thanks for all of the advice guys....if i ever do decide to mess with again i will take your advice!

definately a learning curve....i have a xf551 disc drive new in the box that i got with it and i really do not feel like opening it to check my 800xl....seems like it is working as it should....i was just confused because when i first turned it on it let me type whatever but once i typed in dos and did a test it went to the screen with a white square and i couldnt do anything....this sounds like normal behavior though

why did the intial screen go from being able to type stuff to just a white square not being able to type anything?

i do not have the monitor port cable either.....so the monitor port is a plug like the power plug except on the other end it has female rca's or rca's that plug directly into a tv?

i do not have a cartridge nor a disc....all i have is the 800xl keyboard

i just purchased a atari 800xl and have no idea on what i am doing.....i watched a youtube video and tried to play along so i typed in DOS and it took me to a test screen where i listened to test tones and then backed out....now i am stuck at a blue screen with a white square dot and i cannot type a thing..... also i have a very fuzzy picture....i did not get the correct cord so i used a nintendo one which could part of my problem..... THANKS IN ADVANCE!
