  1. Understandable. My FB2 has all the switch capabilities in buttons. It works, but I am never sure whether I have Difficulty "A" or "B" engaged.
  2. I have a FB2 (and none of the other Flashbacks) for this very purpose: It is designed so it can be modded in order to have a cart. slot. Only issue is that it doesn't play all of the games. Even so, the fact that it can play carts after the hardware mod is added is proof that it can be done. But as you said, "missteps get people frothed over". That would include the issues of not playing all the carts. The Retron 5, by comparison, was designed to be software driven rather than hardware driven, in that updates can be downloaded to it to fix compatibility issues. Which is great, except that any compatibility problems with homebrews might be overlooked.
  3. Where we lived, it was also Show Biz Pizza - but this was the older days, before they merged with Rick Rat's. They did not have the same characters - it was a competing franchise. Rocka-fire Explosion FTW. Aaron Fletcher is trying to keep it alive, but I think with little success. http://engineeringcreative.com/
  4. What, you're scared to sleep on the big huge spider?
  5. Whatever happened to batari?

  6. Eh, Nintendo has been around for ca. a hundred years, long before video games were envisioned. Nintendo has a long history of being able to adapt and survive.

    Mario or Sonic?

Hmm, yes. But Mario is to Nintendo as Sonic is to Sega. Who would be Sega's character analogous to Kirby? I couldn't say.
  8. As a member of a train collecting organization, various auction houses advertise in one of our publications for just this purpose, for model rail collections. On that note, I wouldn't doubt auction houses will do the same for other collections as well, as long as time is taken to look for same.
  9. Turnabout: An alternate question may be "If my spouse dies before I do, what will I do with all these collectible dolls [or what have you]?" I'm saying this rhetorically only. But to address the topical question, I would say it depends on the age of our kid and their interest at that time. At present age, it is hard to say.
  10. C64. Yes, definitely C64. Personally, I enjoyed Windows more prior to 1995.
  11. Wow. Good grief. I've seen boxes of stuff in this condition for sale at swap meets, but the seller always admits it is a "junk box" and will let the whole collection of whatsits go for $5. Basically he's trying to get rid of stuff whose value is only in spare parts, with the hope of not having to throw it away. But this guy -- that's something else.
  12. I get bothered by the misuse of the word "download". All the time I get people telling me they "downloaded" a file TO something. Sometimes I even get confused and think they really are downloading, and the conversation doesn't make any sense until I realize they actually mean "upload".

  14. I see why I was thinking there might have been one now. I took a look at my hardware, and I discovered this: (1) The 2600 Jr. has a divot under the label, not a screw. If you feel around that label, it seems like it might be a screw, but it is not. (2) The Flashback 2 does have a screw under its label. While this is irrelevant to the construction of the 2600 Jr., it is interesting to note.
  15. Super Smash Bros. 4 (2DS) Choplifter! (Atari 7800) Pole Position II (Atari 7800)
  16. Fascinating. As of now, most people who did vote voted "No, I'll stick to what I already have." Also apparently lots of abstentions, including myself. My newest consoles per company: Atari: 7800 Nintendo: Wii Sony: PS2 [maybe we'll get a PS3 one day] Sega: Genesis (At Games clone)
  17. What about the label on the underside? Was it damaged to get to a hidden screw? [it looks fine in the picture, but that could have been prior to disassembly.] Just curious and asking for clarification. I have a long rainbow Jr. I had apart for servicing, but I do not remember whether there was a screw under that label or not.
  18. Kirby Triple Deluxe (2DS) NES Remix (2DS) Donkey Kong (2600 cart on 7800 hardware)
  19. Yeah, I understand. It can be annoying, but I suppose it's better than just throwing stuff into the rubbish heap. As for me, I like to take old stuff that doesn't work and then make mods to make them work again. No longer original (and obviously so - I'm not out to trick people), but they are moved from the pile of swell, original stuff that used to work to swell, but modified, stuff that does work. But I prefer to keep it original and working if possible.
  20. When it comes to hard to find carts where the ROMs can be found, makes the most sense, I think, to put the ROM onto the Harmony or some such. Then you can play it, and forget the cart or box until / unless the original can be found. (Why pay, for example > $100 for a fake of Princess Rescue when you can get the ROM for free?) Of course, this has been going on since games have been out. It's nothing new. https://atariage.com/company_page.php?CompanyID=27&SystemID=2600&SystemFilterID=2600 Model railroading has a similar problem, although obviously there's no ROM to be found, since everything is hardware. Some stuff is clearly labeled by mfg., year, a reproduction mark, etc. and none of this diminishes the value of the original, as everyone knows they are not originals. Whereas there are also some disreputables who modify existing stock and/or make outright fakes and then sell them as rares for big bucks. Yuck!
  21. What do you mean "Parallel"? This actually happened. It's all in the book Atari Inc.: Business is Booming.
  22. It's because it's essentially a warehouse that doesn't need a nice store-front. It's behind the street-side establishments; last I checked, you could actually see the door from Googlemaps, but it's not obvious that it's Brad's place. Either no sign, or else the sign is hidden. I only know it is the place because of someone else who had actually been there. I've been to a place with a similar setup in north Alabama - a warehouse that ship to places around the world, but has no walk-in store-front. The people there were really surprised to get a walk-in at all, and I had to wait awhile for them to fetch my item from their stores.
  23. My older brother had a VCS since early days, but it stopped working was was put into a closet for years with the intention of fixing it, which never happened. It was a wood-grain - don't remember whether it was a 6- or 4- switch model. So then I got my the 2600 Jr. when it was brand new in 1986. Still got it; I've replaced the board recently and so I still use it. And for what its worth, I got my 7800 this week on May 2, 2016. Back in the '80's a friend of mine had his 7800 serviced, and then got it back with another copy of Pole Position II. He gave it to me, but when I realized I couldn't play it on my 2600, I returned it. A pity - I could be using it now. But that would be a long time to hold onto a game before ever using it.
