I've had a few programmers ask me about the Say Game Modules technical details for programming. I've included a schematic of the Say Game Module. The addressing for the ram and AY-3-89XX sound chip is backwards compatible with the Super Game module. If you have programmed for it then you'll be right at home with the Say Game. The SPO256A-AL2 is driven from the output port of the AY-3-8912, so making speech is pretty easy. I'll link more info regarding the SPO256A-AL2 and the memory map of the Ram and AY-3-89XX. It should work on a Mac, but I use Windows. 32K transfer is probably 5-7 seconds. Note: I didn't write this Windows application I am using. It was written by MARTIN_H from the 6502.org news group. His github is here if anyone is interested https://github.com/Martin-H1/MEEPROMMER My project was inspired and is based loosely on the project in this thread http://forum.6502.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2491

I wanted to make a device that could stay plugged into the cartridge slot and have bin/rom files loaded to it through a PC USB. So I could do software testing and debugging on real hardware (Namely the CV). I ended up using battery backed ram with an Arduino Nano and shift registers to program it. I ordered some pcb's for it and am patiently waiting.. In the mean time I thought I would share the progress with anyone that is interested. I did this project solely for my own needs. Most of you have the Atarimax which works awesome. I just wanted something that worked for what I needed as a programming aid. This is limited to the 32K Rom space on the colecovision. It will work fine to load any original CV game or any game that is 32K or less. The supervisory chip that controls the ram and battery back up is a ADM691AARNZ. colecoEpromEmu.pdf

Thanks for the info. It will help next time. I appreciate it.

Packaged up it is 5oz in the Famicom case.

That's what I used, but AtariBuff cried it was to much. It quoted something like $55. I'm starting to see why Edurado just blows everyone off and does what he wants...

Does anyone have suggestions for shipping overseas from the USA? I live in the country and there is no Fedex near. There is a post office and a UPS drop off. It's not that I don't want to ship overseas it's just not worth the time and money to go through the post office's cost and customs.

So it's different then his NTSC SGM?
-
The petition starts here #1

Does anyone have a pal CV out there and used the SGM on it successfully?
-
I talked with Opcode. The sc-01a is not used. The game does not talk during game play. It talks during intermission when nothing is going on and the cpu can dedicate all its time for producing speech samples. It's definitely not going to be an accurate arcade port, but better then nothing. It would be better if at some point the programmer incorporated the say game module then it could talk during game play.

I'm not sure.. I was bummed I got my first negative feedback on ebay from someone that had a Pal or Scart CV and the SGM didn't work. I forgot to explicitly state it didn't work for them (If it works for one or the other I am not sure). Again I don't have a schematic for either the scart or pal CV in front of me to see what differences they have. As far as the Ram goes I was just throwing that out there. It's pretty cheap, but it's not fun to solder on ... I put all these together by hand. It takes me some time, but it's apparenty faster then sending them to China for assembly.

Also, I'd like to thank Chart for all his help. He was super nice enough to send me an Adam for testing among other things. If anyone is interested I may put together a few sgm's that only work with the Adam for a discount. The Adam does not need the extra 32k ram.

Honestly, I don't know the exact differences between the expansion connectors pin out and schematics for the NTSC and PAL CV'S. At some point I may buy a PAL CV and see what has to be done to make it work.

Thanks NIAD, Will do. I am just waiting for legit SPO256A-AL2 IC's to come in.
-
Just to be clear these do not work on the Pal Version of the Colecovision. If there is enough interest I may make a version for it.
-
No I am leaving off all the speech chip support IC's so these are just standard SGM's. 2 Left.............

Okay folks here is the deal... The SPO256A-AL2 speech chips that I just received are all counterfeit Chinese junk.. So Here is what I am doing. I am ordering from another source and hopefully they are genuine working devices that come this time. SO ...... In the mean time I am going to put together 5 SGM's without the Speech Synthesizer. They will be fully SGM compatible devices. I will put them in a Famicom Case. They are $49.99 each plus shipping for AA members. Thanks, Fred

Please educate yourself before spewing Opcode jizz from your mouth. The SPO256A-Al2 is uses Allophones not Phonemes.

The name super game module or SGM was coined by Coleco not Eduardo.
-
We measured an original SGM and designed the PCB to be the exact same size so it should fit like a glove. The name was put on the PCB by Richard the pcb designer,The artwork on the Famicom case says Juicebox Speech Game Module.

No you and the others who supported me behind the scenes are the MEN!!! I am so happy to be able to have these available soon!!! SUPER BIG Thanks to Richard for designing the PCB. Mine looked like poo compared to his.
-
That's right the Say Game Module (100% Super Game Module compatible) are in. These do everything the original Super game module did PLUS MORE!!! Besides being here in the flesh and real, not vapor hardware it has some awesome added features. The Say Game Module also has the ability to speak.... That's right it also incorporates the SPO256A-AL2 speech synthesizer. It of coarse also has the added 32k ram and AY-3-89XX sound support.. Also these are the same size as the original SGM so they should fit in that case or the Famicom case nicely These are SWEEEEETTTT !!!!

DAMN IT THAT WAS YOU!!!! LOL no but that was a great deal you got. I see them go on Ebay CIB for $150 or more.
