeat customers. ARM processors in modern tablets and tablet-like handhelds prove that cheap tech has no problem exceeding the capabilities of a PlayStation. The Ouya seems like the gamebox for Android fans, whereas this may end up being the replace-the-android-for-old-school slotted do-it-all system. It may be biting off more than anyone can chew opening the gate so wide as to consider proprietary carts sweeping all qualities between the early eighties up unto the late nineties. From what the producers have said, I would think that developers are chomping at the bit for solid state reps of their software. Assaulter would attract Neo-Geo Metal Slug fans. I wouldn't think that Neo-Geo games would be impossible for this system (the actual games, I mean) as there are some let down fans twiddling thumbs around the X system and I would love to be able to buy a cartridge with a Neo Geo game on it for less than a hundred dollars that doesn't emulate like crap (like the PS2 or X system presentations)! Fans on the Facebook page (I can read it, but I'm done with Facebook personally) are expressing the desire to see older titles, including Neo-Geo, and are helping to bring form to the finalization process. It looks like it will be able to use Sega pads or the pack in analog joysticks (this would immediately put it in at least two arcade cabinets I've already made ) and has a few developers stacked up the left side with little graphics from their own projects sprucing up the page. I think it will be a big success! I LOVE IT!!

The style of games will be comparable to VCS 8-bit all the way up to PS1 32-bit. He mentions the possibility for emulation to occur, so old ROMS aren't out of the question. He also mentions new games being made and more recent, popular titles that the developers have expressed an interest in putting on cartridges. Truth be told, the man made tens of thousands of dollars off selling Jag shells to modders, saved upwards of hundreds of thousands by using the shells from pre-existing systems and controllers, and knows that the system will be made, as developers are already making software for it! My feathers haven't been ruffled, nor am I becoming anything other than fervent about the possibility of a solid-state system with new proprietary cartridges being released in our day and age! I believe in the system and the possibility for great games to be available for it! Employing Americans for a game system hasn't happened in a loooong time! I was exited about the AT-Games Genesis, the Flashback systems, RetroGen, RetroPort, and the Retron5! I wasn't disappointed by any of these efforts and I doubt that I will be by this one! He said that if it's sales compare to the Ouya and it's launch than we're in business! Nothing could be simpler than buying a cart and putting it in a system with no subscription, internet connection, or upgrades/updates/downloads required!

Not just 'someone's' mouth..the MAN who is in CHARGE of the whole thing! It's not speculation when the designer is telling you what is going to happen on the system. As, for the Jaguar. This is NOT the Jaguar. It's not claiming to be more than anyone else in a time when media is changing over to disk. This is a designer that sees half the booths at CES covering retro games and is offering something new with the capability to play a broad spectrum of old-school style games. He said that it would be able to play games anywhere from VCS 8-bit all the way up to PS1 32-bit on cartridges. Listen to the interview before you act like you know anything about the system. People here have erroneously claimed that it would be playing old system carts (WRONG), or that it would only be indie games (also, WRONG!), or that it would be expensive. It won't compare in cost to the next batch of cloud-only download based systems full of fans and huge wattage power supplies. There are companies that WANT their games on a cartridge. This is stated by the man who is in charge of this project in the interview!
-
The guy who's making it just said in an interview that indie games would be $20. There is no online connectivity (or moving parts, for that matter) so you won't have to download anything, or subscribe to anything, or buy half a game and then subscribe to download the other half, or use 350W disk based systems to play an old school game. He also said that there are some really big developers interested in making carts for this game. I was only speculating that SD cards may be used for larger games, but they may have something proprietary that I don't know about. He said that it wouldn't be an Android, so it may not be a variation of the ARM processor. I don't know the specs, but I know what the guy that's making it said in the hour and eleven minute interview in Buttons post, and it was that indie games would be $20 and licensed titles would be more. We have ALL of the systems and much of the software for them, so it's not like we don't know about twenty years dead systems. There hasn't been a cart based system that wasn't portable since the N64!

