  1. Augh. I'm torn on this. On one hand, I find it preposterous that I would need a Core i7 to play a 1 Mhz CPU emulator to play a game on. On the other hand, I love accuracy and the lack of it kills games (Like Kool-Aid Man).
  2. As a guy who loved CV I and III I hope these don't disappoint.
  3. That's exactly what I felt about it. I suppose Nintendo were getting paranoid about selling games in the west, since Atari had left a bad taste in the public's mouth. I can understand that, but not the butchering/redoing the hardware to keep third-party developers out of the game (unless they talked with NOA first)
  4. I've always been interested in the various differences between the NES and Famicom, and most of the reasons for NOA doing this never satisfy me. I've heard everything from Piracy to "keeping ET away", obviously in reference to the cart that "caused the 1983 crash" (but that is debatable too). In the long run, I've read that a lot of titles weren't released for the NES - or retooled completely, simply because of the NES redesign, and part of it was the loss of "extension pins" - they were moved to the bottom of the unit. As a result, any games using special chips had to be butchered or recoded for US markets. This seems really silly in retrospect, economically. Plus, I would hate to know that my magnum opus for the Famicom, if I had programmed a game for it, would have to be butchered to work on a console which design changes were, in hindsight, really really silly to do, in my opinion. Then again I look at Wolfenstein 3D and then Doom for the SNES and wonder what went wrong. I've always enjoyed Akumajou Densetsu for the Famicom. I had never played the NES version, and have ordered it online this week. From what I've played in an emulator... Dracula's Curse feels hollow. It's weird to describe it that way, as the gameplay seems to be fine (it's not really changed much other than some monster behavior and the jumping isn't quite right) but everything else seems to be diluted. Does anyone think Nintendo's idea of radically changing their hardware through the different regions was a good idea at the time? For a collector like me, it makes some titles impossible to get. Luckily, I was able to get a Famicom/NES converter cart that let me play US games. my friends had no such luxury. (Was I just spoiled for having a Famicom as a child while everyone else had a grey VCR? ) Is there anything else I'm missing? And if you were NOA: would you have authorized this?
  5. I have an NES Advantage arcade stick with a broken 1st player connector. Is there any hope of resurrecting the first player slot? The 2nd player connector works fine, which is fine in 1-player situations, but I'd like to have it 100% working. Has anyone here repaired/cleaned one and can tell me how to take this thing apart and what to look for? Much Thanks! EDIT: can someone move this to hardware? THANKS!
  6. My Cousin forced me to watch My Little Pony. AND I LIKED IT HELP ME

It's fun to replace the words "My Little Pony" with Tia Leoni when singing the theme song.

" My Little Pony - Satan's Newest Recruitment Vehicle" OH man I laughed so hard at that one line.

  7. People used to joke about NTSC but ... wow. SECAM just doesn't play well at all.
  8. VS2005 can compile for win95 if you hack the EXE not to look for IsDebuggerPresent. Also VC6 will work perfectly (if Stella 2 still compiles in it)
  9. The only thing that ticks me off is that on Asteroids, I can't see the score on the 5th or 6th digit.
  10. Heh, the problem is that I think 2.x series used VS2008 or something to compile, which win95 can't use without some hacking.
  11. well shoot. I've noticed it only happens when I'm not playing, so maybe It'll be ok for now.
  12. notice that Atari wanted family to PLAY TOGETHER. what happened was that parents suddenly saw that it made a quick compulsory entertainment fix for kids and turned it into a virtual babysitter. how'd that turn out? Well, somehow I made it okay.
  13. LOL! Beat Em and Eat Em? is that the one where....uhh nevermind the description, I know what game you're talking about. Had no idea that was for paddle controllers. Did someone make a hack of that to make it less adult, or was that another adult game? I actually love night driver because it's fun to play at night when you can't sleep. That happens a lot these days.
  14. Apologies in advance if this thread has been done but I've always wanted to do a thread like this, and a General thread gave me the idea. Are there any games for the 2600 that scared you as a child? Aside from the games that are SUPPOSED to scare you, are there any games that unintentionally still give you the creeps? As a kid, I was scared of the progressive game mode of Super breakout. i always had a fear of impending doom, and falling blocks at a steady pace really scared me more than anything. now I find it a great challenge. Games that still creep me out. Ski Run by Ariola. Where do I even start? The creepy egyptian-sounding music, the creepy looking death dance, the ever-changing colors of the mountains... It's like a really bad LSD trip.
  15. For years I've been wondering if this was possible. even wiht some mockup screens I created. THANK YOU!
  16. Not to start a tempest in a teapot but... Who here actually plays or has played the more intellectually stimulating 2600 Titles? I mean such games like Backgammon, Casino, Euchre, Bridge, Checkers, Chess, etc. Which ones are your favorites and were these games actually helpful in practising your skills? I really would like to get into these games (espeically Video chess and Activision Bridge) but to be honest, to a person who rarely plays games like these (especially Bridge) the games can be almost cryptic. If you have any pointers on playing some of these games (especially Bridge, since the manual had nothing on how to play, and Euchre's manual was kind of confusing) Thanks!
  17. PCAE "works" but it can't play any recent homebrews that I've tried. Bummer. I guess I can look at the Z26 source code when I get the chance. Heh, back when I left the Atari community for a while, DOS was still supported. I suppose everyone dropped it in 2006 when 9x finally died, huh?
  18. I really wish I could get into the mind of a Japanese videogame company and its suits, but I just can't. It's funny how I can predict what American/European companies will do with a hot piece of IP like Star Fox is But with Nintendo they seem to not get it.
  19. have an idea of a really cool 2600 conversion of SNES Jurassic park. Taking out the 3D elements, leaving the overworld. Sounds Doable.

  20. Well, I remember Virtua Racing for the Genesis that used a special Chip like the SuperFX chip. I don't know if it counts, but the chip would get REALLY HOT! it hurt to touch the cart after a while of playing it.
  21. Have repros been made of this? If so, I will have to see about getting one, too! Was the game actually completed, or is it in a mostly-finished state? or worse? Admittedly I never did do much research on this game. I've heard that it was ACTUALLY FINISHED, but since SNES was dying in Japan, it was never really put to production, and left to stay dead on the shelf until someone found it, dumped it, and sneakily leaked it onto the internet. Whoever that was, I thank them, it's great and the translation really is good that's out there now.
  22. Compiling Z26 for Cygwin is a pain in my ass.

  23. Star FOX space levels were great since you felt helpless in a huge fight in first person mode. on the N64 they really turned this up a notch. I really recommend playing this on a big stereo too, the stereo effects are great!
  24. Sorry for the double-post bump, but what about PCAE? is it updated any more? I hear it still has a DOS version. EDIT: trying to go to their site, my AV kicked in and blocked it saying it had some malicious code. Whoopsie!
