  1. HHNG! PADDLE CONTROLLERS! So frustrating!

They're the best invention EVER! Now, NES gamepads ... THAT's frustrating.

NES Gamepads don't mess up as much as Paddles do. NES controllers are solid in my experience.

Atari 5200 joysticks are the definition of frustrating.

  2. Oh, this is the WORST part about it! Cleaning Paddle controllers! The first challenge was getting them free from the tangled wire monster in my closet. I got one out. Cleaned those out. Now the console flickers when the paddles are plugged in. Luckily, I have a spare set of paddles and they work perfectly. Still a bit weird, though. I've never seen that behavior before. how much power is being sent to these controllers?
  3. LADYBUGS EVERYWHERE! They won't leave me alone! Jeez!

My folks used to get them all the time at their house. They don't suck as much as elm beetles.. or spiders..

We had an infestation of pumpkin ladybugs in our house one summer. I had to help get them off the ceiling with a broom.

There were a lot of them last year in the Czech Republic, but they are useful to my grandma because they eat the plant lice in her garden

  4. Oh, I hear that. Both are pretty clean now. I'm going to look for my Aerial RF /Coax plug later today. I bought one a while back but never got around to using it. those switchboxes are so annoying! Glad to be back, though!
  5. Looks like I won't get a Harmony cart since I can't prove it's legit. Sigh.

Here was the problem: I couldn't convince dad that the creator of it wouldn't charge for firmware updates and all this other mumbo jumbo. I had to show him that I had all the pieces needed to even use the thing, and this still wasn't enough until mom said that I haven't had a lick of fun all year. That was all it took.

  6. Okay, There are still some white sparkles that pop up when I activate switches. I only do this in Starmaster. Is that something to worry about? I don't remember this behavior before.
  7. Yeah. So I gave up on it. I'm using my "non-used" one now. I found out what the ghosting was. It was the signal being a little weak and my TV trying to correct it. Simply put, this TV was putting a lot of post-processing on the signal. it's amazing I was seeing anything in the first place. Thank you, Samsung. I simply need a new RF connector. I tested this theory by plugging my NES into the switch and it was just as ghosty as the Atari. I should still clean it up though, just in case. I do like that the NES and the Atari use the same connector!
  8. Oh man, is my digger hack in here? nope! I'll get right on findin' that. EDIT: lost in the forums move. bummer.
  9. I'm just going to admit it now: I was a teenager once that had no idea of value or that treating stuff badly would soon make them look bad or lost. So this holiday season I cleaned up the house, found all my 2600 carts strewn about. seriously, I was 5 minutes away from being on an episode of Hoarders, but I turned around! Now I'm in the process of cleaning up. with the help of a psychologist, I can now determine what is trash and what isn't. All souveniers I never looked at? Gone. Game systems? Cleaned up and stored. I can't let myself do this again. I was literally killing myself in trash. Now that I got that aired out. I can actually sit down and clean my systems. I have one mint-condition system, sans heavy dust, but my 2nd system has seen better days. I'm going to attempt a cleanup. Dust and mites, moths and other junk got in it, and it just looks horrible. I'll post an image when I have the thing cleaned up. Ok, the first pic is my loot. Since I half-assed cared for these games, labels have fallen off. mostly parker brothers ones. I do have a space invaders missing a label. Oh well. My river raid looks like absolute crap. like, not even Harvey Dent looked this bad. On the other hand, I've already cleaned one of my consoles before I posted this (it was pretty much perfect anyway) and it shines! 2nd pic is of that console. He's not heavy, but he's still my brother.
  10. Can a mod move my last topic? I made a booboo.

  11. EDIT: SIGH. Opera messed me up, I thought I posted in the main forum. Can a mod move this thread to 2600 General? THANKS. My parents surprised me with a new LED TV (replacing my 20 year old CRT monster, thanks!) and an AC adaptor for my Atari 2600! Finally, I can dust it off and start playing again! Then I realized how poorly I treated my stuff when I was a teenager, and I'm starting to clean everything up (cleaning paddle pots, joysticks, console, etc) This might turn into a "help me fix it" thread, but I don't care. I have two 2600s, both from Pizitz department store. one was a unit behind glass (so it wasn't touched), the other was an open unit that has "DEMO UNIT" red sticker. It also has red paint instead of orange, although I think that's typical from the Taiwan factory units. Anyway, the first 2600 I have (the open one) has a very finicky power switch. it was switched on and off every day for months in a store full of grubby-handed kids, so I'm amazed it's held up this much. It's also the one I ripped all the shielding off to replace it once (and cut myself BADLY doing so). The second 2600 is the dream unit, not a scratch, or a problem... EXCEPT some weird ghosting. I expect it's always been this way, but certain colors (like blue) will ghost really bad. Yars revenge title screen on boot is really mushy looking, but everything else is fine. Is this just NTSC being an abomination to the planet, or is this something I can fix? I think it might be a number of things, from my old Computer/Antenna switchbox to the fact that this thing is 5 years older than I am. I want to be sure that I'm not missing anything. Note that this is the ONLY problem with the unit. there is no static in the signal whatsoever, not even an occasional stray white dot.
  12. That's a Panasonic Digital Camera cable. You had to use a program called PhotoMax to extract photos, until they rigged up a TWAIN driver.
  13. Brushed steel is coming back, too. in fact, my dad just renovated the kitchen, and it's brushed steel/chrome look. that's FROM THE 1950s! Trends don't really die anymore, they just circulate. The "all black" trend defined the 2000's and early 2010s, it's time to put some color back!
  14. LOL at all the people wanting to Secede from the US. Whiners!

  15. Can someone tell me why the GPL was so bad? I have no problems with it.

      Who says it's bad?

      Csonicgo

I had an argument with a coder that claimed it stops others from using GPL code since software using it must also comply.

  17. WAKE UP, WAKE UP, WAKE UP, IT'S THE FIRST OF THE MONTH

  18. From what I've seen concerning SDL on Android, Pain, pain, pain. It's so damn slow and choppy (even on recent RAZRs and Galaxy phones) that the DOSBOX port can't even play ZZT properly (and that's a TEXT-BASED game!) I have a very love-hate relationship with SDL, as in: I love to hate it.
