    Hunchy II

It's got 9 reviews in the AA store and a perfect 5 star rating. Absolutely no sign that it's being outflashed by the new generation of homebrews.

    Hunchy II

No freaking way. Hunchy II is one of my favorite homebrews in my collection and I am never shy about recommending it to anyone who asks what homebrews they should look at getting. I am about to order the multi-cart that has Hunchy on it because I missed it and I love Hunchy II so much I feel that my collection is incomplete without the original. I don't care how many Draconians or Scrambles come out, Hunchy II is a homebrew classic and if Albert ever ran some kind of "Greatest Hits" line of games, Hunchy II would HAVE to be on that list. I have just as much fun playing Hunchy II as I do anything that has come out since. No way. I think this is a huge mistake.
  3. Very excited about all of them. Hard to pick between Gizzle Wap, Assembloids, Scramble or Anguna. Will eventually have all of them, no doubt. This is the strongest homebrew release group I've seen in a while. Well done to all of the homebrewers out there absolutely crushing it.
  4. Ok, so I bought it. I wanted to pass on it, but I thumbed through it and based on what whisperingloon said, I thought the least I could do is give it a try. This comic is 100% better than the mess that is Swordquest. Unlike SQ, in this comic things actually happen! The main character does things. Instead of just moping about like a loser, he goes hunting for the giant space centipede that destroyed his world. There is actual action. In fact, except for a pretty unnecessary four page info dump in the middle, this comic is ALL action. The main character is still kind of cut from the "rejected loser" cloth, which tells me that comic book writers writing about video games think that their audience follows a certain basement dwelling mouth-breathing stereotype and that they want to read about characters that resemble that stereotype for some reason. But at least this character gets busy interacting with the world. I'm in for Centipede. The first issue was solid. Not amazing, but for a comic loosely based on a video game, this is the best I've read in a while (looking at you terrible Dragon's Lair, Street Fighter, Double Dragon and other comics from days of yore...) If you're not sure about video game comics, I think this is a good way to test how interested you really are.
  5. Thanks for the review. I'm probably going to pass on this one after being so unmoved by the Swordquest comic, so it's nice to hear what's going on. Keep us in the loop as to how it progresses!
  6. The FINAL word on why Uncanny X-men for the NES isn't a trash pile http://electricfrankfurter.blogspot.com/2010/08/closer-look-at-uncanny-x-men-for-nes.html

Hey being an X-Men fan I can appreciate it just for letting me play as 6 of the characters. I was able to clear most of the levels too. It's just harder to go back to after playing some of the later games. Even when the Genesis games were out, Colossus wasn't in those games and Iceman wasn't playable yet. Those two didn't become playable again until Children of the Atom.

The first X-Men game I played was the arcade game. When I saw X-Men for Nintendo in the video rental section of our local grocery store, I had to check it out. It was...different from what I'd thought it would be. :P

I kinda like the game too but I haven't dedicated the time to get good at it.

  7. Added Hacker Face and TRASH to the Tracker. Updated a few other entries. http://electricfrankfurter.blogspot.com/2017/03/atari-2600-homebrew-project-tracker.html

Thanks for updating the status to Carrot Kingdom! :3 Not to be a bother though, but Jinny is a Cat Girl, rather than a Bunny Girl. ^^

Crap. I thought I corrected that already. Will fix. Sorry.

Ah no worries. :) Easy mistake to make. She is an animal girl in a world of carrots. ^^

