  1. I have nothing to ask, I just want to express my immense gratitude for this. You're spending so many hours for us !! That's so generous of you, because I'm sure there is a huge difference between the number of downloads and the numbers of "thank you" you receive. This is my best Xmas present this year, no competition. Last but not least, this is simply the best emulator. Period.
  2. Dear Caterpiggle, We all have our favourite emulators and maybe Altirra is not the one for you? Have you tried other emulators? Atari800 Win Plus? Atari 800? Rainbow? Wiz-Atari? Other? Perhaps another emulator would suit your habits and preferences better? Another possibility: the Altirra source code is also available. If you are a developer, you could also consider making the changes you want yourself? Personally, I'm very grateful to @phaeron for the hundreds of hours of work -- maybe more? -- that went into creating this free Altirra emulator. So my opinion is biased because I have been a fan of Altirra for many years: I cannot recommend an alternative. If it were possible, I would be delighted to be able to pay - and pay dearly - for this Altirra emulator which I find admirable. But I really understand that it doesn't fit your needs. If you find another great alternative emulator, don't hesitate to share the information with us. Have a nice day,
  3. Hi Guys! In this "ZIP" files you will find the files listed below with CRC32 I believe all the files you're looking for are there Sorry, it should be sorted and organised properly. 4. @phaeron Thank you SO MUCH for this!!
  5. Thanks a lot for considering the option. It might sound great to have this real/authentic experience. Because, "back in those days" we could hear both the physical keyboard sound PLUS the Atari OS keyclick sound... Don't hesitate to tell if I can help with sound samples. I'll be happy to.
  6. Dear @phaeron, Can I respectfully ask what you think about my suggestion (see previous message, above) to add actual keyboard sounds in Altirra? Thank you
  7. For a personal website, I created some videos with Altirra recently. It's perfect, without technical complications and really handy to illustrate a technical point with a nice video. But I thought to myself: you can't hear the keys! What a pity! Quel dommage ! Hence a suggestion for a future version of Altirra: would it be possible to add - as an option & with a separate volume control - the noise of the keys (keyboard, switches) produced by a real computer? As a test, I quickly recorded with my iPhone the noise produced by a 800XL with an ALPS keyboard (the best of the five keyboards available). There is no need to use hundreds of audio files. For each model of computer requiring a unique set of sound samples, you have to take the variation with the best keyboard, that's all. Who wants to hear the sound of bad keyboards? For computers, separate sound samples are required for: Atari 400 (yes, that membrane thing is a keyboard) Atari 800 Atari 1200XL (probably the best keyboard, BTW) Atari 600XL/800XL (the same set of sounds) Atari 65XE/130XE/800XE (the same set of sounds) Atari XEgs For keys & switches, separate sound samples are required for: Power on switch Standard keyboard keys (same sound for all of them) Space Return Tab Shift Help/Start/Select/Option (same sound for all of them) Reset Keys specific to the Atari 1200XL (F1, Invert/ex-Atari, etc…) If the idea is accepted, I can easily provide all the necessary sound sample files. I have a good quality Tascam audio recorder & all the necessary Atari computer models. Sounds of Atari 800XL with ALPS keyboard.flac
  8. Some tests are needed and I want to give you a factual, correct answer. More on this when I test with a PAL computer and its colour pot adjustment. To be continued...
  9. First of all, it is important to emphasize that the first broadcast television system -- NTSC -- laid the foundation for PAL. It should be remembered that in both NTSC & PAL, two consecutive lines have the same colour. Unlike NTSC, the PAL colour burst signal has a defined phase that alternates between 135° and 225°. Apart from their natural frequencies and the alternating phase, these systems do not differ in anything. With PAL, a shift in phase will result in a little more R-Y on one line and a little less R-Y on the next line. (note that same logic applies to B-Y). The human eye will not be able to make the difference and an average colour that corresponds to the original PAL vector will be visible (unlike NTSC)
  10. Dear @phaeron, Once again, thank you very much for this new version, now the 4.10! I don't buy much software anymore but this is exactly the kind of software I would buy with great pleasure. I know your constraints for a donation... but, well, until then: - how can we express our gratitude for all this work for so long? - how can we help? It's not fair because it's always the same way: you work, we benefit. Ask us for something...
  11. That would be me. I was 13yo when I got my PAL 800XL + 1010 in May 1984 (FNAC, Lille, France), and then the 1050 6 months later, on Xmas. My parents had a bit of patience to drive me to Lille - remember, at the time, few visionary people understood what computers could be used for at home - but driving 6 hours to Paris (to & back) for that, it's not even something I would ask for... So, no add-ons, no third-party disk drives, no upgrade kits, no replacement ROMs, nothing but what Atari "officially" had for sale. (I now have several 1050 with french silver stickers. Mine (from back in the days) is either this one, or another one with a silver sticker on the side, and red instead of orange mention of "DOS 3"
  12. Thank you Doctor I realised I forgot to mention that I would like to focus only on Atari DOS & Atari floppy disk drives. Otherwise, imagine the giant unreadable matrix I would get... This is for my "knowledge base" BTW, I know about Michael CURRENT's FAQ because I'm a frequent contributor + I'm the guy who edits the raw .TXT document to produce .PDF versions http://www.atari800xl.eu/faq/atari-8bit-faq.html The next update is expected soon. Thanks again for taking the time to answer, that's really appreciated
  13. Lucky you! In France, it was Atari 1050 or no disk drive at all. Unless you lived in Paris, there was no way to could find & buy a third party floppy disk drive. I lived close to the Belgium border, so, no luck.