Based on the toys, I'd say that Star Wars totally blows away pretty much everything else in the known world! They have all scales, detail levels, action oriented, model-esque detailed (and models, of course), super deformed, super articulated..old and new! I LOVE Star Wars toys! The stop motion I do with toys makes Star Wars fit perfectly into my stories. They even have the strongest Lego presence of any character franchise! There are a lot of Star Trek toys, too, but I don't think they have nearly the moichandising presence of SW. Good point! Moichandising..where the REAL money from the movie is made!!!

Imagine a game like Fear Effect, Castlevania: SOTN, or Assaulter on a cartridge! Cartridges last forEVER! Cooling fans go dead, thermal paste dries up, drive motors stop and the cost and power consumption of modern systems is ridiculous! I just watched several interviews concerning this system and it appears to have some pretty hefty backing. It is slated for 2016 and is to have retro controller compatibility as well as the USB controller it comes with. The pack in title, in my opinion, looks very good. It is about a cute little knight that rides different wooden horses and arms himself with several weapons on a quest to defeat a dragon that cooked all the 'taller' knights. I know it's cutesy, but I think my kids and I will like it, and so will the wife. From what I've heard they will try and bring out several standards of games from VCS all the way up to PS1. The ability to put a very large amount of ROM space on a cartridge exists today, so I don't think that big 3D games like, say..Tomb Raider: Last Revelation, or Resident Evil are out of the question. Those licenses may be out, but games that equal them in graphics and gameplay I don't think are too much of a stretch for this. It will probably have some suped up ARM processor (fanless) and cartridges that use internal SD memory. That is my completely off the deep end guess, but that's where I'd go if I were doing something like this. I also believe that this is our chance to buy a system that will last forever and be made in the U.S.A., by Americans!! It is meant to attract retro enthused and will not support WiFi or even connect online! They don't want you to have to download anything, subscribe to anything, or have to upgrade anything! Just like the good old days, when you bought a cart, slapped it in and played all day!! I'm getting it no matter what! I have a good feeling about it and will likely get every cartridge for it that comes out. I hope they put games like Final Fight 3, Phantasy Star, Golden Axe, maybe a Pitfall remake that steps us up just a hair from the VCS, but not to such a great degree of change as was on the 16-bitters. A broad range of styles and the chance for 8 to 32 bit style games makes this system unique as a cartridge player! The only way to get something like that up until now would be emulation on a computer, WiFi or internet downloads with a modern system (sure you can use a 350W system to play Contra!), or something like a JXD handheld. Having a PS1 quality game on a cart would be great! Having a new library of fresh titles that fit the styles of old is alluring! CAN'T WAIT!!

A 'trekker' is just someone who goes on a 'trek'. Any trek. A 'trekkie' is someone who is nuts about something to do with a particular trek, possible a five year one to seek out new life, new civilizations, or perhaps to 'boldly' go where no he/she/it/man/woman/one has gone...befooooooooore. I'm a Trekkie. I don't walk much.

I don't think it's trying to compete with the Retron series in number of carts it will play. I think it's meant to be all new and possibly tack up some rehashes of oldy-goody stuff. Maybe something like Castlevania or Final Fight. If they let homebrew programmers have at it then it could be a great platform for original work! I think it will have it's own carts and will not be compatible with older systems. Being able to have games as good as PS only on a cart makes me think of what the Jaguar could have been if there was cheaper memory in its day. If the carts use internal SD,or micro SD they could have huge games!! I'm on board, regardless!!

Saw the video! KYEEEEEWT! It seems like it would go well along side Fushigi no Yume no Alice and supports a lot of the Wonderland themes. Mushroom size changing, some of the characters and backgrounds. I really like the look of this game! I may get the DC version, as I don't have a Jag CD yet, but it seems well worth it!

If 6 was remade with Ewoks that resembled some of the artists concepts it would be FAR less cutesy! When I saw the original art for the Ewok I would totally believe that they would rip the Empire a new one, no problem! Although I can't seem to find that art online, I know I have it put back somewhere and will take a photo and put it up! They are taller, but hunched down. They had longer, thinner limbs and a much fiercer demeanor.

