  1. You've inspired me, rather than order connectors, I've just torn apart the DVI cable, and it looks like a fairly simple job to whack-off a gender changer. (I think that's how EEVblog would state it.)
  2. I didn't think about that, it would need to a very short DVI cable, or a gender changer, or swapping out the little board hanging off the Sophia. Or perhaps a lot of soldering fine wires.
  3. The Monoprice audio+DVI to HDMI combiner arrived, and works beautifully. Not only is there no detectible latency (It's probably not doing much in the way of conversion) but it also inexplicably fixed a problem where my HDMI monitor would blank out occasionally with the raw Sophia signal.
  4. Saved a lot of money by buying this broken Spectrum. As long as it isn't a bad ULA they are pretty easy to fix, and this one just had a bad RAM chip.

  6. Looks like Monoprice has an Earthday discount code, so I pulled the trigger, I'll find out if there's much stick latency in 3-6 days... of shipping latency.
  7. It seems many Spectrums had 3904 transistors installed backwards, messing up the composite output. Could be the same here?
  8. I replaced, or more accurately overlaid, tact switches in place of the rubber buttons, in a Lynx 1, making it much more playable.
  9. I realized that I have gathered a small pile of chargers and batteries for those old, "worthless" <12Mp point-and-shoot cameras, so I hit on the notion that they would be a great way to power handhelds, by installing the batteries and chargers as one piece inside the battery compartment. Here's some examples where it works well.

  11. From last month's Akihabra haul: The floppy plugs into the cartridge slot, and doesn't seem to allow passthrough to run the Basic language cart. Is there a way to save or load from disk Basic programs? Perhaps there is a different version of Basic that runs from disk? (I gather there is a tape option, but that can't be the only option.

  13. The sign outside TRU said "30% off everything in store" and another said "nothing held back" and of course, in tiny print "exceptions apply" All electronics were only 5% off, not even covering taxes. I for one welcome our new Amazonian overlords.

    Rotary phone

I found a Ma Bell rotary, put a usb sound card in it, and an arduino to ring the phone. I then used it to call into users in my VR game, in the game the user can see and hear a virtual rotary (it takes place in the 1960's) and the user can also initiate a call from VR, hence the ringer function. Here's a photo for no particular reason.
  15. Those are pictures of my Adam! I added the SD extension, and velcroed it inside, making it easy to access by popping the lid, but otherwise neatly hidden.
