  1. For those who don't like the clamshell case here is a picture of my updated Aircars boxset. And a few bonus pics of the reprinted manual. Boxset is £11 and manuals are £3.50 each.

    Looks stunning Gaz! :lust:

Definitely interested in a KA box/manual/overlay set. i already have a CIB Aircars '94, so the next question is: do you have a set for ICD/B&C Aircars? :)

  2. So, i crashed the Commodore/Amiga Users Group monthly club meet-up with my Atari Jaguar and Rebooteroids :-D

I thought this would be a good place to test the 2P versions of the game, and i wasn't wrong! After copping some 'WTF greasies' people came up, enjoyed the viasual and audio experience, and then sat down to both 1P and 2P games. It was a hit :)

I have to say, i was surprised that the biggest hit of the night was not the Single player but both the co-op multiplayer games, with Kombateroids coming in at least played. I myself was surprised at just how much fun i was having either navigating the ship or being the gunner! I don't normally get into two people controlling the same ship but i have to say, this is now my favourite way to play Rebooteroids! :)

On the night we played on a PAL, K-model Jag. I did bring an NTSC K model to test on as well, but we just got caught up in the fun and i forgot all about the changeover!

We did not find any issues from playing the co-op games. Having said that, as many wanted to play, no one kept playing for ages to make it further along into the games to give others a go, so i can't vouch for gameplay at the later levels. Also, each game of Kombateroids only lasted pretty quick with people only playing the one round before wanting to go back to playing co-op.

The only 'bug' i did encounter was in the High Score name entering part: it would only allow for 8 characters maximum so Serblander was cruelly cut down to Serbland :D But i believe this is a common bug in Reboot games :P

I managed to get a few pics of the play. Unfortunately, i remembered all too late at the end of the night after most people went home. I guess that's testament to how much fun Rebooteroids is to play :)

  3. What a fantastic thread and super helpful for new (and old) Jagamers alike! I often get asked about best ways to go about getting jag stuff so i'm going to be linking this thread to newcomers ;)

    Homebrews

Generally it is best to pay attention to the threads for new releases, and to buy them when they are released. You will pay a steep markup on ebay. Great sites for Jaguar hombrews include:

    http://console5.com/store/software/atari/jaguar-cd.html

Also, thank you for Console 5 link! I knew of it but thought i'd just take another look and... Boom! I see a Homebrew CD title release i totally missed: Ausweichmanover! One left in stock  Out of Stock!

The only thing i can think of to add to this guide is the following tip for non-US collectors:

I can highly recommend you open an account with a service provider like BundleBox that you can ship all your US purchases to and save a TON of cash from postage! I chose this as opposed to other USA address providers/re-senders due to friend recommendations and the fact that they will store your items up to 30 days FREE of charge per each item. You can either send individually of 'Bundle' them together and send as one parcel saving you Big bucks! They ship via FedEx so everything is super quick, reliable and online tracked with up to date email notifications. While this can be a little pricey, i have saved between half to three quarters on what i would have otherwise payed if i had send all items to Australia individually.

Please be aware: While this comes in handy ( :-D ) for single items that some sellers would not send out of the US, it is most beneficial if you use it and plan to have numerous items repacked (at small fee) and bundled and sent together. So, if you do not plan on getting a lot then this may not be worth it for you. Then again, it's only $15 USD to join and you get that $15 off your first order.

Also look around, you may find something better. This is the only service like that which i've tried but i'm super happy with it. And as for Aussies, Aus Post has a similar option (ShopMate) but the benefits are not as good (eg: they don't let you store each items for up to 30 days, etc). In any case, have a look, have a think, and have fun with saving money with your Jag collecting! ;)

  4. I actually think about Gauntlet, Xevious, and Rebooteroids a fair deal as well. Can't wait to have carts of these games...

Wait what?! Gauntlet on cart? As in an actual public release?? man i would love Gauntlet II as a full cart release on the Jag, even though i have pretty much every home version CIB as well as the original 4P cab!

  5. Just a heads up that it has hit KS and I'm proud to be supporting it, I love this stuff! =D

This, Art of Atari, Business is Fun and Business is War! What a coffee table to have!

Yep, me too! just pledged for the physical/hardcover tier and started spreading the word! ;)

Btw, also pre-ordered Art of Atari on amazon. Looking forward to them both!!

  6. Beautiful sight and a nice even 30 boxed too!

Hehe, yeah, and that's the first time i've seen them all like that myself :lust:

    That's dedication....Look great...

Congratulations on getting it all and condolences re your Dad...

    Thank you and thank you

Nice! It's hard enough to get a lot of those loose.

Are you also collecting the XE proto / repros? They're really part of the family to me, and some of the best of the lot, even if they don't have boxes.