Star Wars is realistic, Star Trek is optimistic.. ..I could never pick between the two as I love them both, much like my children, equally. Star Trek is a future I would love to participate in, although Star Wars is likely a reasonable past for a massive unfolding universe. I like to think that once Star Trek went dimensional it lost a bit of it's flair, as some may feel about Star Wars when going blue/green screen. I really love everything to do with Star Wars, even Droids and Ewoks. I find that Star Trek the original series and movies are my favorite, followed by TNG with the offshoots trailing. Star Trek Enterprise was so awesome and so short lived. I loved how the the theme song went country after the second season (my wife and I went stupid for that show when it was on Netflix) and how they had an Angelina Jolie clone named Jolene!?! The tension between T'Pol and Trip was palpable! I AM a Jedi, but I also call my home a 'ship' and I'm the captain here on a decades long mission to raise children!?! My family loves both Star Trek and Star Wars!! For every reason I could cite for liking one, a reason to counter balance in favor of the other would appear. I think that a ship with C3PO (Seethreepio, if you're hardcore) crashed near Skywalker Ranch long ago and was found by George and that Star Wars is actually the true history of OUR galaxy! Long, long ago our galaxy WAS far, far away, so there's no reason why it couldn't be our galaxy it's talking about! Also, in the video game (by Lucas Arts) called Maniac Mansion an alien ship crashes near the house at the beginning of the game. The house in the game is modeled after Skywalker Ranch! The home was called the Lucas estate before George Lucas ever bought it!!

Yeah..just some indentation required! No biggie. Just make everything have lots of 'white space' between things (especially the 'edge'). The side is only for 'ends' and 'beginnings'!! Everything else gets at least one space from the side! Neat little startup, though!
-
It's all about spacing, I think. I'm currently making a pretty rad racing game with DPC+ (a few others, too). I've been working with it since it came out and it is really fun! You can run out of space fast with all the higher resolution playfields. The ability to avoid the 'icing' effect and bring the pixel count up is worth it. Many of my games started on the old Bb and have been ported to DPC+. I would have lost a LOT of animation with Titan Axe, though. My second Titan Axe game is DPC+ and uses less badguys but has more color changes and *gasp.. TWO PLAYER COOP!! When using multiple drawcreens to have similar effects on the old system I encountered greater levels of flicker, but, of course, the system is slowed considerably. When I ported one of my games from old to new I had to go in and lengthen all the notes on my musical score because the multiple drawcreens slowed it down so much. With all this control over resolution, this really is a fun way to program.

..and this seemed to fix it completely.. ;*************************************************************** ; ; Sets color of missiles. ; COLUM0 = $FE : COLUM1 = $AC ;*************************************************************** ; ; Object placement. ; player0x = 77 : player0y = 155 player1x = 77 : player1y = 15 player2x = 77 : player2y = player1y + 15 player3x = 77 : player3y = player2y + 15 player4x = 77 : player4y = player3y + 15 player5x = 77 : player5y = player4y + 15 player6x = 77 : player6y = player5y + 15 player7x = 77 : player7y = player6y + 15 player8x = 77 : player8y = player7y + 15 player9x = 77 : player9y = player8y + 15 missile0x = 98 : missile0y = 14 missile1x = 98 : missile1y = 31 ballx = 98 : bally = 48 This makes them all visible and places the 0 sprite at the bottom of the screen..
-
I found that by changing the object placement... ;*************************************************************** ; ; Object placement. ; player0x = 77 : player0y = 0 player1x = 77 : player1y = 20 player2x = 77 : player2y = player1y + 20 player3x = 77 : player3y = player2y + 20 player4x = 77 : player4y = player3y + 20 player5x = 77 : player5y = player4y + 20 player6x = 77 : player6y = player5y + 20 player7x = 77 : player7y = player6y + 20 player8x = 77 : player8y = player7y + 20 player9x = 77 : player9y = player8y + 20 missile0x = 98 : missile0y = 14 missile1x = 98 : missile1y = 31 ballx = 98 : bally = 48 ..to this, eliminates the problem. I believe that sprite 1 is encroaching on the space for the extra sprites by being placed in an odd original distance from the reflected spaces. By making the distances the same they all have an equal space to reflect in. This may be a quick fix, but it works! I just realized it works AFTER the first sprite is moved at least once..

