  1. oh - there are definitely advantages to s-video, no doubts. it depends entirely on the TV you're using, but it can definitely be better. my point was more about the fact that many TV manufacturers have dropped S-video entirely as the default legacy video input. It's much harder to find newer TVs with S-video now.
  2. Also, I have no idea what happened here. Either my fingers tried to invent a new word, or my brain is having compatibility issues with my keyboard. I think I need new firmware.
  3. as to this specifically - they aren't compatible with Concerto 100% either. no Pokey sound. That's not so much a design issue on Concerto's end, since Ballblazer, Commando. Froggie, Pac-MAn Collection Pokey, etc. all work fine with Concerto. I was trying to see if there was some common ground with those games pokey imprelentation, rather than a 7800 compatibility issue or concerto design hiccup.
  4. Totally true. I think maybe some of the issues with concerto are somewhere related to design, but it was designed with trying to keep cost as low as possible. IT would suck if more expensive components or a redesign were needed to get it behaving properly.
  5. The is not entirely accurate. CC2 went through a thorough testing/beta round before it was sold, and it still isn't 100% compatible with some of the newer homebrews, though that could likely be resolved with new banking scheme files. the Mateos cart isn't compatible with the current version of Bentley and DKXM roms that are floating around the forums. it requires alternate versions, from what I hear. The XM still isn't released because of compatibility issues. There are definitely more compatibility problems with Concerto than the others, for sure. But in general, the 7800 is a fickle beast with several variations of difficult behavior.
  6. You need to have Custom Firmware installed on your PS3 to do it. There are dozens of flavors of it. Which means you would have needed to own a PS3 that came with Official Firmware version 3.55 or earlier, and would have needed to have installed a Custom Firmware then, before you upgraded to OFW 3.56. If you've upgraded your PS3 past 3.55 (or you bought one that came with Firmware newer than 3.55) - you can't run emulators, or game backups, or Linux, or anything else that Custom Firmware allows. Well - there are hardware downgrader devices, but they require microscopic surface mount soldering and are really expensive. Might be cheaper to just buy a CFW PS3 or pre-3.55 PS3 off ebay. If by some lucky chance your PS3 is at or below Firmware 3.55 - this should help: http://psx-scene.com/forums/f118/how-jailbreak-custom-firmware-your-ps3-consoles-4-easy-steps-104025/ if not, look here: http://psx-scene.com/forums/f263/ultimate-fool-proof-guide-ps3-hardware-downgrading-104398/
  7. I have not seen this. Once the menu loads, it's good for me. The only crashing I have seen is on boot up, where after the flashing concerto text/logo I get just nothing, or colored vertical bars and a whining noise appear. a reboot usually fixes it the first time. but this is maybe one in 20 boot ups without pokey installed, and 1 in 5 boot ups with pokey installed. As mentioned before, the only in-game crashes I've seen are with Alien Brigade and BasketBrawl (with No Pokey). With Pokey in - crashes happen more frequently on the supergame carts, including Ninja Golf, Midnight Mutants, etc. again - it might be my pokey chip, so I will rule that out this week when my tester arrives.
  8. I beleive it's technically possible, but no one has written a proper dynarec for it to work with the PS3's RISC/RSX chipset Same with 3D0. Nobody has ported FreeD0 to PS3 yet. IT exists in Retroarch, but they haven't ported that core yet.
  9. well - Neither the above "fixed" Bentley rom, nor the DKXM rom produce any sound when pokey is attached on my concerto. However, it might be a bad pokey on my end. I have a test/loaner known good working pokey on the way to rule that out, so I will report back when that surfaces. The games themselves play just fine, however, just silent. Bentley is awesome, but it's like NES Battletoads hard, though!
  10. They aren't. I get no bad sectors on the integrity test when POKEY isn't plugged in. All Green, every time.
  11. I guess I'm the only weirdo here who does it on a PS3. I have a CFW PS3 slim, and with Retroarch, and a few other one-off emulation homebrews, I can flawlessly play games from all of these consoles: MAME FBAlpha Atari 2600 Intellivision Colecovision Atari 7800 NES SMS Sega Genesis SNES Sega CD NEO GEO Turbografx /CD Sony PS1 Sony PS2 (not completely flawless, but most games run) and it has really nice Bluetooth controllers. and it does 1080p video. as much as PC emulation may be more flexible, it's nice to sit on the couch, with a native BT gamepad, and play every game for nearly every system created before PS3. (X-box series, N64 and 3D0 noted as not possible)
  12. I run Sega CD emulation through RetroArch on my PS3, and it's flawless.
  13. Is there a fixed version of the DK XM for Pokey sound as well? I will try this bentley rom tonight. Thanks!
  14. None of the memory blocks turned red on any integrity tests I ran. I ran it three times. But regardless of that test the few problem games are still not running properly - specifically Alien Brigade and Basketbrawl. They work on one of my 7800s but not the other. Also b*nQ doesn't run at all, on any console. This is without pokey installed.
  15. this test had no effect on my 7800. Problem roms are still a problem after running the integrity test for 15 minutes.
  16. its not slander. The only 2 events I know of that it was shown at was prge, last year, and some basement show in the U.K. once, 5 years ago just before GB Abandonded it. I've played XM games and demos too... in emulation. And in my concerto.
  17. You know this for a fact? We know he collected thousand$ in pre-order sales. We have no idea how much was spent on actual XM hardware, or not. As far as we've physically seen, there has only been one prototype shown at a Classic Game show years ago.
  18. why? There isn't a single game or software in existence or even proposed that would use anything but extra ram and pokey. XM was a swindle.
  19. Well, that would be just plain awesome. Cool!
  20. Ah - but see there's my same problem. I believe my POKEY might be damaged, because I used a heat gun to de-solder it from it's Ballblazer board. I don't have a de-soldering iron to do the job properly - so I was hoping someone had a spare loose one where there wouldn't be risk of damage from trying to remove it from a BB board. Thanks for the offer though, I do appreciate it!
  21. speaking of swapping equipment for testing, does anyone have a spare known working POKEy chip they would be willing to send me to rule out mine being bad? I'm not opposed to buying a new one, but I'd hate to waste $25 on something for the same result.
  22. I would be fine with sending in one of mine. I have a Stock, no video modded, timing circuit present console I could send if he needs. Fred - PM me if this would be helpful. I will also provide a list of Rom compatibility I have seen with my concerto.
  23. i have two 7800s with the timing circuit. One with it intact, and one with the capacitor removed. Concerto compatibility is the same on both. Beef Drop and Moon Cresta work fine on Both. Beef Drop only has an issue if I have Pokey installed. Without it, it runs fine, and with POKEY installed, it runs fine after I load it twice. Both of these Consoles have an issue with Alien Brigade and Basketbrawl not loading from Concerto. But those are the only commercial 7800 games not to run. Both of those games run fine from concerto on my older, non-timing circuit present 7800. But that one has bigger issues with power/pokey installed.
  24. If it turns out this is the fix - is it feasible to retro-fit existing concertos with the better-performing chips? Mine has been pretty much good, except when POKEY is installed, so I don't know if it will help, but I was just curious.
