  1. Yeah, I actually just figured that out. heh heh... oh well...it kinda seems like you're note supposed to be there.
  2. just a quick note. You can actually get into Chozodia (I think it was Chozodia) BEFORE you're supposed to. There's an elevator that went up into it from either Brinstar or Kraid. Anyway, you can get an item in there that is "not compatible" with your current suit, so I have a feeling that this might be that hidden weapon that makes the pirates a bit easier to deal with. When you work your way out of Chozodia, it ends up putting you WAY up above your ship on Crateria, so you've got to jump off and just fall all the way down to the ship.
  3. hopefully there will be some new, free, online, pvp games pretty soon. Hopefully yes, that's a slight hint. Don't get too excited though.
  4. It's still pretty decent (if I do say so myself), but most of the fun DOES lie in being able to mess with your friend's arrows. The computer can be set to a pretty high level of challenge, so it's impossible with your feet, and just barely possible with a normal controller (using your hands). If you set it at a medium level, it's ALMOST like playing another person that doesn't suck. Definitely a game for a party of people who like DDR. And then there's Typing of Fury... Just be prepared for insanity if you've got a DC Keyboard.
  5. Both are cartridge format, and both share identical roms. So there are no "porting" issues, from teh arcade to home, simply different size pcbs that keep the two from being freely interchanged. With a BIOS mod, you can make the MVS play like an AES, or an AES play as the MVS. Don't forget that the adapter from MVS to AES is almost as expensive as its weight in gold! I've seen it go for a few hundred dollars on eBay. No tellin how much they are now. Hell, I can't even remember the name the users gave them (kinda like how the PC-Engine to TG-16 adapter is called a "Kisado"). I think I saw one of these adapters at the CGE this year, but then again, I saw a LOT of stuff at the CGE, so I could be wrong I've heard that you can pull the physical ROMs straight off of an MVS cart and stick them in the correct ports of an AES cart and vice versa. But if you're that desperate to save cash, would you really have either Neo Geo? =D
  6. you know, if they put "smart ads" on the system so that it would make the system itself cheaper, or made the games significantly cheaper, I think it might be worth it. You know? make a portable system with the above listed specs for around $50? I think that might work... as long as the ads weren't up in your face while you're playing a game. Maybe during loading or something?
  7. When I worked at my previous job (video game store), we always recommended Baldur's Gate (on Xbox) because it was a pretty decent action-style RPG for 2 people co-op.
  8. Damn, that sucks. The game rules! It got great reviews from what I've seen, as well. I hope this isn't going to turn out as another ICO. Loved that game too, and it was recieved with quite a bit less purchasing than I'd hoped. Which reminds me, anyone know if they're still working on ICO 2?

  10. unless a game comes out with a web browser, the only way to surf the net on the PS2 would be with the Linux Kit. And then, it's just like using a computer (only slower). You'd have to get a device like a Dex Drive so that you can transfer the save from your PC to your memory card. I think there are some memory cards out now that attach to the PC somehow. Don't ask me where to find them though...I've only heard rumors.

Dan is working fast an furious right now, trying to get some nice visual FX working in the in-game engine. The screens do exist, and the CA team has them, but they aren't really "worth" posting.   12. Hello AAers...good news for an old(er) system: Cryptic Allusion is going to release yet another game for the Dreamcast. We're going to update/finish off our previous project called "Tryptonite"; a demo of which was produced and released on the DC Tonic CD that was passed around at E3 a few years ago.   13. Okay people, get off your butts...rather, stay on them...and head (quickly!!!) over to www.spiketv.com. There you will see that Spike TV has announced that they are taking online votes for the Video Game Awards!!! There are sections for writing in nominees on (I think) all of the categories, so write in your own or (better yet), write in my company and our game (Cryptic Allusion's "Feet of Fury") for any of the categories. I just think it'd be hilarious to have a new game for a dead system win a brand spankin' new award... Of course, I don't really expect it to happen, but it would be fun to try. So, tell your friends, make them tell their friends. Get us on the show, or correct some of the HORRIBLE choices they've got up there (Madden 2004 nominated for best music?? Gimme a break!). Seriously! We need all the help we can get Thanks, and happy voting.
  14. I think we might see some new inroads to game programming because of this. Like something that reacts to both your voice and facial expression (along the lines of Seaman, only a bit more complex). Also, don't forget that it's JUST a camera! How about a little picture in the corner of SOCOM 3 that shows the ACTUAL player you just killed?