  9. I really don't know. I agree that the jumps are unforgiving (wait until the tanks show up...), but they've always been doable for me. The moon physics do take some getting used to and practice, but I don't find them as game breaking as you do.
  10. I still enjoy playing Golf. It's not terrible, certainly not the embarrassment that is Miniature Golf. Sure, it lacks the features of later golf games, but the essence of golf is there and for the most part you can play without incident. I strongly recommend turning off the hard OB lines, though.
  11. Ok, so I'll be the odd man out that admits I miss being able to duck the enemy shots. Otherwise the new control scheme works just fine. Takes some finesse to collect trash at the top of the screen, but as soon as you learn that it's walking straight up or down that triggers the cans/bags, it's not so bad.
  12. Did I just press a joystick button repeatedly for a solid minute so I could watch a truck move from the left side of the screen to the right side of the screen over a stack of primary color bars? Did I do it wrong? Is there more to it? This is like really, really, really slow Dragster. Not my cup of tea. And that is some title screen you've got there too.
  13. When you lose your last man, you start over with your current score instead of resetting to 0000000. Game is off to a good start. It gets a little monotonous after a while and the only real difficulty increase is enemy speed, so once you learn to stay off the sides until you get a $ or a # you can play forever. Took me a while to get used to the lack of diagonal movement, but I think it fits the game perfectly. Would there be a way to introduce the enemies slowly as the levels progress? Start with just the Demons then add the Tipulas, then $, and then other hackers and finally, when you get to really fast levels the bunny. At least then there is some novelty late in the game. Would also take longer to get through the early levels if you couldn't cheese on the $ for big points early. Love the crispness and cleanliness of it.
  14. I absolutely love this game and suck at it. I was the one who had to figure it out as a kid sans manual, but when you're 8 and you've got all summer... Congratulations, Admiral. A truly impressive feat. Lt. Stan
  15. Yeah, but I like the idea of going down to the curb to collect the trash cans and going up to enter the buildings! making it straight linear might limit some game play aspects. If Activision can pull off Double Dragon, I have full faith that WizardBone can work this out!
  16. I think you can tap the button to shoot and hold to activate an action. Seems like that's a thing in existing games. Hopefully someone smarter than me is watching and can speak to this.
  17. Is it possible to make it so that if you press the button + UP or button + DOWN to open can or crouch. That way regular joystick action would move the character around the screen and holding the button and moving the stick would initiate an action. Is that possible?
  18. Maybe you searched for "ass-steroids?" I've got a Baby Pac-Man mini-book with record.
  19. yeah, I think the main question is "how important is it that the character duck to pick up the trash?" Would walking over it accomplish the same effect and simplify the controls? If not, that's fine, it only takes a second to adjust to the different control scheme. As long as Q*bert can walk around out there with it's nutty control scheme, I doubt "diagonal to walk up and down" is going to be a deal breaker.
  20. Those are great games to start with and Cave In is an excellent next choice!
  21. I really like the idea of the occasional monster popping out of the trash can instead of trashure (and yes, feel free to use it as you see fit!). Overall goal could be as simple as defeat X number of boss monsters to free the city of their stinky rule. Rescuing people along the way could be the way to score major points or something. I kind of like the idea of a single life, how far can you make it, kind of concept. The 2600 can be unforgiving in terms of what you can't do, but use those limitations to squeeze out every last drop of what you can do and you'll have a great game.
  22. A couple more notes, with pics! After killing the giant wolf boss, my character sprite was stuck in the one leg visible position and glided across the screen until I took a screen shot of him doing that, then he reverted to normal movement. The armor respawned on the same screen I initially found it after I left and returned to the screen. I was unable to pick it up a second time, but I get the feeling it shouldn't do that. I was in the Dwarven Caverns and touched a dwarf. He instantly teleported into the wall and remained there until I left the screen.
  23. Been playing it for a bit. Right now it seems like after 10+ screens I always get to a screen (going left or right, love that you can go both ways) where the walking TV spawns right atop me and instantly kills me. One game I was doing really well, 25+ screens, and then whammo! instant TV guy and dead. I love the idea of going into buildings and finding stuff, power-ups (maybe?) or just stuff worth bonus points. Maybe the building interiors are where the tougher bad guys lurk protecting better trashure (see what I did there?). Your naked lady reminds me of Porky's, only yours looks like an actual naked lady! And don't sell yourself short. You've got a great start here. And all of the incredible programmers that hang around here started somewhere, just like you are. And best of all, they are generally really awesome people who are more than happy to help you get to their level! Really enjoying your start here, can't wait to see more!