I want this game! It MUST be on a card! HOW MUCH? WHEN? WHERE? Make it so!

I WON!! I got a collar, a s#itter box, a whole cord of rats, a fuji, an animated goblet !?!, lots of other things. The cat appeared to be close several times and I looked and looked and finally found it! After striking it with the bolo at least once, I decided that just chasing it around was probably the best idea. I caught up and then saw a little screen with a giant heart and (AAAAAAHHHCHOOOOOO!)...my cat! FUN!
-
Since it would be too hard to pick just one, I will list the games I still play frequently from them.. 1. Rampage 2. Ghostbusters 3. Commando 4. Kung Fu Master 5. Space Shuttle I guess Rampage would be my favorite, but it's such a close tie with Ghostbusters I couldn't say it's a definite. I play Commando and Kung Fu Master regularly and Space Shuttle still has a lot of shock appeal for me. Double Dragon (7800) would be in there if I felt this was a 7800 topic, but I really don't like the 2600 version.

I really love Ms. Pacman in hearts mode.. My favorite Pacman for the 2600 is Pacman 8K

..and I just made it so you can fall off of the giant eagles back!!

Here is our original prototype cabinet. It housed a AMD Athlon 600mHz with a 3DFX Voodoo 3500 (later upgraded to a ATi 9200) and SB Live!! Primarily for emulation, it could also be great for PC games like Gex: Enter the Gecko, Unreal, Sin, Starshot and many other 3DFX specific titles. This led to our building of seven other cabinets with similar designs, the adding of marquees, front art, pinball buttons, and control panel upgrades and graphics. It is now black with face art, a marquee, a 2.7G PC linked up to a modded XBOX (original). The computer is actually what I use to program with! It uses an I-PAC keyboard enumerator with an XBOX adapter and has been upgraded to an HD screen. It also has the right side wired to an Atari stick PCB that is then fed through an Atari 1040STE that is also in the cabinet, ready for Automation compilation disks. I really love listening to the music and looking at the graphics on those old Automation disks!

"We're sorry, but your pussy is in another castle!!" Gone are the days when you get your cat out of a tree! Now he's lost in an endless labyrinth!! I like the gameplay. The animation has variety and there are lots of cool little items to get (including a replacement cat!).. He's really shucking when he runs and the rooms are very well made. I like the overhanging doorways. Cool game!!
-
You could always pi$$ off the cat and throw it on something!?! That would be a GREAT concept for a shooter! Razzed animals, fruit (ToeJam & Earl), tornado in a can, and my personal favorite, the auto-depantser!! Okay.. now I'll try the game..

I'll always love the ability to stand up and play, as it doesn't promote laziness. CRT looks really great to me. It seems far clearer than modern televisions, in my opinion. There are a lot of bars around that are using arcades from old as their theme! I considered going to one, but play privately in a mini arcade that my wife and I put together. Maybe there was a 'sad' vibe at the place that helped to 'repulse' you? This is one of the places I might like to visit.. http://16-bitbar.com/columbus Here is one of the main reasons I left modern arcades.. ..I really liked games like Terminator and Operation Wolf, but I just couldn't get into Friction and a lot of the more modern games kinda seemed newfangled to me.

No Zombie game? I shall make a Zombie game for the VCS. It will not be the awesome sauce of this project, but I will do my best and dedicate it to Pacmanplus, one of the BEST Atari programmers that ever was or will be!! Please get that stuff locked down and come back! I've been bashed here too and have considered leaving and just sticking to programming in my corner. Please remember, most of the complainers DON'T KNOW or DO jack CRAAAAP! (they know how to attack with words from the safety of a keyboard, but that's about it!) You're the best and we need more like you here!!