  16. And everyone thought it was just going to be a gimmick! HEH...well, it sort of is, but I can see this thing being VERY fun with a few friends around. Purchased mine today at the Wal-Mart across the street for a little under 45 dollars. Not bad, considering it comes with a nice selection of mini-games (11 to be exact) and the camera itself. Not only are there minigames, but you can take videos of yourself doing stupid crap, and save it to the memory card (not in-game stuff, unfortunately). The files are relatively small: 10 seconds with sound is only 16k. Yes, there is a mic attached to the camera so you can record audio, too. If you're looking at it, it's to the lower left corner...I think. There's a little rectangular thing that looks like its only function would be a screen for a mic. You have the option of 10 to 60 seconds of video. It's kind of neat. Anyway, the games... Out of the 11 games, a couple are DDRish games (hit the "insert target here" to the beat of the song or copy what the onscreen character does), but most are "whack-a-mole" types. Now, there are a couple of different themes between the whack-a-mole games, and that makes them different enough to each be enjoyable for their own reasons. For instance, in the ghost hunter game, you have to watch for the ghosts, and then put one or both hands over them while waving. It's like you're erasing them from the screen. Eventually they pop, and you move on to the next ghost. Similarly, in the SlipStream game, you have four clouds from which a good character or a bad character could pop out. If you "hit" the good ones, that's a point off your mistake meter. You get three chances for a lot of this stuff. So far, my favorite has been Kung Foo. It's got a great little bonus level where you have to break boards along the corners and sides of the screen. And you can't just wave your arms around, you've got to use a bit of aim and skill to get your strikes in the middle of the targets, or you don't get the points. While these games are by no means genius, they are fun to play, and with friends around, it'll be a great deal of laughs as you laugh at them, they laugh at you, etc., etc., etc. All in all, I'd have to recommend the Eye Toy to anyone who has semi-active friends (i.e., they don't just sit around all day, everyday), or an interest in yet another peripheral that may not get much use after its initial pack in I can see this being good for homebrew devvers to make use of.

  18. Or a Dreamcast VMU with less features. I'd have to disagree with that. Now, I LOVE my Dreamcast, but Sony did their homework on the pocketstation. It doesn't eat batteries nearly as much as the VMU, it can have digitally recorded sound (short voice samples and such), plus the button recognition is overall much better than the VMU. Yes, the VMU has a clock, and you can keep multiple mini-games on it, but the screens were all pretty crappy, and the sound was horrible. I think the only DC game I had that made good use of the VMU as a standalone game machine was Power Stone 1 (did Power Stone 2 have more mini games?). I love the ability of scoring high in a mini-game on the VMU and uploading the data to access more cool stuff on the DC. Anyway, I think both systems have their ups and downs, but overall, I prefer the Pocketstation. I think it's more versatile, and a better design.

  20. i've got one. It's a neat little "system"...too bad it was never released here. Got mine when I was in Japan a few years ago. It was ¥3000 then, and I'm pretty sure they've gone up in price. I remember they were selling on ebay for about $60 at one point. The mini games to load onto it come from PS1 games that have the mini game loadable from an interface on the Playstation. There are a couple that rely on you actually having the pocketstation in order to play the full game (like Dokodemo Isshyo).
  21. The only way this could be wrong is if the warranty is actually 180 days, but I'm 99% positive that it's 90 days. And I think the additional warranty is $50 to purchase from Microsoft. It might be less to get it from Best Buy if you get the warranty from them.
  22. I have a friend here who is a manager at the call center for 8004MyXbox and he's told me that the warranty is 90 days in the US from MS. You can purchase an extended warranty from MS (IIRC), but it's too expensive. I believe MS does the pickup/drop off thing here in the US as well, but you have to pay for it. Sounds like you UKers got the sweet end of the deal.
  23. Actually, you've got it a little backwards. Jaggies are what occurs from low screen resolution (aka, "aliasing"). ANTI-aliasing is the "solution" to jaggies...not the jaggies themselves. That's why you have different versions of it now on PCs (2x, 4x, 8x, quincunx, etc.) depending on which videocard you have. The smooth scaling option in the menu (along with the Disc Speed option) is only used when playing PS1 games. It has no effect on PS2 games at all. The S-Video and RGB connections will pretty much ALWAYS make a picture look better, as long as the system generating the picture knows that those connections are there.

Considering that the DC microphone was basically designed around one game, came packaged with it (Seaman), AND it was priced competitvely when compared to other new games, I fail to see how it was a gimmick. Gimmicks are usually designed to entice someone to buy something that will cost additional money. I would consider memory cards that have very small capacities to be a gimmick. They force you to purchase more than one, usually at heavily inflated prices (a la Playstation).
  25. Um...I hope you were kidding, because if you're not I'm going to feel very sorry for you. Plus, I have no idea what you mean by "Everything old is new and shitty". That makes no sense. Either you like old stuff, or you like new stuff (or in my case, both). Old stuff can't be new...that kinda negates the "old" part.
