Right monitor cable for Atari 800.
RetroGamer2003 replied to RetroGamer2003's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Oh and this is completely random, but on Sunmarks site.. Some of the games are marked with an asterisk meaning "For 400/800". I'm assuming that these particular games only work with the 400/800 (w/out the translation disk), instead of it meaning that these games are the only ones on the cartridge that will function on the 400/800. -
Right monitor cable for Atari 800.
RetroGamer2003 replied to RetroGamer2003's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Thanks, so would this be the kind of genny cable that would work? -
I found an item on MyAtari, "CAA006 CABLE MONITOR COLR Atari CX89 10.00 Composite & Audio". Will this work with the Atari 800 with a TV that has a composite/RCA inputs (red/white/yellow). I'm guessing that there would only be two leads because of the mono sound. Also am I correct in the fact that the 800 will play all software titles that are 48k and lower? Thanks!

Hey guys. I have an Atari 800, and I am thinking about getting the 1010 recorder. Now, I know it's pretty slow, and that it may just not be worth it, but tapes are easier to get a hold of (like at Wal-Mart) and it seems pretty cool that you can record on to cassettes. I saw a new one for say at MyAtari, so I imagine it would be all be working and stuff. Okay, now, I'm not completely sure about it all sure I have a few questions. 1. How do I save a BASIC program to it? 2. How do I load a BASIC program from it? 3. Is it possible to get cassette data from the internet in audio form, and then record it to a tape via audio cassette recorder? 4. Any other cons than the ones I just mentioned? Thanks, nice board btw.

Yeah, even in Microsoft Word, it has some international characters in it which I feel aren't supposed to be there. -

It works okay when I list it to a file, but notepad just doesn't recognize some of the characters... -

THANK-YOU SOOO MUCH!!! It turned out I was just using the emulator "Atari800", but now everthing works with Atari800win Plus 3.1!! Now I can convert .bas to .txt and test out some games on the real thing!!! -

I can't seem to get to that screen, the only thing I can access is from the "F1" menu, and that doesn't have the option I need on it. Even pressing ALT-e won't work...Hmm. -

I am using version 1.3, and under the H: Drive option, there is only an option for a printer. -

That command to save the basic file to text didn't work for me. LIST "H:"FILENAME.TXT".... I tried many different variations, but none worked. So what's the command, everything else besides that worked though!! -

Well, is there any Basic games that I can find on the internet? I just mean the written form, not the ".BAS" files. I don't care how long they are, I just need something to play with so I can try to understand things more efficiently. Thanks! -

So, now what accessories should I get? I was thinking the 1010 program recorder, or maybe even the prgram recorder for the XE, but, then again, they'll all work on my 800 all the same probably. Maybe AtariWriter? What programs use the touch tablet? and are they pretty cool to use? Also, I need to find a guide to Atari BASIC, or learn LOGO instead... -

Yeah, it was only 50 CAD, and came in box, but without instuctions. I looked around and bought BASIC, Atari Logo (what is this?), Typo Attack, and Robotron: 2084.... There was also a commodore monitor, and I wasn't sure if I should've gotten it. I didn't have the monitor cable though...So, right now, I am just going to use it with a small television, which I think will have the same effect. -

You know, something really funny just happened to me. I was going to get a comp over the internet, but, I went to the flea market first, and there, I FOUND AN ATARI 800 WITH 48K RAM!!! So, it may not be as good as "refurbished" or "new", but, I am going to have a lot of fun cleaning it up. Wish me luck guys!! -

ooo, this thread is getting pretty big. I just want to confirm some things. Are you guys sure that the 1010 will work with the 800? Also, I was thinking of getting either a light pen, or touch tablet, what opinions do you guys have about these peripherals? -

THANKS SO MUCH GUYS, I REALLY GOT A LOT OF INFO!! Okay, to last questions for tonight, does the 1010 work with the 800, and are 60 minute audio cassettes okay to use? Or should they be mae especially for data? (I am suggesting 60 min, because If I DO get an 800 it will have 48k) -

Like is there a way how I can write a document, and save it to cassette and load it later? Or save over other things in this kind of fasion? What about that Atari Writer cart? -

Also, if I just wanted to go out to the store and get a blank audio cassette, do you think it would be suitable to record onto. BTW, how DO you save things? I don't mean programs, I just mean like things with the wordpad (if possible). Thanks again. -

All I want to know is if I can use a 410/1010 with a 800 without a BASIC cart to play tape games -

RetroGamer2003 replied to RetroGamer2003's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Hmm, are you sure about it? I thought the built-in basic was first built into the 600XL, not the 800... -

RetroGamer2003 replied to RetroGamer2003's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Well, the 800 is looking more appealing, but I heard that a lot of them have broken keys or something. Do you think the stores I mentioned would sell these kind of units? Oh, and I really don't mind waiting for something to load, as long as it will load. I think the reason why I like the cassette drive so much is because to me it is very unusual and I find it unique and cool. If the 410 has flaws or something, would the 1010 be a better choice? Will the 1010 even work on an 800? Also, I was asking before if the BASIC cart was neccessary for tape games. Like, could I just hook up a 410/1010 via the serial port, rewind the tape, hold start and turn on the system without the BASIC cart in it? Thanks again guys! -
HEY!!! I've been coming here for years, but, I decided to sign up for the forums!!! Anyway, my 800XLs keyboard is kinda messed, so I have decided to get a new Atari Computer!! So, where should I get one? I was thinking either myatari.com, or atarisales.com, and other sites? I was thinking either a 600XL, because no one likes them, and I thought I might give it a chance. Or, I was thinking of getting the 800, because it's just kinda cool. Okay, now, I have some Q's: -Is 48k sufficient enough to run the majority of good games and programs? -Can games on tape run without basic? I heard you just have to press START at startup and then it will just load, or is basic just for SAVING things onto tapes? -Are tape decks bad to get? -Can ordinary audioa cassettes be used for saving things to? -What joystick should I get? Standard? 7800 joypad? Thanks in advance!