Yes, i could have had it a looooot earlier if i was willing to have them loose, but i just had to have the whole set CIB, just to take me back to that department store almost 30 years ago where i would just stare and marvel at all the games i 'could have' had that were sitting on the store shelves :)

    :-o

I've made peace with the fact I will probably never get games like Karateka even loose, let alone CIB or NIB!

    Great collection and great story!

Never say never ;) and thank you.

Congratulations on getting a full XEGS collection! I'm still kicking myself for selling my CIB copy of Airball.

I love the XEGS games, and I wish that Atari had made more of them. The only disappointment is the boxes: they were a different size than Atari's 2600/7800 boxes, and as far as I know, there are no box protectors that can fit them. I've got a few XEGS boxed games that I'd love to have protectors for.

Thanks. The Airball that i have is only the 3rd CIB Airball i have ever seen for sale in my life - and only ever online :skull: As for the boxes, as this was my first introduction to Atari i find these the 'norm' though i do understand where you are coming from. i have not seen any box protectors for these either, but if i ever do i will let you know ;-)

Wow. Really beautiful! Congrats on completing the set!

I remember seeing many of those titles for sale in Toys R'Us back around 1991, and thinking "well I already have those on disk... so I will save my money and buy games like Hawkquest instead". Regret that decision now, just like I regret not picking up Rayman and Tempest 2000 for the Jag when they were on close out.

Thank you. The only time i ever saw these on the shelves was at full retail of $40 AUD « that's why my father though it was too much as i already had 3 to keep me busy :D Speaking of Rayman for the Jag, i recently swapped my CIB copy to a mate for a loose Lynx Lemmings box and a loose Fat Bobby cart to help near complete my CIB Lynx collection. I know i could have got a lot more on eBay but i'd rather put a smile on a fellow Jag collector's face :)

Nice! I scored a NIB Karateka XE years ago, where did you get yours?

    eBay (US)

Wow it's the best retrocollecting goal.

    ABSOLUTELY! :D

my xe collection, not complete..... again 2/3 things...

    collecXE.jpg

Rhod, that is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! While i now have what i've always wanted as a kid (as Australia only had the big set as far as i know), i have been after the other 5 complete boxed editions for a few years now. I almost bought one last year (only one i've seen for sale) but it was incomplete  These 5 are now my next XEGS achievement goal :music:

    Awesome photos. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for sharing in the mutual enjoyment!

There's an NIB Karateka XE available at Eight Bit Fix.

I'm not sure if there is! The seller advertised it in AA Marketplace. I responded with a reply as well as a PM saying i would buy it. Few days later i was told he put it up on eBay to see how it goes on there.

Yeah, okay "Really Badly" being the key word... I bought a minty loose one and three other XE carts for $75 (ebay)...

I was willing to pay the price to complete my CIB collection, and i know another XEGS collector who is missing a CIB Karateka to complete his collection that would have payed the same, even though he already has a loose Karateka. I passed up many cheaper loose carts to go for the complete set, but then again, to each their own :)

My late Father also bought me my first Atari, the 65XE in my case. It came with 10 games and he had the idea that I only needed maybe another 5.

I remember my Mother counting all my tapes just around 6 months after getting the system and she said to my Father in front of me, "He has 38 tapes, I counted them all!".

It was thought that I was being greedy! :)

Similar stories, though you had a much better deal with the 10 games, I still only had my 3 bundled games for three years before my dad finally buckled and bought me an Atari 520 STFM "for school" that came with the BEST 20 pack in games in all of history (The POWER PACK), saying that i now have 20 games and he will never need to buy me any more!

  7. I want to thank everyone for playing in the last season and I hope to see you in Season 7. Also congratulations to masematte, travistouchdown and Spacey Invader for coming in first, second and third place.

Echo that, and thank you for not only running the High Score Club but also for providing a solid reason to continuously exercise the Jag! Also, congratulations to our 3 Top Ranked participants of Round 8!!!

    Season 9:

Voting for next season should be up in the next mouth after the 17th and I plan to give each voting topic 2-3 weeks to give them time for people to vote in. First topic will be for which games that will be played and the second topic will be for modes/setting to be used in season 9. Season 9 will have 12 rounds just like last season.

Just to elaborate: do you mean the start of Season 9 will be on or just after the 17th of June, or that that's the time when we will start voting? Hope it's the start because I CAN'T WAIT to sink my teeth into the new Season of Jag games!!!

    Request:

Please let me know what games you have and what game you want to play in Season 9, so I can added them into the future voting threads.

