(Hardware) Project of the 'calendar quarter'
towmater replied to Omega-TI's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
Printing this at 3.2 inches in length and sticking it to the cpu really helped insure the correct pins were used. Also, I picked a GND pin on the same side as the data pins, instead of the opposite side as the instructions showed, so that I wouldn't have to solder a wire under the new board. -

I gather it depends on what you wan to do with it. In my case I just wanted to run existing software like the XB cart, but if you have a need for 1Mb, more power to you. -

Sorry, flubbed that. Search for "Ti-99/4A 32K Ram rev 2" -

M'kay, calendar quarter is over. What's the next project? -
I would describe it as "could be better", but that would involve a much more sophisticated conversion method, so it gets points for just working.

It's good! All credit to Tursi. If you want to order, search on Osh Park for: "TI/99-4A 32 Ram rev 2" -

OK, phew, it's a good thing Osh Park makes you order three boards minimum, my second attempt at this seemed to go without a hitch. The main difference this time is that I used 22-gauge solid wire instead of braided ide hard drive wires. If I don't see any crashes or hiccups in the next few hours after I put the case together, I'll post a link to the Osh Park project page if anyone wants to do it themselves. Their prices were pretty reasonable and delivery was only a week or so. -

Urf, I fail the Corcomp Test, which is, I believe, a modified Voight-Kampf. As you can see it hit the 32k ram's starting address and immediately quit. I have quad-triple checked the wiring, and tested continuity on all, it looks fine. I guess I will do an identical installation on a second TI-99 and see if I get the same results, but unless I am missing something, I can't fathom what's wrong. -
I did do this, the HDMI signal included a lot of digitized rf noise and artifacts, basically giving me the same quality output as composite, only now in digital form.

Digi Key and Osh Park deliveries arrived today. Looks like I have a weekend project to install. -

I'm assuming the Lynx plays into this story.

I did the mod to a Gotek using tonmann's info, but as specified, there are only two compatible versions of the floppy controller IC, and my 1040 didn't have one, it had an older WDC "00-02" I read that one can now purchase the Lotharek firmware to put on a Gotek, but has anyone found whether the same issue of ST floppy controller IC version exists if this alternate firmware is used?

I've ordered this revision from Osh Park, $21 for qty 3. If it works properly, I'll hit the project's "Start sharing" button on their website so that anyone can order. Amazon sent a delivery estimate on the ram chip of Jan 30, so I gather that it ships from China, I'll check Burbank Electronics City in the meantime to see if I can get one faster as I'm sure I don't want to wait that long. (Edit: I just found out they're out of business.) -

I think I might have followed that correctly, though I'm not sure which of the two resistor values to use (I'm guessing the 1K.) I will go with this layout then: -

I put a standard wall-wart dc jack next to the joystick ports, and wired the psu outputs directly to the original psu's input (so that original jack still works as well.) I wanted it to be minimally invasive. I use a beefy 1V 3A laptop power brick to supply voltage.

I put one of these under my A500's floppy drive. No noise, no problems using it so far. Bad idea? It seems too good to be true. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HLCT9HK