  14. We're on the same page. I hated it when I got it with my 1050 back in the days (big french silver sticker on the box), and I switched to DOS 2.5 as soon as I it started to circulate. Still, for that table, I'd like to make it clear which diskettes formatted with this/that Atari DOS can be used in this/that Atari floppy disk drive. So, on purpose, I'm ignoring (for now), other DOS or floppy disk drives from other vendors.
  15. Dear Atari 8-bit fans, I'm trying to summarize the situation but it's not that simple (for me, that is). For instance, consider a SS/ED 130 Kib diskette formatted with DOS 3 on a 1050 for instance. Can this diskette be read on a 810 drive? In the first place, can a 810 boot with the official Atari DOS 3 diskette? I'm confused. I should use the Xmas time off to make all these tests, but I thought I've simply ask for help first Thank you in advance, Laurent
  16. As for the sources of Software, I visited these ones for .ATR: Source = bit torrent download Source = ftp spudster org Source = ftp.atari.art.pl Source = www.atarionline.pl Source = www.atariworld.com Source = www.langesite.com I visited these ones for .XEX: Source = www.atarionline.pl Source = bit torrent download
  17. When it comes to finding duplicate files, my favourite tool is "All Dup" (Windows, portable edition, because I don't like to install programs unless forced to) You can download it here: https://www.alldup.info/ (search "portable") It can look out for duplicate files based on numerous criteria. My usual one is "file content" (hash of actual content). You can add filters inclusive or exclusive to select files to compare (ex: *.atr|*.xex|*.bin|*.car etc...) And when you get the list of duplicates, you can define plenty of possible actions (ex: select all duplicate files found on E:\ and leave the ones on D:\) I suggest you give it a chance.
  18. Thanks very much, @TGB1718 My memory was flawed. In my memory, to do exactly what you are doing (which works perfectly), you had to open a channel with S: or E: in mode 13. Your program shows that this is unnecessary. Thanks for the tip!
  19. Ta-da! Great suggestion @vitoco, it was exactly what was missing! Thank you for much for this pertinent suggestion. With PART1.BAS now reading 10 OPEN #1,8,0,"D:ADDLINES.TXT" 20 PRINT #1;"1000 A=990:B=980" 25 PRINT #1;"GOTO 50" 30 CLOSE #1 40 RUN "D:PART2.BAS" It "resumes" PART2.BAS at line 50, as I wished. (enclosed updated PART1.BAS) part1.bas part2.bas
  20. Dear Atari fans, Yes, ATARI Basic has weaknesses and we all know them. I wanted to demonstrate that one of its strengths is that a program can be self-modifying. I wrote the following two programs: PART1.BAS 10 OPEN #1,8,0,"D:ADDLINES.TXT" 20 PRINT #1;"1000 A=990:B=980" 30 CLOSE #1 40 RUN "D:PART2.BAS" PART2.BAS 10 A=10:B=20 20 ?A,B 40 ENTER "D:ADDLINES.TXT" 50 GOSUB 1000 60 ?A,B 70 END 1000 REM PLACE HOLDER 1999 RETURN Well, it doesn't work as expected at all. In PART2.BAS, line 40 ENTER "D:ADDLINES.TXT" is executed, which updates line 1000 A=990:B=980 However, the program stops immediately at line 40, and does not execute the rest. ENTER behaves as if it had been executed in direct mode, and not in a program. So it returns control to the Atari BASIC editor, instead of continuing at line 50. I have several questions: [1] Does anyone have an explanation? [2] Does anyone know of a similar - but working - way to get a program to modify itself by loading bits of code from diskette? [3] I remember programs that would auto-modify by opening E: or S: in mode 13 (OPEN #1,13,0, "E:" or "S:"), then displaying new lines on the screen, and by positioning the cursor, the editor would simulate a "RETURN", so that the lines were actually added to the program, without the user pressing any keys. Does anyone remember this? And more importantly, does anyone remember how to do this exactly? Thank you very much in advance, Laurent part1.bas part2.bas
  21. Hello @Rybags ! I could be wrong, of course, but I thought that the 1 second boot delay -- something new with the XLs OS -- included a very quick test of RAM. By the way, I believe that if this quick test fails, the computer immediately switches to self-test, for a comprehensive RAM test. Is this correct?
  22. What about the "Self-Text", 1200XL version or later? Was anyone able to extract it to make it an independant .XEX or COM? Thank you in advance