OK, so here are my TOP 3 Jag games i would love to compete in and give me a great excuse to play and get into (in most wanted preference from 1-3):

    1) Impulse X

    2) Full Circle: Rocketeer

    3) Protector S.E. (i also have the original Protector but much prefer S.E.)

Also been hooked on Downfall / + so would love to play more of that, though not sure if you want repeats of game(s) from last Season :ponder:

As for what games i own, i have every official cart and CD release as well as most post-Atari releases, including all of Telegames, Scatologic, and all but 3 of Songbird (Robinson's Requiem CD, Hyper Force and Total Carnage). Having said that, if any of those games are selected i will be more than happy to purchase them, otherwise have a Rev.3 SkunkBoard and Virtual Jag on Mac to load up any other Freebee releases ;)

  8. A journey that started 29 years ago came to completion the other day. My father bought me my first gaming system, the Atari XEGS upon release in 1987, but never bought me any more games for it, believing the 3 that had come with the system were enough (:D).

Ever since then, looking at all the pics of games on offer on the back of the console box, and playing the demos at my local department store (Myer, Dandenong), I wanted them all! Now, nearly 3 decades after, with the sealed Kareteka that arrived last Wednesday, I have every single Atari XEGS game complete in box : )

Thank you dad for starting me on my gaming journey with this most interesting and cool little pastel buttoned system. I wish you were here to reminisce with me. May you rest in peace. 🍻

  9. Nice pick-up! How much did Dan have it listed for? I was looking for one for my mate but i must have missed it at The Goat Store (was recently looking on there for JagLink 2).

  10. Just caught up to all the shows, nice work :)

Really enjoyed a lot of them, but my favourite three would have to be:

 Behind the scenes Dragon's Lair & Space Ace - just wish there was some talk on the other game on the Jag CD: Braindead 13, but not sure if he was involved with that one as well)

 Brutal Sports Football - so looking forward to playing this with mates on the next 'Boyz Night' ; )

 White Men Can't Jump - along with Brutal Sports vid, I found it to be the most enjoyable to watch with the 'co-stars' :) Really enjoyed the Bros vs Bros 4P action, and while you have already covered (a 2P) NBA Jam TE, i think it would be great to do a 'Bros vs Bros Re-Match on a 4P Team Tap NBA Jam T.E.

And as for the last vid, i love and collect the Jag-Ware catalog items! So far i have 8 out of the 18 merch collectibles. Been a loooong road to get those, but have to say, the Jaguar Magic Eyes Mug is super sweet and highly recommended! They tend to sell for drug money on the eBays nowadays, but i was lucky to get a couple from Pete over at Go Atari (WOW! Remember that?!) back in the early 2000's. I remember having to order them in separate purchase orders as there was a limit of 1 per customer/order. Aaah, good times...

  11. The round is now over and with it the season. I hope to see you guys in the next one.

Thanks! It's been an absolute blast, even with competing on this last game only and going for all the Participation Points for the rest (apart from Total Carnage as i don't have that yet). It even got me to finally download and try Virtual Jaguar for the Mac (and as many know, i don't do emulators) so its been a great learning experience that introduced me not only to VJ but also to new favourites Downfall and Superfly DX :)

REALLY looking forward to the next Season! I even got two mates & fellow Atari Age'rs excited to play along (for the first time) and do group sessions with each round of Season 9. So, the question beckons... when does Season 9 start?!

  12. Have you tried https://www.hillsoftware.com/files/atari/jaguar/ ?

If that doesn't work, try googling for "libusb OS X" (I have no experience with it, but I know the software uses libusb to communicate with the Skunkboard).

Thank You Very Much!!! That linked worked, downloaded the files and gave it a go. After several 'WTF' moments, i used belboz's GUI for OSX and... Voila! One Rebooteroids loaded up and ready to go!

    Cheers!!

  13. Backstory (copied from other thread):

Ok, so i'm having problems getting my Skunkboard (Rev 3) to be recognized by my PC (XP)! Tried around 5 different USB/mini cables: nothing. Went out and bought a USB hub as well as an external power source for it, and $45 later: nothing! Skunk works on the Jag (green screen and both Up and Down choices), just whenever i turn the Jag on there is no prompt to install the drivers :???:

Is there any type of guide showing the operation of a Skunkboard - especially the initial set-up part? Tried googling the crap out of teh internets and YouTubes but nothing, apart from reviews and general info. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! I've been hanging to try out Rebooteroids and test it out on my various Jags!

Update: Still no go on my PC. So, how do i go about trying to load the Skunk via my MacBook? All the mentions of SkunkBoard and MAC i've seen give a link to belboz's site, however, the links takes me to a digital wasteland :( Does anyone actually have that MAC driver or can provide a valid link to download it?

Help me AtariAge-Kenobi... you're my only hope! :jango:
